    • same here. Bought 7 days ago when cashback rate was $40
Didn't track, used private window and no adblock like I always do. Lodged a claim today. First time had to claim a missing CB

Anyone have any bad experience with slow speed with express? I've gone through the information guides, changed the settings and still have problems. My subscription ends next February - will not be renewing for a premium service which is so slow it's almost unusable.

I would note I'm using mostly for international Netflix.

    • Yes, I have been trialing this service for a week now and have been disappointed with the speeds when streaming Netflix. Got onto live support who said 'just try different servers' which does help a bit but it's annoying. I wonder what the issue is?

In light of new CCP National Security Law in Hong Kong, I would be wary of using ExpressVPN

In summary, they're legally registered in the British Virgin Islands. However, the owners and physical HQ are located in Hong Kong, linked through multiple layers of evidence.

It is worth pointing out that they've had a fairly good track record and have been shown to not keep logs, which is expected of a good VPN.

That being said, we don't know if the CCP (China) will force ExpressVPN to one day install backdoors and log data, similar to what the NSA does.

If you are serious about privacy you have to pay up and get ProtonVPN or Mullvad VPN.

All these ones with cashback and low prices are harvesting your data. You can't run secure data centres, customer service, design software for multiple platforms for a few dollars a month. Arguably its easy for them to see what you are doing online at either entry or exit of the VPN tunnel. NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark VPN all use shell companies and fake addresses. They claim incorporation in ‘safe’ counties. Do some digging and 99% of the time it’s the address used by other companies or just the address of the lawyer they paid to do a shell company in that country. Look at NordVPN; it is associated with Tefincom, Darius Bereika and Tesonet that runs a data-harvesting service.

  • Another VPN Bargain ending up steering to the topic of "is it safe". While we are on this topic, which VPN service safest from experience, anyone? I'm yet to jump on the vpn ship. If VPN Companies are harvesting info what difference does it make if you had one or not?

    • ProtonVPN - well known for "exacting standards for physical security"

  • Been looking at Nord vs Express for awhile now. VERY new at this. The ChengBao/ExpressVPN Hong Kong stuff looks scary. And reviews about Express being very slow and being seen by China and being linked to data mining companies. Should I be concerned?

  • You might want to check stack social VPN lifetime deals. https://stacksocial.com/sales/ivacy-vpn-lifetime-subscriptio…
I've been using Ivacy for the past years and it does all I want, from split tunneling, downloads, streams… etc.
Usually the speed is capped at 15Mbps Dl/Up. Defo a bottleneck for a NBN giving me 95Mbps so the split tunnel comes REALLY handy.
I don't have a need for strict anonymity so I'm happy with it. I wouldn't trust 100% the anonymity granted by any VPN providers anyways…

    • Oh… and the avoid the forex fees, I use a 28 Degrees CC. It's good for buying anything that isn't sold in AUD.

    • Ivacy would be ok for streaming only.. depending on how many servers in different countries actually work for that.

Privacy. Zero… it's a contributor to the Five Eyes Alliance:
      https://www.vpnmentor.com/blog/understanding-five-eyes-conce…

As for expressvpn, consistently faster for working stream servers than Nord and less stuffing around trying to find a US server that works.. basically all the Westcoast servers work for Netflix/Hulu/Prime/etc. for normal VPN'ing.. their all fast if you pick that one closest to you.. no point leaving it on USA like what some do.

The benefit of ExpressVPN over Nord is being able to have multiple active server locations via OpenVPN in directly your router… route all your normal browsing devices to an Aussie Server (ie laptops and phones), then set all your streaming/media devices to LA/New Jersey for example.. this includes Chromecast and AppleTV

      EDIT
As an aside, if anyone here has a Asus-Merlin compatible router (not just Asus, ie, Netgear, D-Link, etc).. highly recommend you to update to this firmware for the advanced OpenVPN controls as per this setup with ExpressVPN:

  • Existing customer wondering how to take advantage? They are the only VPN I could find that is fast enough for everyday use and has split tunnelling.

      FYI.
I contact their support each year to get the 12+3 months as an existing user.
I haven’t tried for the cash back but been using Express VPN for 5 years.

    • Cancel & re-join.

  • Go NordVPN or Surfshark with the 90% cashback. Im in Sydney and I moved from ExpressVPN to Nord and have way better speeds.
    US Netflix works perfectly.

  • Is this VPN have 10x better service compared to surfshark? Paid $13 for surfshark and have been great …

  • I use IronSocket vpn, paying 25 usd/year (50$ but every year they gave 50% off when requesting, from black friday sale several years ago). It has all 3 (vpn, proxy, dns) and worked for Netflix from usa.

What is special about paying 100$ here?

I just thought of share my experience with ExpressVPN,

Extremely good VPN service in many ways including speed, only downtime is (if this is applicable to you, unfortunately my case this is required), you wouldn’t be able to use on demand TV from Channel 9, 7 and 10.

However, SBS and ABC works fine. Other 3 block the access.

I raised a ticket with ExpressVPN 4 months ago, nothing done yet and hence, I will discontinue once my subscription is finish in Oct.

    • Foxtel Go also blocks any AU servers i've tried..

    • It works if you use the DNS/Mediastreamer method… the likes of netflix/amazon/hulu/etc are automatically set to USA (not changeable) and leaves the Aussie apps unaffected
