The screen is really good but the let down in this configuration is the 520M GFX card. If it was better, I would have gotten it

Good deal and specs. But 3.2 kg in a back pack is a back breaker.

You don't buy a 17" laptop to carry around regularly.

  • The G53 is far better for a gaming device, with a better gfx card and higher screen res http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…

    I'd definitely be into that one if I didn't already have a G73 :)

It's also $500 more, so not as good a bargain IMO.

        OR, it's $1100 saving vs a $400 saving so it's a WAY better bargain…

        • What the RRP is for the most part is irrelevant. You're paying over 50% more for a smaller screen, faster GPU and higher res. Note that that GPU still wouldn't be capable of playing most new games at 1080p with full details, so as a gaming laptop that res isn't particularly useful.

Not everyone wants or needs a gaming laptop, this is more suited to the multimedia desktop replacement imo

        • Yeah I'd probably agree figarow. If you want a high res laptop for photo editing or something then it'd actually be fairly good with the 1080p res. I was just saying I don't think it's not a good value gaming laptop as casey2 was suggesting.

      • G53 is rrp @ $2400 and usually selling for ~$1800. This is 1st time I see it below $1500, so it's a pretty good deal. (But somehow G53 from COTD only have 1yr warranty rather than 3yrs usually come with ASUS G series.)

  • the 13.3" asus is not bad

  • if you have time, check out the specs on this deal
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55055
it's expired by the seller said they would repost if they get to 100 positive hits, was at 59 when the deal expired, 8 more needed.

    • Against the rules of ozbargain to ask for votes (for them, not you)

  • nothing to see here - move along folks
