$10 for an adaptor? I would look for it on eBay unless you definitely need a window logo on it.

    • +34

The difference is, this should work reliably.

      • -1

It's iffy… I bought 3 at $1.6/per and 2 of them have worked for over 2 years now. 1 of them on a daily basis

Maybe just buy a few eBay ones if you can wait

        • you mean the ebay ones or this one

      • I bought a five pack of USB A to USB C adaptors on eBay for $12 delivered back in 2016 my MacBook Pro, still using them all today.

    • +2

Don't forget to factor in wait time, most of the cheap adapters on EBay are dropped shipped. Also this would more reliable than a third party item.

    • I bought a cheap adapter on ebay.. used it for a week and it just ceased to work

    • +1

eBay ones are crap. Brought one and it corrupted my USB after a few uses.

      • woah wait what

        • +1

Yup. same thing happened with my $2 SD card reader. Not surprising though. The device probably had a loose cable or some blew which caused a short, killing the device.

          • @No Username: damn i will stop using mine now.

This seem like a better deal but i woodier if they r made in the same factory

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: I've also used this in the past: https://www.amazon.com.au/Rankie-Adapter-Hi-Speed-2-Pack-Bla…

No issues with it so far. But have not used it everyday. Reviews are good and it is $15 for two if you are looking for a spare. Would still choose the Microsoft one though. Since they are a reputable brand and would not want to loose that.

              • @No Username: true will go with the microsoft one. but will keep that in mind

            • @[Deactivated]: I wouldn't worry about it mate. USB c to USB A adapter is a passive device.

There are no active electronics, it's just some wires between two connectors.

A bad one is just as risky as wobbling the USB in a port. Not very.

              Most are good too

              • @Boioioioi: BTW, one of my usb port is wobbly when plug in a usb device, is that bad, does it mean like it will break off

        • Some USB devices (drives, etc.) install messed up drivers too

          • +1

@JPerez: Had this happened to me too but not a driver issue something more severe. Brought a cheap gaming mouse for $12 on Ali Express and turns out it had a virus loaded on it. The mouse still functioned though. The virus itself wasn't destructive but more annoying. It was basically un removable adware. The funny thing is that it would make your PC crash if you attempted to search for malware bytes. From that day on I never brought anything created by a Chinese company due to them installing key loggers and backdoors.

            • @No Username: wait what did i just read, thats a thing.
I would assume it is a keylogger

Note to self, never buy peripherals from chinese companies or from china.

Poor people on JobSeeker making wise decisions, well done sir!

  • Experiencing issues on Checkout: "Sorry, we are unable to check store stock at the moment."

    • I had issues getting the website to load just to get a link for the pens.

  • If you dont mind waiting a month or so, ebay has plenty for less than $2.

I think this is the best price for local ones

  • I need the opposite of this adapter - USB-A to USB-C (USB 3.1) for my Oculus Quest - any suggestions?

  • +1

Thanks for this! I'm slowly buying bits and bobs for my upcoming new Surface Laptop 3 I intend to get next month, so grabbed a USB-C to USB-A adaptor. From 4 USB-A slots on my current laptop to only one, but now I can have two!

    • +1

? There's currently 20% off during eofy, might be better price than next month though? Or FY related?

      • Buying it on the last day of the 20% sale next month i.e. 5th :)

        • +2

I got it last week. Be careful with the stock. I was looking for i7 model and it went out of stock in the store near my home.

          • @fiveferrari: I've got a car and JB Hi-Fi, HN, The Good Guys and Microsoft all have the 15" Ryzen 7 16GB/512GB model in stock; worst case scenario I'll just buy it online from Microsoft (I prefer to buy in person)

You should try one of the USB-c hubs with a HDMI out. my current laptop has 3 usb-c only and the touchpad is broken. I use a usb-c hub to connect a mouse.

      • I have a bluetooth mouse, so this was more for if I connect an optical drive and I also need a USB stick plugged in as an example. Was tempted to get a USB-C to HDMI one as well, but I didn't think I needed it

Purchased a triple mini-display port to VGA/HDMI/DVI adapter off Amazon for $15 last year and it works perfectly.

  • Would these work with a MacBook that only has USB-C ports?

    In particular - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/microsoft-surface-usb-c-to-et…

    • +1

      Don't see why not.

    • Can confirm that it works out of the box on my 16" Pro (Ethernet and USB 3).

  • -1

keep in mind it’s usb 3.0 (not 3.1 gen 2). Stating as someone would expect 10Gb/s after conversion.

  • I think I saw this at Daiso over the weekend - no idea if it's USB 3.0 capable though.

The Microsoft Surface Dial is a steal. If only it was in stock near me.

    • Wagga Wagga and Penrith were the nearest ones for me SMH

    • I am unfortunately a Surface fanboi, I watched the video for the Dial and it gave no insight into what it could actually be used for. Pottery maybe? ;-)

Any tips on how it would be useful?

      • +1

I never got use to using a drawing tablet. So using something small like this is perfect for me since all I mostly do is panning and zooming in. My plan is to use Adobe AI and XD without the keyboard if I had this.

Pottery could be good since it would allow for more fluid navigation and viewing of your model.

        • +1

OK now… so where are there two in stock? Haha.

  • +1

Would the adaptor allows to convert a USB 3.0 docking station to a usb-C one? Wouldn't charge the laptop though?

  • Bought one from ebay for $3.50 .. so not much of a deal if you ask me. For all these adapters and converters I simply use ebay.

Update - I am referring to USB-C to USB 3.0/1 adapter.

  • Bought mine frkm Daiso for $2.8 and is still working. Just FYI.

  • A USB C OTG device may be better for phones?

  • -1

What a rippppp offf , i bought rugged USB-C to USB 3.0/1 cable for less than 5$ using it for past 2 years….looool

no way it's a deal , more of a 80% profit rather than 2500% to me!

  • Thanks OP! Also managed to grab an 87W Apple Type-C adapter for $20 (looked like a store specific clearance at Midland).

    • lucky you, i also scored usbc charger but for $45…(Mod: do not solicit votes)

  • Anyone got a ready to collect e-mail yet? My item's since gone out of stock at my local GG so not sure whether it's been cancelled and I should try another store, or if this is due to COVID-19 (in which if it is, they should take away the 2 hour Click and Collect thing on their page)

Edit: Yay, ready to collect! Hopefully it's not a returned item, being the last one in stock …

    • +1

The good guys are slow in terms of click and collect. Last time I ordered off them on a weekday during business hours it took them 2 days to send a notification even though store had stock

  • -4

I thought this was ozbargain. Why pay $10 for a $3 adapter, despite them starting life at $30.

  • Was just about to buy the GbE-USB but noticed that there's almost no stock in VIC; anyone had success with price matching via JB?

  • Thanks OP! Been waiting for these to come down in price… picked up the usb and usbc nics… also snagged a 87w apple usbc charger for $45 store specific clearance.
