Hi all,

I have been waiting for a good deal to come up on the new Thinkpad T models with the Ryzen 3000 series chips. Seems like a good opportunity at the moment with 30% off

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U - normal $1,899.00, now $1,329.30 with code (INTRO) (30% off)

AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 4750U - normal $2,199.00, now $1,539.30 with code (INTRO) (30% off)

+Bonus 5% discount when spending over $2200 at final checkout with configuration extras and warranty.

Website states "ships with 6-9 business days" and then roughly 2-3 weeks to Australia.

IMHO - 16GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200, Low Power IPS 400nits Anti-glare screen and as much warranty as you can afford :)

Happy shopping for all those Thinkpad fans old and new alike..

You can get a fully decked out Ryzen thinkpad X13 for <$2k atm. I'd probably get that.

      • Definitely, but the $200 to bring you from 16GB to 32GB of RAM is questionable; would personally select 16GB for regular use.

  • Where to get details on the screen options I.e if they are 100% srgb ntsc etc. I see three options low nit and a touch ips with and low power high nits. But how do we find out what is the srgb rating in these. Someone mentioned before but not sure how they got those details.

  • looking at my T480s, I may wait for more discount / Intel chip later this year. rumor says intel will increase their cores and threads in coming CPU, https://www.tomshardware.com/news/rumor-next-generation-inte…

    • That's Rocketlake for desktop CPU's. Also it's the opposite, Intel already has 10 cores on Cometlake but apparently they can't fit 10 Rocket lake cores on their new chip so they're decreasing thread and core counts.

For mobile nothing is changing, Tiger lake is 4C/8T. But they will be ~20% faster cores

It look likes the rumour you shared relates to desktop. The TDP is 125w, too much heat generated for a laptop. Additionally it's on 14nm, and Intel is exhausting what they can get out of that architecture. It relates more to core parking where they are trying to get more threads out of less cores. The AMD CPUs in these laptops are 15w TDP with up to 8 cores and 12 threads.

I wouldn't buy this one, the screen has 45% NTSC colour gamut on the 250 and 300 nits screens (but 72% for the other screens) [source below]

Instead, I'll be buying the new Lenovo X13 (AMD) ($1260+), which has the same specs but with a 72% NTSC screen (13.3" FHD IPS).

    • no extra memory slot. Batt life not as long. other than that good machine too.

      • Agreed. But with the 65W RapidCharge (80% in an hour), the battery life of both machines (~6 hours realistically) is satisfactory for most people's uses. Also, the memory is 3200 MHz (as opposed to the artificially-limited 2666 MHz for all the Intel laptops) so the absence of dual channel memory is not awful.

I wouldn't be so sure about the absence of dual-channel memory. Plenty said the same about the X395 but it turned out to have two channels in use. For me, I thought the mass reduction from the smaller size is a greater benefit than the increased viewing area - just another thought for those who actually need to move these computers around.

@octagonalman: yep. lots of laptop review sites say its dual channel for the X13. I also have preference for 13" machines being quite conveniently mobile and used to travel os most time of the year. Rapid charge feature has been a very handy thing for me also.

  • Could this machine run the occasionally, I am working away, after work Dota2 in my hotel room?

    • +1

Yes, I had the T490 which is the previous model and ran Dota2 fine on lowest video settings perfectly fine. It can also probably can scale up a little more as these laptops are used for 3D modelling in my work place.

  • Can i ask for opinion between this item or dell inspiron for 1400??
