    STORE in title

    • +2

thanks for reminding me mate. still relatively new to posting deals (probably my third). updating to include the store in the title.

    • Google knows everything, does it not?

      • I just asked my Google Home mini to 'Play my favourite songs' and it brought up one of my favourite songs on Spotify. So it does…

    • The algorithm learns your likes and dislikes as you go along.

How does it know what I listen to?

        • +7

Ok Google, Play me something jv hates😃

          • @INFIDEL: what did it play?

            • +6

@jv: It certainly wasn't something BOLD.

              • +2

@INFIDEL: Mine played "I hate me, I hate me" by The Third Bear (JV), P74, L25

I have no idea what that is, but I listened it to it out of principle.

                • +5

@Fybre: Just asked Google to play that track in reverse.
                  …something… something….jv is the devil… scream… BOLD is beautiful…

It's true, Google does know everything!

                  Sorry jv😉

    • Haha gold JV!

  • Any upgrade from the JBL Link 10?

    • +1

link 10 battery life is around 5 hours from what I recall. link portable is around 8 hours. link portable comes with charging cradle in the box. link portable has usb c vs microUSB on the link 10.

  • +1

I had the JBL Link 10 and sadly was one who had this problem. So I would think twice: https://support.google.com/googlenest/thread/991509?hl=en

    • +1

the link 10 is the older model and have not seen any of these issues mentioned for the link portable.

    • use mine every day never had any issue

    • I've had the JBL Link 10 since January 2019 and there has been a few problems along the way (e.g. not responding to commands, but a reset solves the problem).

Nothing major though. I enjoy its waterproof qualities so would often take it into the shower with me, but a soak in the pool disabled the microphone for a while.

      • I find I have to reset every couple of days, which drove me spare. I'm not sure why that would change with this model. That said, not everyone has the problem so probably worth rolling the dice, esp if it's under warranty.

  • This looks like a great deal. I've been loving my Bose smart speaker and its ability to not need a phone sync'd - this one having the added benefit of having a battery makes it super attractive for a hunge

  • This is not waterproof right? So I assume it overall has better sound quality than the Charge 3/4? Anyone have experience?

    • +1

it has an IP7 rating so is claimed "waterproof", but I would caution against calling it waterproof, more like water resistant to a certain level and period of time.

    • I have a charge 3 and was hoping this new one was equal or better in sound quality. It isn’t. It’s disappointing. Now I’m looking for a used charge 3.

      • Thanks for clearing that up for me! I am still happy with my 5 year old Charge 2!

  • +1

Also don't forget to stack with discounted Big W vouchers if you have access to those.. brings the price down to $94.05!

    • +1

      Everyone does via cash rewards

The only thing straying me away from buying this is the fact that you can't pair it up with another JBL Link Portable (or other JBL speaker) to create a stereo pair. But for those who don't need that or want that feature, it's a banging deal.

    • +1

You can't create true stereo but you can create a pair with another of the same speaker or any Google smart speaker in the Google Home app. I've done this with even a Google Nest Mini. Each speaker plays the same thing at the same time. Good enough for me.

      • yep so it's just multiple device pairing rather than stereo pair. If that's good enough for folks then it's a good buy. I actually wanted true stereo pairing so I didn't purchase :(

        • Curious to know, which other speakers do that?

    • +1

Too late to be relevant, but I got two of them and was surprised to find you actually can. It's done through the Google Home app.

      • No. That's not how "to create a stereo pair"! It's multiple mono sound! As already explained.

You are putting mono speakers together in a Group in the Home app. It's still mono, from more speakers.

        • +1

Maybe I'm retarded, but it's separate from the "create group" function and it's titled "speaker pair" - and all the supporting documentation says it creates a stereo pair.

          • @Taverner: No you are correct!!
Sorry, I think I'm the one who needs updating!

            Very interesting!! Thanks👍

You Can Now ‘Stereo Pair’ Google Home And Google Home Mini Speakers

            Attempting to Stereo Pair now…

Not available option in (single) JBL speaker for me in Home app (just updated).

I guess having a pair of better speakers like these is what turns 'Stereo Pair' feature on.
I only have this JBL & a few minis, which the linked article says aren't supported yet. Obviously those won't produce a good enough sound to be worth using the 'Stereo Pair' feature.

So without a pair of suitable speakers - it doesn't show or work until it's been updated by Google.

  • Can you control smart devices with this? Thanks.

    • +1

Yep. Are your devices on Google Home?

I bought this last week for Big W for $220! Thank god I bought it with the 100 days returns in mind so I kept the box and all packaging. Have bought this deal for $99 so will return the other for a refund. Anyone else find it an absolute pain to setup (over wifi). Instructions are useless! Finally figured it out but it took a while to setup.

    • +18

Easier to return the new purchase with old receipt!

      • This guy returns.

        • +4

My friends thought stores should have my photo at the service counter - I returned so much years ago.

          • +1

@INFIDEL: A bit tangental, but I used to work 300m up the road from the local KFC. One summer I started going there more and more frequently for my lunch break until one day the manager served me and said, "just the usual again today?".

            • +5

@dm01: In some stores it's best not to be seen as a regular.
              Long ago…
Had just had my hair cut very short & was browsing in an adult store…
Staff member said "We haven't seen you in a while. How long you were 'inside' for?".
Honest it was my first visit. I had no reply - just left the store & didn't return!

              • +1

                @INFIDEL: Oh that's gold!

              • +1

@INFIDEL: Tell him "shut up mate give me your best stuffs"

          • +1

            @INFIDEL: So I returned my friends😃

Note free delivery to Vic . May be can come in title

    • i'll include it in the description. this isn't a deal specific to VIC so no point putting in the title :)

  • i gave a feed back on VIC but i think its free delivery to all Metros but need to confirm first.
Thanks OP for the post i picked one, seems to be a good deal.

    • nah the free delivery for +$40 spend is only for VIC. Delivery elsewhere is from $7.90 standard shipping I believe.

  • +1

Should be able to price match at OW.

    • yep you would have to call up though. their website is showing as only available online.

    • +1

my cousin tried but they said no because it's online order only.. no phone orders.

    • +2

I called them up and they said "can't be right that someone is selling it for $99 when our price is $249 - must be a different product".

    • +4

UPDATE: OW called me back after having their pricing team confirm with Big W that it is indeed the same product, and placed the order over the phone for $94.05 delivered (1-2 business days). Let the floodgates open!

EDIT: Looks like they've matched Big W price on the website.

      • but its Unavailable Online, i wanted to buy as Big doesn't have it

        • +1

It was available yesterday. They've either sold out or pulled it off the website.

        • Was that "missing page" or just stated "sold out"?

My PC browser went into "missing page" but it worked on my phone.

  • Can I set two of them up as a stereo pair like you can with to Google Homes / Nests (or Minis)?

    • +2

unfortunately no, this was the one thing that swayed me away from actually buying it. (and also because I only just bought the UE Megaboom 3 but costs double the price of this)

      • Thanks.

    • Yes, you can a speaker 'group' in Home. I've done this with the JBL Portable + Google Home Max and the JBL Portable + Google Nest Mini. No problems, no delays. They just won't be true stereo.

      • +2

Thanks. A group is not stereo at all - so basically no.

        • Completely true. It is worth considering the intend use. As I understand stereo gives a better experience for listening to music, but this only really holds at a set distance between the 2 speakers (by default half way). If in fact the music will be enjoyed from various locations around the room, then stereo may actually degrade the experience so group sound may be better. Obviously this wouldn't hold if you were wanting to use them for a movie with well placed speakers used to give the appropriate effects of directional sound. (I could certainly be wrong)

      • but they do all play in sync? interesting

        • in group mode, yes, they play all in sync. so in the use cases where you'd want to have them in the same room to make the sound louder and in more areas of the room, or, playing the same song in multiple rooms.

    • Yes, you can.

Woolworths Rewards has targeted 2000pts ($10CR) for $100 spend until 16Aug, so add a $1 item to reap that Reward!
All family Rewards cards received that offer.

Pay with discount eGift card to save at least 5%

    Effectively reduces price to $85.

    • yeah i unfortunately didn't have that targeted deal for the 2000 pts

      • I didn't get that too. very tempted at $85

        • even @ $94.05 with discounted big w vouchers that's an absolute bargain.

          • @itsmehuey: I sold my link 20 because I wanted a charging base which this one has. But i'm unsure if the sound quality is as good as my link 20. I wonder if it's too much to use the change of mind return policy for full refund if the sound quality didn't match my old Link 20 as that has set a minimum standard for me.

            Decisions decisions…..

            • @wiltonson: I intend to return if not as expected. Keep the packaging & receipt.

Recently returned a hammock (unused) as doubted it would last. Was an easy quick refund.

We can't judge (sound) quality by reading the box or looking at it, but only by experiencing the product.

Am new to Google Assistant & have Bluetooth adapters on a few old stereos, so don't know if I really want this.

If I like it, will be keeping at this price.

          • @itsmehuey: How do we get a BigW voucher? Saving 95c over Wish Card I have…
Did a search, but it is only mentioned as a way to reduce purchase price.

      • At that price, rang store up the road to put one aside for me. As is "low stock", can't order online. They said they have a few.

Only started using Google Assistant on free Home Mini last week, so should make a good addition to my growing setup.

    • I have this but 50$ spend, 1000 points

    • 2000 bonus points added to Rewards card for this +$1 purchase👍

  • Can these be added to a Google speaker group?

    • +1

speaker group yes, but speaker pair (for stereo) no :)

  • Ordered one… should be good!🤞

    • +3

      Username seems appropriate😉

  • +3

    Wow… $99 delivered and has Guggle Ass-istant!!!

Did I need one? No. Did I buy one? Yes.

    • +1

      Same thing happened here.

      • +1

        OMG twinz!

  • is this a price error?

  • Great deal. Picked one up, free delivery to Vic is nice.
99 dollars at Officeworks now as well.

  • is this as good like google home nest?

    • If you're referring to the Nest Hub, then yeah for sure it's better. The Nest Hub sound isn't great.

      • Not to mention the features - it's waterproof, portable with built-in battery and charges on a base.

        • Yeah - they are pretty different products to be fair.

          • @specialk: Well - they're the same product category but the JBL is a much higher-end product in every respect.

    • This is portable.
