Free Speed Boost for nbn Fixed Line Customers (Modem Reboot Required, Selected Areas)

2620

Hi all. From the outset, please note this may not work for everyone but has certainly worked for me and a few others I've asked to test. Let us know in the comments how it went for you. Read this article on Whirlpool so gave it a go. Previously getting 46/17Mbps on Speedtest but now getting 54/18Mbps after a modem power cycle. Not sure what the '15% overprovisioning' really means, so I'll let the experts comment below. This article has a lot more information. Hope it works for you. Stay safe, and enjoy :)

Edit: Telstra announcement.

Mod Note: This is not specific to Telstra, the deal is just linked to a Speedtest hosted by Telstra.

  • No luck on Mate yet

  • Getting 106 down for a few weeks now from 96 on HFC.

  • Working on HFC with Optus. 108/37.

However, I replaced my router today and discovered the cable between the NBN modem and router was holding my speed back. I only get 93/37 using the old cable with the new/old router. New cable (5e) gives me results above.

Worth noting incase someone else has the same issue.

  • I tried on Superloop, 100/20 yesterday. No change after reboot the whole system, only 83/17
I have HFC. I live in NSW.
Does anyone has a list of suburb that work for Superloop?

I am with superloop on FttN. I noticed my "sync speed" had gone from the typical 54Mbps to 60Mbps on my 50/20 plan. However, a speed test still gives me the same old 46Mbps. And it's not my line that's the issue; my "maximum attainable linespeed" rates at 92.5Mbps, and I once reached 79Mbps when on a 100/40 plan.

Honestly, the whole FttN thing is idiotic. I can choose to pay for speeds I can't quite reach, or get a subscription that doesn't take full advantage of my line. Why can't they have intermediate speeds, like 75/20 or something? It can't be that hard.

Without turning it into a political argument, anyone working in the ICT industry knows that if you want to do something, do it right or be prepared for maintenance to kill you. I wonder for how much longer we have to suffer through the copper hell.

      • How many connected phone sockets or lines do you have to the first pair?

  • Is this a permanent boost or just a boost temporarily due to covid? I have finally hit the top speed of what i am actually paying for.

  • With Tangerine 42/20 FTTP in Sydney, was getting 35/14, after reboot comes up to 46/17, happy with result, Thanks OP!

  • It works for me!

Tpg 50/20 FTTC get 46/17 via speedtest. Contacted TPG and they said they are not aware of overprovisioning.

We (OzBargain) were featured on ZDNet:
"Bravo ACCC: Telstra begins flogging NBN overprovisioning as 15% speed boost"

Shout-out to TA for creating the post!

    • Beat me to this! Smile OzB :-)

For those on Aussie, here's a list of POIs that have been done https://whrl.pl/Rf5QjN
Remaining POIs will be done 31Aug hopefully.

    • Thanks.

Just wondering, AussieBB email said NBN have some maintenance on Tues in my area, reboot my modem last night still the same.

From the list not up yet.

  • Can confirm it worked on my AussieBB connection. I'm on 100/40..was getting steady 95/36.
After modern reboot, now getting 108/37

    • I came here to post the same lol.

  • got this today - Optus Asquith depot HFC

Paying for 100/50 getting 99/50..not happy. I need more

    • What provider offers 100/50 NBN?

      50Mbps upload?

  • Must be working for me now as I'm getting 54/18Mbps just like OP.

  • Bentley Depot is now active
    22 Mbps -> 26.14 Mbps

  • Telstra are dodgy the advertise NBN100 as 20Mbps upload. What happened to 100/40 speeds?

YouTube content providers should be protesting!

    Typical speeds between
    7pm-11pm 88Mbps (download),
    15Mbps (upload) Typical speeds outside
    7pm-11pm 90Mbps (download),
    15Mbps (upload)

  • Is anyone on a Vocus reseller getting the higher speeds? I messaged my ISP (Launtel) today and they advised Vocus is simply not doing the over-provisioning, which was a shock to me.

  • Just did a router and NBN box restart as the YouTube streaming was flaky.

I am on NBN50 with Internode. The speed has gone up from 46-47mbps to 53-54mbps.

I am on FTTP and in Sydney.
