Apparently they are $65 @ Woolworths if you can find any stock. But locked to Telstra.

I would wait for a deal on the Samsung Galaxy A20.

Wonder when the next A20 deal will come along. Seems to have died down. I guess wont be one for awhile as I think the last sale was due to a21 being released.

I bought a pair, any particular questions?

I'm a bit of an audiophile so sound quality is the most important thing to me, and they deliver appropriate performance for the price I think. Mid-bass is a bit loose, but otherwise somewhat balanced sound signature and decently detailed. $40 for them being a bluetooth set with available at a supermarket is decent IMO. They're about $45 on Amazon delivered from US so it's not a big saving, just convenient.

      • Alright appreciate this. So appropriate performance but nothing amazing? I will have to consider if I want to buy.

        • +1

I should be clear, it's all subjective. There's a lot of great value products that sound good coming from the world of Chi-Fi, and I base the value off of the experiences I've had with many of those sets under the $50 mark. I don't have experience with other exclusively wireless sets so I can't compare to those, but comparing to wired sets like the KZ series I think the package of the Sonys holds up in value.

They're actually rather similar in sound to another classic "value find" that punched well above its price that I owned, the Sony MH1C that was bundled with some Sony Xperia phones but could be found on its own in bulk packaging for $25 or less. Sony put good effort into them and it was a surprise that something actually good was being bundled with phones at the time.
Those broke years ago so I can't directly compare but from memory, I think the WI-C310 might be a little better overall. So that's pretty good.

The main attraction is the better sound signature than some of the Chi-Fi options in that it's not harsh in the high end and not overly recessed in the mids. It's rather smooth with some bass emphasis. And since my first comment, the mid-bass has settled down as they break in. Since that was the only real flaw I saw for the price, I think it's fair to say they're definitely a good buy at $40. I imagine the average person would be very happy with the sound quality unless they're just after massive bass. Even compared to my higher end gear they're still plenty good enough.

So, when I say "appropriate performance", I view that as yes, they are indeed worth $40 considering what other wired value options available online offer from past experience (or in other words, on a very value oriented scale). Contrast that to the $109 retail at HN, JB etc for these - I'm sure you can do better for that money elsewhere. I don't know how other $40 wireless sets online compare and I would bet you can get similar value online if you do enough research, but there's a lot of competition to sift through.

Aside all that there's the things like the good Sony hybrid eartips they come with, USB-C charging, good battery life, and Aldi returns if they break in the 12mo warranty.
