This is the 2.5 inch model

I'll be incorporating that into my pillow talk.

    • Who needs a 3.5 inch model anyway.

      • +1

        I'm taking notes.

      • The OP might be thinking of the M2 model?

        • Not enough girth

    • Is your pillow one of those silicone models, with a mouth so it can talk back to you?

    1TB also not bad $179 + cashback

$145 even better! wish umart would price match.

  • Will Amazon price match?

    • +1

      No cash back from Amazon

      • +1

Amazon do not price match but I believe eBay would as MSY is on their approved retailers list.

        • Does MSY need to have stock at the time of request for a price match? If the item is purchased on ebay right now, and price match is requested tomorrow but MSY is out of stock tomorrow then will ebay decline the price match?

        • how does ebay price match?

        • I believe eBay don't price match. Instead after purchase, you can try claim the difference within 24 hrs and they'll credit you a voucher to use on eBay.

          • @chyawala: What happens if within that period the the item goes out of stock? No voucher?

  • Grabbed one.

I bought a Tesla the other day, didn't need it but good to buy.

    • +6

Why would you buy it if you don't need it?

      • Tesla or SSD?

      • +1

        Because OzBargain.

      • -1

You haven't been on OzBargain long have you?

  • How do you redeem?

    • +1

Link is literally in the post…

E: That said someone broke the link. Add the cashback bit to the end.

      https://www.samsung.com/au/offer/ssd-eofy-cashback/

    • +1

Follow the cashback link above. Pretty straightforward. You will need the SSD itself as the form needs the serial number off the drive itself. It's not the one on the packaging etc.

      • +1

Would be helpful if you removed the line in the cashback link to fix the link.

        • Fixed

    • So you make a redemption account here? https://samsung-redemption.com/au/login

  • I'm planning to build a PC in the near future but not at the moment. Would it be a wise move to buy this SSD now to use for later? Or should I wait for better deals/better parts?

    • +1

For almost all cases, there is no value benefit in going NVMe vs SATA; its just so much better than HDD's. Unless youre looking to minimize size by putting in a m.2, I'd just grab this and be done with it.

      • Thanks, not sure what the diff bn NVMe and SATA is, but yeah I'm planning to build with using a SSD instead of a HDD.

        • +2

NVMe typically costs more, but if you dont know the difference, this SATA is plenty for your needs.

      • +4

        Thats not true at all.
Theres no noticeable PERFORMANCE benefit, but its 2 less cables you have to install in the build, and the NVMe is a lot easier to install than drives in most cases. Its a BIG difference in ease of building.

        • +1

aside from these recent good deals there's been almost no cost difference either lately.

if your board is NVME capable and if you can get a decent NVME drive at a similar cost to a sata, I'd take the NVME for the reasons you listed also.

        • Hmm is it such a big difference for the ease of building that it's worth the price disparity?

      • The true reasoning behind this is that SSDs were a huge jump over hard drives, not because of their sequential speeds, but their near instant access times. With a hard drive you have to wait for the platter to come around, with an SSD it directly accesses the NAND flash quick snap.

      • +1

I don't doubt that for normal home builds but NVME drives can give you a lot more performance than a sata SSD in one area if you deal with a lot of data.

It's not uncommon to be looking at 500-600Mbyte/sec from a sata SSD (compared to 150Mbyte/sec from a normal disk) but an NVME drive will get above 1 to 1.5Gbyte/sec.

We use NVME drives when building high end workstations to deal with research data.

Not much point in going NVME unless you've built a whole system around your IO needs.. which is why I'd agree with you for simply using sata at home in most cases..

    • Personally I've never seen this driver cheaper. It is frequently reviewed as one of the best SSDs on the market. Depending on your build you may want a different form factor of the same drive so in that case it's up to you.

      • Ok, well I'm planning to have a build with a standard size case, nothing of the ITX/mini variant. So would the form factor of this samsung SSD would be fine?

        • Yes. You may need 2.5 to 3.5 bracket depending on your case. Easily found online or on MSY.

Good deal OP (upvoted the deal) - however MSY's service / warranty is abysmal - tempted but how I can spend money again with these guys who have been fined by ACCC?

    • Fair point. I've never had an issue with the them but will admit I'm hoping Computer Alliance update their pricing.

    • The arsehole answer is add to cart then pay. :p

From Samsung SSD EOFY Cashback Terms and Conditions (T&Cs)

Maximum Eligible Claims per Participating Product purchased: One (1)

Maximum number of Gifts per household: Three (3)

    • So I can claim 1x1TB and 1x500GB SSD both?

      • +1

        Looks like it.

  • Would you recommend this for use in an external enclosure to use as a portable hard drive?

  • Got the 1TB, thanks OP.

  • copped the 500gb variant, anyone recommend a good value M.2 drive for a new build?

    • WD SN550 is a good one for NVMe, but the WD Blue is usually only $85 (vs $110) and is SATA but still M.2.

  • Aw, I've already bought a crucial.

  • Any special for for the 1TB?

  • would this work in a laptop (i.e. Gigabyte Aero 15?)

  • Bought from MSY because BudgetPC have Visa & MasterCard : 1.5% Surcharge

    • Yeah they do have a a cc charge , only one without is eftpos savings

Why do MSY need my age and gender to sell me a SSD?

    • +3

      A/S/L??

    • +4

Good question, but I think you can just leave it blank?

If we complained to OAIC they will probably get a slap on the wrist.

    • I think it might be for ID purposes on pick up

  • Does eBay price guarantee match these? I got some gift cards to use so prefer eBay.

    • +1

Yes, msy is on the approved seller list.

      • Thanks mate. Purchased from eBay, a sweet deal.

        • Do you have the link for their ebay page?

          • +1

@Alaken: Just buy from a random eBay seller (Computer Alliance in my case), and chat with the eBay service team.

  • MSY seems not open on Sunday anymore, have to pickup on Monday

  • Dumb question - is this an internal or external SSD? I want to replace one in my E470.

  • Do you think it's worth upgrading my Lenovo X1 Gen 6 (2018) from 128gb to 500gb before selling it? I've just bought a Gen 7 so am readying it. It's maybe not worth the hassle and better to just say that it's upgradable?
