I think Torben should win a prize for continually posting crap that no one needs.

I dunno. This would look awesome on my office desk. Or for leaving behind in the meeting room…

I once scared the crap out of someone with one of those iguana toys that's fabric filled with sand. It's a matter of timing, expectations and distraction.

a total saving of 60c how can that be considered a bargain?

      • +1

would be nice if you have this on a desk and a sign that says "speak wisely" next to it.

  • People love these things at dress up parties.

  • Wonder if it would arrive in time for Halloween

Not putting my hand on that deal.. but website has other goodies to buy.

  • this will be awesome going through customs, better yet going through customs in person

  • customs?

I just don't get all this bad attitude from negative people on this site!

      • Let me remind you, we are Australian

      • I was semi-joking. I just hate how Australia can't help but adopt Halloween. Each year it infringes further and further into our culture. Then again maybe my hatred is irrational.

        • I reckon it is - an irrational hatred, i mean. Loved Halloween as a kid. Monsters, witches, ghosts - most kids adore that stuff; they always have. The idea that the only event in world culture which celebrates that part of the imagination, even if just at an aesthetic level (if that's all one takes from it), isn't somehow kosher because it's most vocal proponent is America, and America is insert whatever insult/hangup. Well, that is just sad imo.

I think people are mostly against the commercialisation of this Roman or Celtic (depending on how far you want to go back) festival. Even trick or treating is not an American invention.

It irritates people that Halloween has seemingly become another mostly American driven marketing opportunity to fill in time between Father's Day and Christmas. I remember being in China in October and seeing Pizza Hut pushing Halloween onto the locals who have absolutely no Halloween tradition. Regarding trick or treating, chocolate and other sweets are so cheap that children don't have to visit door to door begging for treats. There was a time when chocolate was a true luxury and we've seemingly carried over that tradition without updating it.

I used to leave the porch light on and hand out chocolate to the few children who would turn up, if only to keep up appearances in front of the neighbours. But I've changed my mind in recent years. Overall I'm thankful that Halloween hasn't quite caught on here despite the best annual efforts of local retailers. My porch light is now left off on 31 October and I don't answer the door. Some people may see that as mean and nasty, but it's my way of not encouraging even more trick or treating.

        • Against commercialisation; fair enough. Mind you commercialisation is pretty much inevitable for any and every event on the planet (which says more about capitalism than a particular event), so you'll find your list of tolerated events/festivities getting smaller and smaller year by year if that's the baseline.

But, at least it is justification beyond just disliking America and thus resenting Halloween entirely by association somehow.

Like i say, for me it's less about snacks and trick or treating - although don't mind that either - and more about the imagination side of it. Always loved that side of life (in movies, books, drawings, dress up), and if Halloween is an/the excuse once a year on offer - i'll take it. Just like i'll take Christmas and Easter to celebrate a whole bunch of values and aesthetically neat things from a whole different chest of drawers, even if my linking of them to Jesus or whatever is tenuous at best.

    • Next Australian to effect violence upon another Australian is well… just another bogan, I suppose.

  • good deal but one thing annoying me on your site is that the cost of the elder wand(Dumbledore) is less than that of Fleur or even Sirius. I would have thought that the most powerful wand in the HP universe would be at least on par or more expensive than the others?

    • +1

That's because no one wants to pay top dollar for a wand they know will eventually be snapped in half. ;)

      • fair enough, although that also makes Harry potter a flipping idiot.

  • +2

So when did Halloween become so common in Australia? Wasn't this an American event?

    • +6

nope….. very old English festival….. nicked by the Americans

    • Those hands look real.. and r good to slap people with

    • Always been common for people who get a kick out of the dark fantastical side of the imagination (unless you can think of another event to fill that role?) Same way as Christmas appeals to many who aren't Christians, really.

Can understand people being irritated by American spelling etc worming it's way in; don't really understand why something as novel and fun and distinct as Halloween, which isn't adequately replicated by anything else anywhere, being thrown out with the bath water. Getting rid of the world appeal of a festivity just because it's loudest proponents are yanks just seems pathological. A strange self-defeating bigotry really (albeit of a equally strangely pc kind).

Halloween in the Southern Hemisphere starts around April-May. It's a seasonal thing, start of Winter (when many people died from no food, cold and 'spirits'). Wiccan New Year.

    • Wiccans…pah

they'll steal anybody's ancient festivals and stick em in their calendar…. any excuse for a knees up methinks….

Mind you, the Christians nicked Yule…. so they're in good company

I want to get kitted up for the Brisbane Zombie Walk in two weeks.

    • Had an online chat to a representative, says it is two to four weeks with free shipping.

  • Does the hand come in different colours…I would fool no one with a white hand haha
