I found this awesome deal on Amazon for a 27 inch monitor. Samsung put this at $219 a couple weeks ago and that deal expired so I pulled the trigger on this one from amazon a couple weeks ago as a backorder and it arrived in less than 2 weeks from amazon and I had a couple promos and gift cards that made mine $134. So enjoy this deal!

Nice… but at that size I want at least QHD.

    • +4

I have had this for a little bit of time and the 1080p is not bad, You will get used to it, and as long as you aren't like 10 centimetres from the screen it looks good!

      • 10cm?

      • -3

Huh? I'm 40cm from a 24" FHD at work and it's barely acceptable. 90ppi is the bare minimum for a normal desktop if you need sharp texts.
For entertainment including gaming, 80ppi is probably OK.

300ppi wouldn't be enough if you are 10cm from the screen.

        • +2

          Snob.

        • +10

You mean you can see text being pixelated? I have 1080p, 1440p and 2160p 27 inch monitors. Saying 27 inch 1080p text is not sharp is just bias. Larger texts do not mean blurry. Unless you are saying, buy 1440p or 2160p monitors but use display scaling so they essentially look like 1080p and use that extra pixels for supersampling / anti-aliasing (the texts will look nicer to your brain).

If you have a 1080p source (i.e. non-ultra Chromecast), you plug that into a 27 inch 1440p monitor vs 1080p, there is no way the 1440p one sharper in full screen mode - due to interpolation involved. If you opted for 1:1 mode, you get a larger border.

For work, the added resolution in 1440p allows you to put more on the desktop. For entertainment, it is not clear cut as there isn't that much 1440p source. Some apps have decent upscaling, but some don't.

dpi isn't everything and that's why most people prefer bigger phones. A tiny text at 300 or 600 dpi is not comfortable to the eyes. You obviously don't have older people in your household.

      • +5

I sit about 30-40cm from a 1080p 24" monitor and reading text on it is horrible.
I have to disagree and say 1080 @ 27" is just too pixelated.

        • Then, get 2160p 27 inch and run it without any scaling. You have really good eye sight.
          Or, get an 8K monitor.

      • +1

I think it's one of those things where once you experience better, you won't go back. I've not had QHD on 27" so FHD works really well for me. It's defs better than my 13" laptop screen!

      • I agree with you, it may be my eyesight, but I have no qualms at 1080p. Sure 1440p looks better, but 1080p isn't horrible

    • +2

Agreed 1080P on 27" these days is very sad to me as 27" 1440P IPS monitors were only $100 more than this 7 years ago and I've been using 2 ever since.
      e.g. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/152290

      • Except some or most of those low end 1440p monitors can have low quality panels. The backlight uniformity, mask, design makes you feel those are second grade IPS panels. Decent ones cost more. Let's not recommend people getting a monitor without HDMI port nowadays.

Also, if you have older PCs, you often need a BIOS update to work properly (otherwise the BIOS and UEFI initial boot screen can look a bit odd).

Sure, 1080p 27 inch monitors aren't for everyone. However, you have least compatibility issue with 1080p and these panels have reached mature state the quality is good. You can go for 1440p or better, but get a decent one and forget about cheap 1440p 27 inch monitors.

        • Actually these were the same LG panels used in the $3000 imacs at the time, just with a slight issue that caused them not to be rated a+ (mine had a bit of dust behind the glass you can't see when it's on) Yes the build quality and therefore backlight bleeding can be pretty bad, but considering the price for that tech at the time it was amazing.

I agree I wouldn't recommend them these days as modern GPUs don't have DVI ports and adaptors for them suck, My main monitor is now an acer XF750hu, my point was that 1440P has been around for a long time now and really should be standard for this size screen by now.

  • +4

Good monitor. Looking at 2 of them now.

  • Seems decent from reviews and for the price. This OK for work (nothing memory intensive) and casual PS4 FPS gaming?

    • For PS4 gaming it's fine, but I wouldn't want to use it for work. 1080p make everything on the screen too big and bunched up. I prefer more room on my screen, hence would never go anything smaller than 1440p for laptop/desktop use.

      • Lol is it a crime that I run 1080p with 125% scaling?

        • +15

          straight to jail

          • @wizedz: This is what it looks like, mind you I'm on a 24" monitor.

          • +1

@wizedz: Do not pass go, do not collect $200

        • Is it your monitor or your computer that handles the upscaling?

          • @PleasureMe: Windows. Scaling is so crappy with some programs.

        • Lol, I run 100% scaling on my 14" X1 Carbon with a 1080P panel :)

I've gotten used to it tho, and the extra content on the screen is a major plus for someone with 20/20 vision lol

          • @Zackeroo: I'm shortsighted but I wear glasses. I can definitely see everything it's just weird, too small for my liking.

            • @Void: I thought that originally, but I learnt to favour the additional details, and now I find anything above 125% disproportional

      • Thanks. I am running at 1080p on a Viewsonic VX3276 at the moment and it seems fine, but that may just because I'm used to it/don't know any better!

        • +3

So basically I went to the register product warranty Here and I put in the receipt and the purchase date with the serial number and signed into my samsung account and it is registered Screenshot here, Hope this helps, any other questions, feel free to ask

          • @jayboi: Thank you so much. And it’s 3 years right?

            • +1

@ashftc: Yes, even Samsung said that in their listing of this monitor

  • +4

I've got this monitor, it's fine for working, can comfortably fit two windows side by side and the text is not too large or too small. However I can understand some people wanting to go QHD/1440p as the icons etc might be a touch too big for them.

Haven't done any gaming or anything but movies/netflix looks great!

  • Should be $169. Sammy had the $50 newsletter discount code for xxx spend not long ago

    • Its expired and this is the cheapest I could find since

      • I wish I had signed up back then. doh!

  • 1-2 months?

  • Anyone know of a 27" or larger monitor with 2k or 4k for under $300? If I can't find one, I might get this one.

    • nop

    • K*gan.

    • -1

Not really now given that everyone wants one now, I would highly recommend you to this one as it is nice quality and it is $80 under your budget at least you will get good use out of it and colours on this is really good and accurate due to it being an IPS monitor.

    • Samsung LU28E590 from Officeworks, price match Bing Lee would be $426.

Doubt you'll do much better short of waiting for a sale.

  • +4

    My 2 cents!
After upgrading to an USB-C monitor (Dell P2419HC) in July I'll never go back to a non USB-C monitor.

With USB-C monitor I got rid of the power board and all 4x chargers connected to it. Desktop is clutter free! I even have a spare wall socket. Every device including laptop, phone, watch, calculator charges from monitor! The monitor even has daisy chain display port if I ever needed to add a 2nd monitor.

    • Thanks for sharing your exp . Little more detail will help .

I can understand that keyboard and mouse can connect with extra usb ports in monitor but how are you charging laptop via monitor ? Are you using usb c to connect to monitor and that acts as a display and charging both ?

      • +1

That would be correct. USB-C cable with PD from the monitor to a usb-c laptop.

  • +7

This screen works well for monitoring ozbargain every ten seconds whilst working from home

That was the $50 a while back with $200 minimum spend, Now they made it $350 minimum spend on the new ones and not everyone is a student anyway and can't get access to a $200 min spend coupon because they made the new ones $350

      • Yes, I had code from previous signup didn't realise they changed the minimum spend. Still a good deal for any student here.

    https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/led-sf350/LS27F350FHEXXY…

Amazon says 75Hz refresh rate, while Samsung details page says 60Hz. what is it really? Is Samsung wrong and it's actually 75Hz? Or is it 60Hz really and we should take Amazon to cleaners.

    • That monitor doesn't look the same, its black, this one is silver, not to mention the wrong model no. SR and SF

      https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/sr35/LS27R350FHEXXY/

      • see below, Amazon listing actually lists both different models, I am not sure which one you are getting. My link is to a model that is also in the Amazon listing name.

Amazon listing says: "Samsung 27" LED Monitor S27F350FHE, 27, LS27R350FHEXXY"

S27F350FHE and LS27R350FHEXXY are different models indeed, so I am not wrong here

    • That isn’t even the same monitor!! It is SR350 not SF350!! I can confirm this is 75hz I am using it right now and the monitor settings says 75hz as well as my MacBook says it is 75hz and you feel a difference and it’s really responsive. And all works like a dream.
This is the link to this one, https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/sr35/LS27R350FHEXXY/

      • now hold your horses Boi, the Amazon listing you linked is calling the item "Samsung 27" LED Monitor S27F350FHE, 27, LS27R350FHEXXY"

S27F350FHE and LS27R350FHEXXY are actually different models, so Amazon listing is messed up. I just took the first model number off that name "S27F350FHE" and looked it up, and that's the link I posted.

        • you hold your horses, I bought this monitor from this exact listing and I received it and I can confirm it is a SR350, I searched up the model number and this is 75Hz

          • @jayboi: well don't be surprised then that I am questioning the model, since it's the first one in Amazon listing name.

        • Yeah ok, i see your point. Amazon have listed both models in the description but if you look at the technical details it lists the correct model no.

          Item Model Number LS27R350FHEXXY

      • Can you tell the difference between 60 and 75hz. or have a 120hz monitor to compare?

  • Month+ delivery, darn.

  • +2

Looks like the monitor is now out of stock, anyone manage to get it?
