I thought I was doing the right thing by buying Australian made / owned but the retractable hose reels last just long enough to be outside the warranty period and the extra hose fittings got brittle and broke down really quickly.

My Aldi retractable hose is in direct North sun and besides the case being faded, it still retracts and operates fine after 3.5yrs
Can of spray paint and it will look brand new!
UV clear coat when new.
Mine has got afternoon sun for over 6 months, it's still good. I might try the clearcoat also but for 14 bucks I guess you could put that to the next unit. I picked up the SCA one later for 15 bucks so maybe not so worth it.

Purchased two last year, neither lasted 3 months. Receipts meant they refunded with no dramas. Replaced with these :- https://www.delrico.com.au/ which cost more but work perfectly.

Yes, but my neighbour has one he bought with his house a decade ago that's still working. This Aldi one lasted 3 months before the retracting mechanism failed. Sometimes it's worth spending more.

Bought a hoselock 25m from Bunnings and returned after 2 weeks , absolute crap , just bought another hoselink which are a lot dearer but last forever

Complete newbie here - is Aldi retractable hose on par with Hoselock or Hoselink, or is it more close to the Holman from Bunnings?

Holman, my experience is that cheap auto retractable hoses are rarely worth the cost. Expensive ones work better but can still be a PITA. A decent hose with a hose hanger is almost as fast, has a whole lot less to go wrong and costs a lot less.
My Aldi one works better than my Hoselink one, but the Aldi one is faded :/

How much was it normally?
I bought and used it yesterday. It is an okay quality. Hose feels like it is a good quality, but casing is cheap plastic. I have already mounted it on the wall, see how long it lasts for price of $50. Water flow pressure is not that great through this retractable hose, I am not sure why.
$19.99 for the soil rake/spreader is pretty good. I might head in store & see the quality. At that price I'd just get one.
