    It's not about ray-tracing. It's all about DLSS 2.0!

I'd love to see these go down to $300 again. Great 1080p GPU.

    • Except barely any games support it.

      • Except more and more games are starting to

        • I thought it was only Control isn't it?

          • +2

            @Void: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/tags/?tag=nvidia-dlss

Bright Memory, Wolfenstein: Young Blood, Mechwarrior 5, Control, Minecraft RTX, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding.

In terms of implementation, it's now a generalised model that requires some patching over the top of existing TAA hooks in the game engine, so expect pretty much every game engine in active development to deploy it.

      • Well, game support can only get getter with time right?

I think DLSS 2.0 is the real deal and has been proven in games like Control and Wolfenstein. Cyberpunk 2077 announces support for DLSS 2.0 really causes a stir in gamer communities, and I'm prepare to throw hundreds of hours into it once it's released. Hopefully game developers see the huge potential in the tech and more will adopt the features.

    • Noob question here. Does the 1660 super support dlss 2.0?

      • Nope, only the RTX cards can do DLSS, so cheapest option is the 2060.

    at such low price!

    $15 off MSRP.

    • +2

How much over the MSRP have these been over the past 3 months?

        • +1

Did you actually look at the prices/dates in there?

It was a deal when it was $30 more than this in April.

          • -4

@freefall101: And the rest was the same or cheaper than this price, including last month.

            • @jasswolf: Yes, this is a repeat of a very popular deal. Thus why it's a bargain. There are none cheaper in the past 3 months. There are three more expensive though that were still popular.

Any cheaper deals were February or earlier. Unless you have a cure for COVID-19 you've been holding onto, those prices aren't going to happen again.

People seem to forgot about the demand supply curve during this covid era. Supply was so reduced in key times that it's likely there won't be enough latent supply to discount once these new cards come out.

That's not even including the increased demand, and the increased transport costs involved in getting stock to Australia.

Probably NOT best to assume there is going to be rock bottom prices on the release of the next gen. In fact these compounding issues may lead to next gen being priced higher than anticipated.

Probably NOT best to assume there is going to be rock bottom prices on the release of the next gen. In fact these compounding issues may lead to next gen being priced higher than anticipated.

Prices may not drop, but now that supply chains are back up and running sufficiently, this has more to do with the spike in demand and all of these cards going EoL (hence this final game bundle promo). Turing is far more tightly controlled than Pascal was at the same point, where it seems Turing was perhaps held back from release for a couple of months due to the crypto crash.

Next-gen chip prices will be slightly higher, but everything else in the bill of materials should be much cheaper than at Turing launch, so I would expect card MSRPs to be about the same as current MSRPs, if not slightly less.

A US $275 MSRP for an RTX 3060 is not outside the realm of possibilities.

  • People are saying the next Gen of equipment should be coming out this Summer/Fall in USA?
If so i'm guessing all the older products will have a price slash by Black Friday sales?
    What do you all think?

    • +1

The low to mid range cards don't come out till well after, and they just generally phase things out, don't expect absurd prices.

      • +1

Plus even Black Friday is 4 months away…

        • i guess i'm being too optimistic lol

      • There have been rumours of the rtx 3060/3050 or equivalents releasing earlier than expected due to pressure from AMD. Of course it’s all speculation.

    • Likely August launch, September release, probably for RTX 3080. Unclear beyond that.

An equivalently-priced card would likely be January-February, but the 3060 may not be a huge leap from here ($400-$500), and may be out sooner (late October, early November to compete with consoles), but the rumours aren't exactly pointing towards that right now either.

Honestly, if you have a working graphics card, I'd still try and wait.

Purchased this last round, it's been smashing Witcher 3 1440p at ultra settings in my HTPC.
    Worth the price.

  • Thanks OP, got one

  • Great card , but i got a no signal when windows boots when nvidia drivers are installed issue, and wasnt able to resolve it.
had to go back to the old gtx 680 which is rock solid.

  • Great card!

But the 'Asus GeForce GTX 1660 Super Phoenix OC 6GB' has only a single large fan

    • XLR8 or Galax?

      • The PNY XLR8 looks better (design) to me personally.

Also looks like the XLR8 is factory overclocked?

This looks like a great deal. Would've bought this if I didn't buy the 2060 from the deal the other day. Hoping it arrives this week!

      • As Skysky said the XLR8 is overclocked which is the one I would go for plus from my experience Mwave is a lot easier to deal with ie warranty returns

      • PNY has longer warranty, higher stock boost clock and maybe a larger heatsink. Should be the better choice of the two.

    • +1

Thanks for posting this. I was already on checkout with Galax when I saw your post. Spend some time researching the PNY card and I have to say I like it better:

      Pros:
      - boost 50Mhz higher
      - heat sink is bigger
      - has more holes in the bracket and compared to Galax there is clear path to heat sink. Galax has side of the fan obstructing the air vents completely.

      Cons:
      - Slightly longer card, where the PCB itself is much shorter but heat sink and fan overhangs
      - no back plate

      • No worries

      • No backplate is better than a shit one, my MSI MECH's traps heat and taking it off will reduce like 5-10c.

    • They've bumped it up to 399

      • Was 349 yesterday morning makes sense though as it was only temporary pricing as it was on sale

Got this card, works well for daily ozbargain use

    • What are the noise levels from the fans?

      • +2

sounds like a fan but you can barely hear it

  • I currently have i7 6700K, 16gb ram and a GTX 750 Ti.

Should i get this deal or this instead?

    https://www.mwave.com.au/product/pny-geforce-rtx-2060-super-…

Is this worth the extra cost?

    • +1

might be wise to hold off for a year or two to see how raytracing/dlss turn out with the release of PS5, 1660 is great for now but this might be like one of those dx 10 -> dx11 moments 10 years ago, they start using some new standard and your card doesn't support it and suddenly for new titles your performance gets gimped or you can't play at all.

2060 super is a decent option but looks pretty expensive to me, in the mean time best perf/$ is still one of these: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/514997

    • From a 750ti, even a used/refurbished gtx 970 or rx570 will already double your fps for around $150. If you are not planning to play shooters/racers, then just go with this one. Go with 2060s if you want to overkill and 'future proof' (though the upcoming 3xx series put this proofing in doubt).

    "low price"

jensen huang slowly bumps up the price every new gen and soon a mid range for $1000 will be considered low price.

  • Ahhh $349 the pre COVID price. I got lucky when my GTX 680 stopped and I got the MSi 1660 Super Gaming X for $389 at Umart during February.

  • I'm looking for a laptop with something similar in it that will play battlefield 1 on decent settings and can plug into my 4k TV (even if it can't game at 4k) to game and watch movies, preferably something quiet or something that I could attach external quiet cooling pad to. Anyone got any recommendations?

  • I see this card available @centrecom for $329 and free shipping. But I'm not allowed to post this deal as L plater

    • +1

i dont think thats the super version; is this what you are referring to? https://www.centrecom.com.au/galax-geforce-gtx-1660-1-click-…

      • You are right, so confusing does the box looks the same for both cards?
Why i can't delete or edit my comment?

        • Nvidia naming schemes for their cards are really confusing. 1660 Super is basically on par with a 1660 Ti too.

  • I've owned this card for about 5 months now. Same brand and model/make. It runs any game I throw at it Ultra 1080p very easily. I often say it is a GTX 1070 but less power used, quieter, and 2GB less VRAM but the VRAM is faster GDDD6. Its a really good card. If you ever see it under $320, its a big deal to me. I got mine from Umart for $349 before the virus affecting prices. I can vouch for it.

    • How fast do the fans spin and what are the temps under load? Unigine Valley is a good test, Furmark will just melt the card more than any game ever would.
