Great price on the Carman's protein bars, especially after subscribe and save discount. Also priced the same are the Greek Style Yoghurt & Berry and the Salted Dark Choc & Almond.

        You can exercise all you want but you’re only going to lose weight and gain some muscle tone if you're not eating right, you need the right nutrition and intake as well if you’re “trying to get jacked”.

          Dieting is for losing weight. Exercising actually doesn't make you lose weight.
          Weight-lifting is for making muscle. You cannot gain mass because of your diet.

          Layman's terms:
          - You can't out-lift a bad diet.
          - You can't eat-up for strength.

          You can focus on one of these habits, or the other, or both. You will see results. If you don't, most likely that you aren't putting enough effort in. The people who don't see meaningful results are those that have genetic deficiencies, and that is a very small niche (<1%)… yet, even those people can correct those deficiencies by consulting with their doctor and finding a solution.

          • @Kangal: Dunno about that, most people that go to the gym regularly and are what you’d call “jacked” usually have a diet that focuses on eating well, increasing caloric intake and specifically increasing intake of protein, because without those things you’re not going to build muscles working out.

            @Kangal: Resistance training (with weights) does make you lose weight, if the intensity is where it needs to be. The heart rate should be well above resting for the 30-60mins session, again if not, the intent is poor, no results will be gained. Unless you're forever doing bicep curls and shoulders that is…

            More muscle mass on the frame allows your body to expend energy easier when resting.

            Everyone's metabolism is different, but anyone working hard with weights needs calories in order to build muscle. Those with fast metabolisms can eat more carbs than those who don't. Everyone needs to understand their body in this regard, or you'll just beat your head against a wall. Intermittent fasting is a great solution for many.

            These bars are good IMO. Use them instead of the a typical sugar / salty treat. Protein powder is pointless if you're eating properly.

            @Kangal: Exercising burns calories, you're wrong.
            Eating excess calories is essential for gaining mass..
            Hard gainers need to eat more, simple.

              There are "Hard Gainers" but as I touched upon this, it is actually a minority. This is a subset of people with abnormal metabolism, or muscle synthesis, or hormonal balance. For them, new tactics need to be employed, but done so Scientifically, after visiting your doctor and gaining data through some tests.

              New studies are finding a little excess calories can help disturb your metabolic system, so that your body "changes modes" in a sense. But beyond that, it will lead your body to later simply normalising to the new caloric intake, and you then start fat production again. So no, exercising doesn't burn calories. Not in the way you think. A Big Mac has 250 calories (~1100KJ), which means an average of 2hr brisk exercise. If you're an Olympic-level athlete, the scales are different, and your morning exercise will burn a lot of calories.

              Many people out there who think they are Hard-Gainers, they just aren't. They're probably not putting in as much effort as they thought they did, because they haven't setup the proper conditions for success (good schedule, gym member, personal trainer, tracking). Most of these people think it is impossible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time (ergo Body Composition). If you follow "experts" advice religiously, that is to say, with all emotion and no backed evidence, you're not very likely to succeed. And there's a crap load of it in this Diet/Exercise Industry. Instead, start from a base of reality, and use scientifically backed routines to do achieve your goals. You can't outrun a bad diet.

            • @Mrgreenz: yes, a lot of misinformation here. Exercising definitely burns calories and then it burns more calories for the next 24 hours as well with an increased metabolic factor due to the exercising and again it also burns more calories long term due to the break down and rebuild of muscle and having more muscle in your body equates to a higher daily / overall calorie usage for maintenance.

              But does it make as big a difference for weight loss as a good diet , no it doesnt, a diet can make more of a difference since at the end of the day its all about calories. But to say exercise doesnt help lose weight or does not burn calories is wrong.

              There are Hard gainers and then there are hard gainers, I was skinny most of my teen life, 50kgs at 21 (started with dumbell weights when i was a teen, moved to full weight exercises after 21). I had to end up force feeding myself as well as working out a lot and taking bulk protein weight gainers. and over the years i managed to get my weight up a lot. Also the older i got the easier it was to put on weight which is not a good thing now. But i had friends who could put on weight and muscle a lot easier than me and i wouldnt say i am the extreme hard gainer as there are some people i know who have tried everything and still struggle.

      These are a great snack to replace chips or chocolate. This does NOT replace your shakes.

    • You will have to look at the protein grams per serving size on the nutritional data image.

      Each muesli bar combination varies in the protein amount.

      Also be mindful of the saturated fats and carb content.

      Nuts are generally low GI.

      Ideally you will have 25-40 grams of protein per meal, so you'll have to add extra protein sources (if you're planning one just eating one bar per meal)

      Are you planning on going on a lean diet or a bulk diet?

  • Yeesh, those ingredients (Soy, sugar in various forms, etc.) - I'm sure they taste very nice though lol

    One thing I don't like with a child that has peanut allergy but none of them mention peanuts in the name (even though it's often the first ingredient). I'm also not 100% if you can recycle the wrappers at the supermarket with soft plastics.

    • But I have always thought they are the best muesli bar out there as well.

    • Surely if something says "nut butter" on the front of the packaging it would arouse suspicion to a peanut allergy sufferer that peanut may be present.

      And a look at the ingredients may be required.

    do they really have to put so much sugar in them? The fat being higher than protein, is that a good thing? Even though they are "good" fat from nuts? Asking for a friend who wants to bulk and jack up.
