Nice to see the LP bracket is included, according to the description! I wonder how this would go in those cheap refurbished Dells?

    • Keen to know this too.

This guy installed (and reviews) it in an Optiplex 9010
I believe the 9010 uses the x16 PCIe while the 9020 can only fit in the x4 PCIe port so less performance
A bit of a discussion here saying a 5-10% performance hit at 1080p and 10-20% at 1440p from using the 4x PCIe port instead of the x16

      • saying a 5-10% performance hit at 1080p and 10-20% at 1440p from using the 4x PCIe port instead of the x16

Shouldn't this be the other way around? The performance drop should be larger at lower resolutions since more data gets sent through the bus at higher frame rates.

        • Just summarising what was said in the Optiplex 9020 deal comments.
My understanding is that higher resolution requires more data through the bus which appears to impact it more than FPS.

Not all Optiplex models have the same motherboard layout. The 9010 in that video has the x16 slot in the right spot for a dual-slot card while the 9020 SFF has the slots swapped around for whatever reason. Just Google for the "Technical Guidebook" for the particular Optiplex model that you have and it will provide the motherboard layout, expansion card dimensions, PCI slot power ratings etc

GPU prices are at a high point right now with low-profile cards commanding a further premium. You'll have to weigh up the relatively low cost of a used "OEM + LP GPU" vs a new "entry-level budget PC". There are pros and cons regardless of which path you choose but do your sums and figure out what your priorities are.

        • Exactly my point, you’ll lose some performance if only x4 slot is accessible.

  • Me three! I assume the key will be whether or not the card requires any auxiliary power connectors

According to MSI page the card draws 75 watts from the PCIE slot without need for 6pin aux power

One HDMI and one dvi? Thats stingy as.

    • It's Low Profile.

So chuck in a DP, even my 1030 has a HDMI and DP.

You can get the Gigabyte one from Centrecom for $265 delivered
It has HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort. MSI one looks to have a larger air intake at the cost of less video output ports

      • I'd personally favour the extra port/DisplayPort on this over the MSI; wondering on thoughts from others as to whether they'd go this Gigabyte, or the listed MSI (and why)

MSI version will be better for a plex server- good airflow for consistent transcoding, display port would be pointless if you've just got it plugged into a basic nothingness screen that's only purpose is ocasional monitoring. Where as better airflow is a much bigger gain when running it for that purpose.

I've got a MSI GT1650 LP in a refurbished Dell SFF system (i7 4770, 16GB). Despite the SFF PSU only outputting 240w, it is rock stable. Completed Doom Eternal on max detail settings at 1920x1080 and it performed fantastically.

EDIT - it's a HP Elitedesk 800 G1 from ebay, if anyone was keen. They were a good deal last year at $339. I got it cheaper due to having discounted Ebay gift cards (10% off) and then pretty sure I got another 10% from a promo that was on.

    • i think nowadays better to build your own for a bit more if size doesn't matter

something like below under $500 , all new parts with warranty

      r3 3100 - $160
      b450m - $100
      16gb 3200 - $100
      240ssd - $50
      psu - $80
      case - 2nd hand dumpster

      • Depends the reburb LFF have a great form factor.
        Yes you pay a premium.

      • Yeah good point. I was spewing as after buying it on Ebay, Techfast started offering some great deals on systems with the RX580 (for about $600) which is better than the GTX 1650. I was considering upgrading but I just checked Techfast's website and their basic systems are about $200-$300 more now.

    • Sorry - wasn't Max detail settings at 1920x1080, it was only High.

    • Preorder and imported product vs local stock readily available. Not worth the wait and possible warranty issues for less than $5 saving

      • i mean for anyone who looking for more ports, otherwise, it is not worth the wait

Amazon page says its the gddr6 version

        • Yes the DDR6 version should use less power, will run faster memory clock, but base clock will be slower. So overall similar speeds with less power usage.

Think this is a double width card, so may drive what slot you can use.

    • Thank you!

  • Ddr5 vs ddr6

  • Isn't this better

    4 port
    ddr6
    269+delivery (11.30 to Sydney Metro)

Ah ignore this… The amazon one is the same and cheaper..

  • Have been very tempted to pick up a SFF refurb, size the critical thing for me - i know you cant get better value out of a full size case..

    • This card works great in a SFF system. I picked up a HP Elitedesk G1 800 SFF refurb (i7 4770, 16GB) this time last year and slotted one of these MSI GTX 1650 LP cards in. Works perfectly - finished Doom Eternal on 1920x1080 at decent graphics detail settings too and it ran fantastically.
