FO4 is a great old game. I remember being stuck in the virtual world sim within the game for ages.

    • +5

      Isn’t that fallout 3?

      • Exactly yeah.

I was also confused about Fallout 4 being "GOOD" , "great" and "old"?…

Lol it's probs the worst of the bunch ever released.

        • +9

I thought ‘76 was supposed to be the worst?

          • +1

@mapax: I wouldn't know, didn't care enough to try past the starting vault ☹️

          • @mapax: Yep that was the consensus online.. lol

        • FO4 isn't too bad(Ok well minus the annoying random crashes that has caused me to rage quit several times….), there are some nice changes and some….not so nice changes compared to FO3….

      • Yes you are right! FO3.

      • +1

I didn't realise this was 12 years old now, time flies

        • +1

Imagine 11 yo me playing this at release
I literally had nightmares for weeks because of one location, the supermarket under the bridge , right past that bomb-crater-city

          I hated my life.

    • +2

reading anyone call FO4 "old" scares me to my bones and reminds me of my own mortality.

  • +4

The F3 GOTY edition is $6.07 - seems worthwhile. The New Vegas Ultimate edition seems to be the same price as standard?

  • +9

If you get fallout 3, just spend the extra 3 dollars and get the game of the year edition. The dlc is worth like 50 bucks when it's not on sale and when it rarely is, you'll end up spending 20 for it as a bundle.

  • +3

FO4 was amazing! Still waiting on sequel!

    • -2

Stop it go away you're drunk, obviously.

  • +2

Fallout 3 GOTY edition is still one of my all-time favourites. Brilliant game (I played on PS3 first time round but also have on PC).

  • does it still need a hacked exe to run the legit version?

    • +2

You need to install the unofficial patch to get FO3 to work on Windows 7 and newer PCs
New Vegas doesn’t need to be patched to work

      • wut? So if I buy this I won't be able to play it as is?

        • +1

GOG version works, its the steam store one with the problems. I got the GOTY FO3 in June and have had no problems on Win10.

          • +2

@Dungeon Master: I think GoG version is superior because it has GFWL removed and it 4GB aware. You can apply these fixes to the Steam version though (the Script extender FOSE bypasses GFWL for instance).

    Thanks so much OP.
I have the game, but was missing 2 Dlc's for it.
As a bonus the Dlc's are also on sale ($2 each).
Just noticed the GOTY for $6, might be cheaper to pay that instead of the 2-3 DLC's Im missing, and mayby sell my hard copies of base game & Dlc's.

A awesome game, as beebul said, never got around to finishing it.
Looking forward to playing it again once I get my pc set up.

  • +4

War never changes but price does

  • +4

Get the GOTY editions, at least for 3.

3 and New Vegas are two of the greatest games of all time. Play them!

I can recall Fallout 3 on Steam doesn't work without patches/edits on Windows 10, unlike the GOG edition which works straight from download. Is this still true?

    • I never knew about this.
First time hearing about this & the hacked exe, played F3 on W7 with no issues. Had LVegas, but never installed it (still playing 3).

I've been using W7 since late last year, new pc will W10, hope there is issues, can anyone confirm this?

      • +2

Yes, had issues with Windows 7 and 10. There’s even a disclaimer on the Steam page. Needs the unofficial patch to work. New Vegas works without needing a patch

        • +5

Thanks for confirming mate. Thought it would be fixed on steam now but not the case.

Did a bit of reading an apparently the GOG version works straight away, so not sure if this helps anyone:

FO3 GOTY and New Vegas Ultimate both $7.19 AUD each at GOG.

            @zander43: on F3 GOTY page at gog.com
"When you buy this game, The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls Chapter II: Daggerfall will be added to your GOG.com account for free!"

            Sweet! Two cherries on top.
Bought and confirmed two Elder Scrolls games coming in my library

      • I should have said it's been 2-3 years since Ive played it.
Again, installing W10 (1st time) this week.

        Thanks for the info.
What a bloody mess, Did Beth ever state why?, just stupid needing a unofficial patch.

FO:NV is one of my favourite games of all time - I wish I had something I could play it on.

  • +3

Might be worth getting the GOTY edition of Fallout 3 if you like to complete a game and keep playing. I recall the vanilla ending of the game didn't let you continue on afterwards, but they "fixed" that with one of the DLCs.

    • Originally the game didn't accept creative solutions either - your character or Sarah Lyons had to die in the final quest. You couldn't send the immune mutant Fawkes or the robot NPC to activate Project Purity.

  • +3

This youtube video helped me (and plenty of others) get Fallout 3 GOTY Steam version working on Windows 10.
    https://youtu.be/ZTT9bkZytzI

  • Yeah but does it work properly? i think not….

  • +1

Thanks. Picked up FO3 GOTY and FO:NV GOTY for not much money.

I'm actually in the process of preparing to play Fallout New Vegas for the first time. Modding the game is quite time consuming though. Mod Organizer 2 helps keep everything ordered though. I am using the Viva New Vehas guide and adding extra mods onto it: https://vivanewvegas.github.io/index.html
