I regret buying a Hoselink, not necessary cheap despite claims that the hose doesn't break which is true, but there are faults with Hose link for eg, You can't fit other "normal" attachments, so you have to buy from Hoselink's selection which are quite expensive. The hose head that came with my set leaked when you switch to different spray modes in its first year of operation, even though it was well looked after. The other issue I found was that unless you pull it out in a particular manner, when it comes to recoiling the hose, it sometimes stops until you pull it out again and let the wounding mechanism readjust. Unless the hose recoils perfectly, the hose doesn't wound up nicely inside the case. Other negative - the shorter hose attachment that connects onto the garden tap also worn out faster than expected the conneccting head plastic shows crackling, hose discoloured. Of course, all of these can be replaced but you have to buy from Hoselink which as mentioned, the attachments are expensive. All this issue just so you don't get a hose that breaks due to the proprietary "unbreakable" technology. I don't think its worth it. If I have another choice, I would go instead for the European made Gardenia brand retractable hose reel.

I agree… Actually starting to get annoyed with my hoselink set up. Will eventually change them over to a more universal set up.

I just cut a short length of hose, and stick the hoselink connector to one side and standard connector to the other.

    • As bloom suggested, you can buy off-the-shelf attachment from Bunnings for connection to other equipment you have.

I am a fan of their standard connector design.

    • Do you empty the hose before/as you retract it? Most hose reels struggle if the hose still has water in it. Turn the tap off and pull the trigger so any water gets pushed out. Works every time for me.

And as above, get the cheap adapter if you want to use "normal" attachments.

I love all my hoselink stuff. They are great

  • needed something before EOFY.

    Why? Claiming tax on it?

    • +22

Maybe OP works from home and needs a hoselink to clean his desk and to wash down his computer if it gets a virus. Valid tax deduction

      • It would be an inventive way of requesting that with the ATO - but no - just purchasing for investment property, as I want to look after the tenants and give them a better quality of house and home to be in while maximising some good will and the 200 aud limit for replacement of the old hose.

I feel it adds value to the place and the tenants should get better use out of it too. Been happy with service of HL in the past when buying from them, so happy to purchase again.

Hate my hoselink. Yes it does break. Had mine for for 6 years. Reel broke after 4. Waste of $

  • thanks OP, got 1

  • Is the casing protected against UV?

    • +2

Yeah they are, they also sell covers to keep them looking fresh,….. because who doesn’t treat their hose reel like a bloody smartphone :P

  • Been looking for a hoselink special for a while. But with more bad reviews, are there alternatives ? Happy to pay if excellent quality.

    • Their products are excellent and their customer services are superior. I’ve been using the Hoselink hose reel over 3 years and have had no issue. I also own a few other Hoselink products and they are of high quality and no regret of buying their product at all.

    • Same situation as you however I am noticing a lot of negative experience from owners in the comments on deals for Hoselink. Maybe the Holman lithium ion battery powered one, so pull out manually with battery powered motor that pulls it in is an option. Would avoid the issue of the spring load mechanism being damaged which seems to be an issue for the cheaper and expensive one's. The hose is replaceable as well. https://youtu.be/EQBBTnG7_RQ

Don’t understand where all the complaints come from. If I had an issue with product Hoselink customer service instantly fixed it (though I said I don’t need replacement they sent a new product for free). I think because of their quality of service (and product) I became a big fan of their product and I just bought a new extendable brush that I didn’t think of buying thanks to this post with the additional10% off code.

I agree here, people are bitching because they bought a hose link 4-6 years ago and it broke.
Their quality is much better now, and their customer support is great. TBH if you buy a product and it lasts 4 years whats the problem.

the only down side is their custom connection. its really good and works well but you need to buy an adaptor to use generic products. but the adaptor is only $7.

IMO buy Australian support local businesses.

My personal experience with Hoselink is excellent. The build quality is just amazing. 4 years running like new.

    • Any day now then…

I have a couple 30m reels and a 15m reel and agree with some of the criticisms. Retracting is annoying at times and I’ve got a leak in the spray even with o rings firmly in place.

Having said that, everything else is much worse the reels look brand new despite being years old and copping full sun all day

    Damn these hoes be expensive

👍👍👍 Massive thumbs up for Aussie company!

  • I think I'll get the manual one since the automatic one is likely to have some issue down the track and you can replace the hose if there is some sort of leak
https://www.hoselink.com.au/products/new-metal-hose-reel-box… (was $265, now $238.50 (standard discount) or $214.65 with discount code applied at checkout).

  • Do like and have their products, but avoid the trigger sprayer, its terrible. Leaked after a year, and pricey to replace internals(W postage cost on-top).

    • What gun do you use?

  • How do these compare to say a Holman one from bunnings? My holman seems to be on its last legs and is not fully retracting after about 2 years. But I think I paid $49 (or maybe $79) for a 10m at bunnings on a good sale.

  • I had an aldi one for about 2 years, was fantastic loved it! But the case when chalky from UV then the reel mech jammed.. I was pretty upset as the hose was great quality!

Had the hoselink now for 12 months its much better I love the fittings which dont blow off, and the gardenia holmann were all around the same price also.
