        "Up to 8GB Soldered DDR4-3200 + 8GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200"

That indicates to me that there is a slot free

        • Ah, I didnt see that. good catch

    • this one is much lighter - and has a better build

the other ones screen is better -

I guess if you are using your laptop as a portable this deal is better.

    • along with the other comments, the one you linked isnt touch screen.

  • Pardon my ignorance, how do you get it for $670?

    • +1

      Wait for 2pm, use Cashrewards.com

You pay the full price now and get the refund back in.. whenever they get round to it

      • I had already purchased it.. I think it activated 6% Shopback.. so I missed out?

        • Yes, afraid so. Unless you can cancel and rebuy?

          • +1

@boxall: I am goose.. I will cancel and rebuy like you suggested. Thank you.

  • Any idea how much life you get out of something like this? Had my trusty MacBook Pro for 6 years now and looking at moving over to something with windows that will do everything I need it to for Uni (I'm a student) and maybe some light music production, after finally swapping my iPhone out for an Android and it being the best technological decision I've made in ages. Any input here would be much appreciated, I've done some searching online but there's not much in the way of comparison between MacBook Pro's and ThinkPads!

    • Apple Macbooks have the best build quality on the market. Having said that, ThinkPads have a reputation of being tanks and it's why they are often used in enterprise environments.

I'd expect this laptop to last at least 3 years comfortably.

    • 5 years + - 2

      • Yeah ok cool, I really need to get a good 5 years out of it guaranteed. Mind you, it's a third of the price of a MacBook, so it's like, buy 3 computers over 10 years or buy 1 lol… Actually a tough decision. Maybe I'll wait for a yoga deal so there's pen comparability- that would be super handy and might tip me over the line.

        • -1

Interesting, i have a pen for mine, but never use it.
          When do you use it?

          • @ocoolio: I don't have one but I'd use the pen for note taking at uni. My work lent me a surface pro for teaching and the functionality has been good but it's quite chunky, I'm thinking something lightweight would be better.

            • @djthornton: Depends on how quickly the cpu world moves. If tmr intel comes out with 8 physical as their main stream mobile cpu, this will be become redundant fairly quickly as programs are written with 8 physical cores in mind.

Having said that, the last gen dual core lasted for many years.

In terms of build quality, lenovo is one of the better ones.

  • Tips for a beginner on cashback? Just downloaded the app, lets say i want to grab this laptop what are the next steps to reach the $650 mark after cashback? And does it take 95 days to receive the cashback?

  • Would the Cashback still work with the discount code TA-HOT-L380 applied?

    • Yes, cause the code is applied on Lenovo site once you go via CR.

  • Come on TA Give us some Yoga! please

  • -1

Would be tempting if it had a better screen. Probably better off with the BMAX Y13

    • +1

      Y13 has an Intel N4120.
      Thanks but no thanks

  • +1

Can you upgrade memory during purchase, or is this a pre-set configuration to get this price?

  • +1

    250nit touch

just to point out that if this screen is anything like what they put into T495 this screen sucks. T495 screen is 300nit touch, and you have to look at it at a straight angle to see good colour and contrast. a bit to right or left it gets a tint and loses contrast. let's say you're reading something from the screen, then leftmost and rightmost parts of each row would look fuzzy, while center of the screen will be crisp and clear.

and screen in this laptop is more dim at 250nit spec. I would skip it.

  • Are any of those amex cashbacks going on for Lenovo, as that would be even sweeter!

  • +1

This looks like a great deal - does anyone know if it’s possible to use a pen with this screen? I see a comment above noting you can’t use the fancy pens, but are there other options? Thanks very much.

    • You cannot use a pen with this model. I confirmed this with the lenovo sales rep on chat.

      • Thanks very much, that’s useful to know.. Makes it a harder decision!

    • this is not a glass coated screen. this is like normal laptop panel with a thin multitouch layer applied on top of it.
pen would damage it. finger operation only.

      • Thanks for noting this - I ended up deciding it wouldn’t quite suit my needs given this. Hopefully there are some good yoga deals coming up!

  • +1 for the coupon code :D

I had these for work last year. The WVA touchscreen is very very bad.

If you connect it to a monitor then great, but using it as a laptop is a terrible experience. I would maybe add $300 to my budget to replace it later with a IPS from Lenovo (not sure if there's any compatible tho).

    • just like I thought. I have seen T495 with a similar sort of panel with built in touch layer, albeit a bit brighter at 300nit. they drive me batshit up the lamp post, I don't expect such crappy screens in work laptops.

    • Lenovo seem to use the terms WVA and IPS interchangeably. Maybe someone else can confirm?
Some of the "IPS" screens I've seen on them are shocking when viewed from an angle, whilst others seem ok.

      • WVA stands for Wide Viewing Angle, and is most definitely IPS. but IPS with a touch layer on top of it is a bit different.

  • Dangit— sorry wrong thread.

    • All good

Thanks OP - just ordered one via CR

  • Thanks OP - ordered one with CR

  • Do you guys buy any upgrade? Or just pay 822?

    • not that I wanted any upgrade but was browsing earlier and could not find an option. I am anyways a light user so 8GB is fine for me…

    • If I do decide to buy additional ram can someone tell me what ram (8? 16?) I would need to purchase to be compatible with this laptop?

  • +2

Thx TA, ordered one for my brother.

  • +2

Just ordered. Went through TA's link. Cheers

  • +2

Just ordered. Seems like a great deal. Went through the Cashrewards link so hopefully no issues posting…

    • +7

You will never have an issue with a Lenovo TA code as far as cashback goes. Even if you stuff up and the purchase fails to track, you will be paid via a claim provided there's a matching time/date stamp click-out in your CR account.

      • +1

        Good to know, thank you!

      • +1

I can vouch for that too, bought one too, to hard to resist

      • +1

Thank you TA, you are the best!
This was an awesome deal, few of my friends got this too, can't believe it

Even though I got 2 notebooks in June couldn't resist

Got my tracking details about 2 hrs ago woohoo

I still need to break my $200 + cashback from Amazon when you guys had 10% cashback no limits

Keep up the good work, can't wait to get my hands on this beautiful laptop

  • +1

Thanks OP! I'm pretty new to this cashrewards thing and after going to the Lenovo site via the cashrewards link, it opens a new tab when clicking on L380 thinkpads - can anyone confirm whether finalising the purchase in this new tab will allow it to be tracked by CR? (hopefully I've explained it clearly enough)

  • -1

FYi - it's only 3% cashback for this one

    • …spewin for anyone that bought think it was 20%

      • +5

        It is 20%.

        • Thank you

  • " Apply code TA-HOT-L380 at checkout for discount. Ends 11:59PM AEST 16/08/20, unless sold out or withdrawn prior. This laptop is eligible for 3% cashback. Check all other Lenovo cashback rates here, which can change without notice."

    • +1

Please trust the OP. See here. Refresh the offer and you'll find there's no mention of 3%.

      • Just did, it's been updated thx have purchased :)

  • For those who have purchased this, have you got the email confirmation from Cashrewards if cash back has been tracked?

I haven't received yet. Generally its pretty quick. Just curious if I did everything right in excitement :|

    • Just received this. Took about an hour from ordering

    • Mine too

    • +1

Lenovo tracking is typically 4-24 hours from purchase. If it tracks earlier, bonus :)

      • +1

Thanks TA! Got it tracked and confirmed. You legend!

        • Enjoy :)

    • I received confirmation just now. Ordered at around 2pm.

  • @tightarse can you confirm it's 20% or 3 % cash back?!?!

    • +1

20% if you went through Cashrewards.

Note: just purchased one through the app, cheers OP!

    • +6

Far out, he works for CR I think TA knows what he's doing! In TA we trust!

      • Just an old 'TC" on their cashrewards page I saw - it's been fixed, just looking out for my fellow OzBargainers with any pesky t&c's

        • +1

If it was anyone other than TA posting CR deal like this, yes it be questionable but if you don't know already TA is reliable.

  • So tempted to get this for $670 and sell my HP 840 g3 for like $450. Got 1.5hours to think about it

Anyone know how much faster this is compared to the HP 840 G3??

  • I trust in TA. Ordered. Thanks

  • +2

    purchased, thanks

  • +2

can confirm my click was registered through Cashback click history, so should track for the 20%, thanks for deal.

  • +2

Purchased - sweet deal - well done TA - legend.

Click tracked in CR so I'm resting assured it will show up in purchase history in a day or two.

  • +1

Thanks TA, grabbed one. Timely since my main laptop just died while I'm still WFH

  • +2

Bought thru the app. Big thanks TA.

  • Is it considered as "negotiated offers (phone/email/chat)" if I put someone as representative sale? Did not negotiate with that Lenovo representative but I just asked something related to the product. The representative gave me his/her rep number and I just put it there upon checkout to pay it forward.

  • Question : never used cashrewards

20% off using cashrewards to brings it to $822

you cannot use the coupon code and the 20% on top of that is it ?

    Thanks in advance

    • +1

Nope….using the code on lenovo brings it down by 20% = 822

Using cashrewards -get further 20% off

      • Thanks for that RM .. correct me if i am wrong.. i used the code and got it to $822 .. then how do you checkout using cash rewards ?.. i am using a browser and not the app .. Does that make a difference ?

The final price stays at $822

        Thanks

        • +1

log on to cashrewards nad then via CR website click on Lenovo.

CR will track that and use the code on lenovo website.

        • +1

It will work via the CR app and the browser both

  • +2

Oh, and by the way - the cash reward confirmation is for $164.40

Bringing the total price down to $657.60

At a better price than what I thought initially

    • +1

Thanks for the feedback. Great to know you tracked successfully. Enjoy the savings :)

      • Hi TA,

I purchased about 30 mins ago but it's not showing in my CR profile yet - is this normal?

        Cheers
        Btk

        • +1

Lenovo tracking is typically 4-24 hours from purchase. If it tracks earlier, bonus :)

    • Estimated Approval Date 15/11/2020……seems like a long wait.

  • Why is no one going for the E14 Gen 2 with newer specs for $90 more after all discounts?
    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-edge/…

    • No 20% cashback

      • +1

Thanks again for another great deal, TA. You are credit to tightarses, everywhere.
