    Honest question - what's the difference between having this mat and wearing comfy shoes? Don't they provide cushioning either way? Or is this just double cushioning?

      Even the comfiest of shoes can get uncomfortable after hours of standing. The extra layer of cushioning allows you to stand longer and make the most of your sit/stand desk.

      I use something similar sometimes at work, 'princess mats' we call them. It makes a big difference when you're standing for 6 hours+ in the same spot.

        But in all seriousness, I use a memory foam mat, in addition to gel sole shoes. Although the shoes themselves are extremely comfortable for general walking/standing, I find the mat an added bonus. Maybe it's just a placebo effect?

          Can't sit down in an operating room =(. I wear ultraboosts most days, they're great by themselves but when someone offers me a princess mat, I don't turn it down.

      Fundamentals = Australian made, plastic, adjusts with spacer blocks
      Fluteline = New Zealand made, metal, adjusts with screw legs

    Although I have not tried the anti-fatigue mats at Officeworks or elsewhere to compare, I found these work remarkably well:
    Kmart Sports Cushion $2 each
    The effects are most noticeable when you take off your house slippers or shoes, which is obviously fine when you're working from home.
    Also, I found 2 layers are better than one, so I taped 2 of them together and stacked one pair on top of the other. Total cost = $8!
    I can't comment on longevity of these as I've only started to use them.
    I used this for the tape (1 length per side):
    Waterproof Cloth Tape

    I also have a good quality office chair but I found this made a significant difference with prolonged sitting:

      Yes, in fact I was using it earlier tonight for that purpose.
      Kmart's website describes it as a "multi-purpose sports cushion that can be used as a kneeling pad, grandstand seat or back cushion."
      Once again, 2 layers are better than one WRT kneeling - I just tried it.

      Yes unfortunately they do occasionally come back with some residue left over from the manufacturing process. A quick clean with some spray and wipe should fix this up.
