This is a great lens for sony full frame / APSC cameras, if you like shooting birds and wildlife. I think around 2500 is the lowest it has been, and the additional $100 girft card makes it a bargain. It is very sharp and internally zooming so less chance of dust going inside. The 15% off deal ends today though.

Spanning a versatile telephoto range, the FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS from Sony is a flexible zoom perfectly suited for nature, wildlife, and sports applications. Its long reach pairs with a modest maximum aperture range to render to a relatively lightweight and portable design, which benefits handheld use. The optical design incorporates a series of low dispersion and aspherical elements, which suppress a variety of aberrations, color fringing, and distortion in order to produce well-corrected imagery with high sharpness, color fidelity, and accurate rendering. A Nano AR Coating has also been applied to further reduce surface reflections and flare for improved contrast when working in bright and backlit conditions.

Other great bargain is 24mm 1.4 GM lens. This is great for astrophotography and wide angle portraits. Very lightweight and super sharp. Its selling at $1,834.30 + $200 bonus gift card.

  • bah! this is so tempting to complete my lens collection.

  • Yes that is an awesome price. I paid $2,900 a month ago thinking it was a good price. You can price match with Sony and get another $50 off using AmEx.

    • thanks for the tip, I am trying to price match 24/1.4 GM

      • I'm after the Sony 20mm F1.8 G but not many deals on it and no cashback. :( I would buy the 24GM if I didn't already have the 24-70mm GM. The 16-35mm GM is an option but 16mm is almost too wide for most purposes and the F2.8 not quite as fast as the 20 and 24.

        • again thanks for a tip.

          I got 24/1.4 for $1834

          -$130 (7% sony Shopback )

          -$200 eGift card

          -$50 Amex

          ===================
          $1454

    • What's your primary use case for this?

      • I use a Stormcase which stores a buch of lenses or keep it in it's own Portabrace soft case when required.

Thats nice case man. BTW what I mean is what is the primary purpose of the lens? Sport? Wild life? GAS?

          • @humbala: For sport you could get the 70-200 or 100-400. This one is heavy and long for sports I think. I use this for wildlife especially birds.

@humbala: I shoot video, so corporate and doco work for me. It's WAY better than my old Sigma 150-600mm.

            • @DSOTM: Did you know there is a new Sigma 100-400mm for Sony E mount just out? It's $1340 at Georges. Looks decent. (Edit: back to $1489)

              • @Flyerone: The Sigma 100-400mm look 'tiny' when compare to this 200-600! Kind of half the price too.

            • @DSOTM: I am curious, if you don't mind telling me, what sort of video work that require such a long lens? Sorry if I sound ignorant, because i only see this kind of long lens in wildlife/bird shooting.

@humbala: No problem. Subject wise, I shoot long rural landscapes, city streets look good with the image compression, street bike races, vehicles on highways, whales (a lot of whales around at the moment), ships coming in to port and anything that needs that subject to be pulled in. These subjects are all things I shot as required for corporate videos. It’s a nice to have lens, probably not essential for most people.

@DSOTM: Thanks for the information, interesting!

    • I got this price matched at sony 2 weeks ago for $2649 thinking its an amazing deal. The lens didn't even get shipping and both deals (Digidirect and Amex) came along… Called sony to cancel and they immediately shipped it so i couldnt cancel lol

    • Too late for price match, Digidirect discount ends tonight. If you have done it on Friday and got price match, you could triple deal with Sony SB 7% cash back. I was tossing up whether to get the A7r IV with this triple discounts…

  • If you buy this lens from DD I hope you get it in your hands without having to wait a long time, it certainly a great lens and a very good price. Their reputation is very poor. There are whole threads on them in photography forums.

    • Yep, I've been waiting for weeks for my last order to ship.

    • +1

Good to know I'm not the only one experiencing issues with them. Now I won't feel as bad when I suggest they immediately comply with the consumer guarantees ;)

    • Ordered a 24-70 GM on Wednesday with express shipping, shipped on Thursday, arrived today (Sunday) Sydney to Geelong. I was super shocked! I hope others get the same luck I did.

  • also sports. this is a great lens to pair with A7 mk iii or iv, or A9, and probably especially A9 where this will shine the most

however know your use case and make sure you try it out at the store, because it's a ridiculously large lens if the biggest you ever handled is 70-200 2.8

  • Don't buy from DD, they are absolutely terrible. I ordered a lens back in mid June and still waiting, and there has been no update from Digidirect.

  • I had a really good experience instore with DD.
Surprised to see bad experiences by others, but I have never bought anything online from them. Hopefully they see this and correct their reputation quickly.

    • +1

That is where the issue is, they are terrible with online order. I have always had good experience until my recent purchase.
Mind you, I have bought a lot of stuff over the years from them and this is the first time that I have waited more than a month and half without an update.

  • Anyone upset with DD delivery and customer service could try price match with Sony.
