Hey OP, Just remember to put the store in the title for this post and for future posts. Just put @(Insert store here) or for this post just put @Bunnings in the title and if there is delivery available, Put +Delivery or if delivery is free, put Delivered right after the price
    EDIT: Mods already fixed it

  • what is the normal price

  • +19

Not sure what the bargain here is

  • +2

    Isn't this the regular price?

    • +4

      Bargain ≠ discount

  • +5

For the price, it's okay. It's just standard price or $13.50 with power pass. It's flimsy, so i wouldn't actually put 50kg on each shelf as it won't stay up straight.

    • +10

As far as “shelves per dollar” it’s the best value, but that’s because it’s nowhere near assembled when you get it. The damned thing has 50+ bolts and nuts - must have taken about an hour to assemble and I’m pretty handy.

      • +7

Yep I'm an assembler and can say this is the most time intensive model out there. If you don't mind the hassle of assembling definitely go for it but mount the unit to the wall to help against warpage.

      • +3

Just took one apart to bin. Used it for a couple years but really have to load it carefully. Not worth the effort anymore and took just as long to disassemble.

    • +7

Be very careful with this one. The edges are sharp. I have cut my finger before. Assembling is tedious. Ikea shelf @ $18 is a much better value.

    • Agree, I have one of these and flimsy is the best way to describe it. I tightened it recently (after a few years) and it still wobbles. don't put anything heavy, delicate or valuable on it.

      Wouldn't buy another one

  • +2

I think this is just a regular price .

  • No bargain here as this is the normal price. Main issue is actually finding one in stock.

  • +1

Pretty sure it's a normal price but rarely stocked or just sold out fast. It's flimsy, wouldn't put anything above 20kg on each of the shelf.

  • +7

    These are crap….

  • +1

Crappy shelves are falling down falling down falling down

  • +1

    A floppy for $14.

  • +6

    They ccollapse when you frown..

  • +1

SCA have exactly these too, i paid $12 but they are now $16 i think?

The quality is ok, but they have a zillion screws to do up, takes ages, IKEA style

  • +8

They're cheap and not that great but I bought about 10 of them for the garage and they're ok for general tidy up storage.

Don't put anything too valuable on them. I think this is the normal price. I used to buy the ikea version which appears to be better constructed but they went up from $9.95 to about $17 hence I tested these ones out and they were adequate.

    • These are fine for what they are - I used to have about a dozen, but replaced them with larger and sturdier units when I had the money. I sold them for about $5@ assembled.
As others have said, assembly takes a while and requires bandaids due to sharp edges.

  • +3

Sorry to say I have one of this and a $14 box of LEGO holds up more kg/scm than this pile of junk

  • +2

They are cheap and trash but they do actually hold a bit of weight and that’s all you can ask.

  • +2

Do not buy these, unless you want to spend hours putting on about 50+ bolts

    • +1

Agreed, it takes hours to put together

      • By hours you mean about 20 mins

  • +3

We have these in the garage for shoe storage. Works great as they’re a narrow enough to still fit in the cars.

  • +1

If these are anything like the ones at SCA, they take ages to put together and are flimsy af.

Do yourself a favour and get the heavy duty shelves.

    • Yes, very lightweight compared to industrial shelving, but at the comparative low price and depending on what they're to be used for, they probably still represent value in certain situations.

    • you probably forgot to tighten the bolts as well as using the brace..

I got heaps of SCA shelves and they aren't flimsy when all the bolts are tighten
I can even put heavy items on it and it is quite sturdy.

      • -2

Oh they're tight. Hand tightened first and then fully tightened once leveled out on floor (using diagonal pattern). Not my first rodeo.

Not the most fun assembling either when you're dealing with about 100 tiny 8mm screw nuts for each unit!

        • I have assembled heaps of SCA shelves and they aren't flimsy at all after everything is full tighten..

i have fill one of my shelves from top to bottom with heavy kitchen appliances and the shelves have remained sturdy
          and no shelf have bent..

not sure what you mean by flimsy
based on my own experience they are quite strong consider how light the entire shelves is

  • +2

i have x2 of the SCA version. yes plenty of nuts and bolts but putting it together was ok and took me about 40mins?
assemble it loosely and when stood upright you can get the levels perfect and tighten it up.

not flimsy by any means once its leveled and tightened up properly.

perfect for storing light items, hasn't let me down.

    • +2

Totally agree - if assembled properly with the bracing it's quite sturdy. Also agree that the number of nuts and bolts is a pain!

    • I i have fill one of my SCA shelves from top to bottom with heavy kitchen appliances and the shelves have remained sturdy
      and no shelf have bent..

I have done heaps of SCA shelves and they have all remain sturdy considering how light it is..

  • this isnt a deal, its regular price.
don't put anything heavy on it, it will collapse.
be careful of the edges so you don't get cut.

    • +1

      This isn't OzDeal; it's OzBargain.

Something can be a real bargain, even if not discounted, i.e. at its regular price. E.g., I reckon Xiaomi phones are a real bargain—comparing to the competition—even at their regular price.

  • 50kg per shelf is a lie, I have one of these in the garage and had a 15kg tv on one shelf and it bowed in 24 hours.

    • That was helpful - I wasn't sure what to make of everyone else saying they're flimsy as I was thinking it would be good to stack various boxes of junk (eg baby clothes/towels/etc), but they may cause the thing to collapse! Thanks.

      • +1

you should buy one from SCA and test yourself rather than just trusting what a few people say..

I got the cheap SCA shelves and I fill all the shelves with kitchen appliances and the shelves have remain sturdy.

  • Lulz at the photo of the product. Shows how filmsy it is.

  • +1

I have about 15 of these all around my garage. Paid less than $10 each about 5 years ago.
They do a good job for me.

  • +3

Anyone noticed that a lot less bargains now?

    • -1

Yep. It's easier for the mods to tag as long running than actually make a decision.

      • Long running sounds about right. Something can be a bargain even at its regular price.

        • Just like every aldi catalogue that gets posted here?

  • +4

If anyone buys this (I bought like 6 of them some years ago) they are time consuming to put together. LOTS of nuts and bolts. A handy hint when putting it together is NOT to tighten any nuts until you have put the whole thing together. It will end up looking like the leaning tower of Pisa but thats ok. At that point you can straighten things and start tightening the nuts. I recommend a power tool or you will go NUTS! ;)

    • Also once you have completed assembly try not to pick it up by the shelves, instead pick it up by the legs. The shelves can easily bend by its self weight.

      • considering how sharp the edges are and how small the legs are
this is not a smart idea.

it is better to put two hands underneath a shelve and lift it
that way your hands never needs to grab/touch and sharp edges..

the edge of the entire shelf is quite light so not hard to lift it up

And no, these shelf don't bend that easily just from lifting it up.

I have a heap of the SCA shelves and they have been quite sturdy/strong considering how light they are..

  • +1

    Not really a bargain

Yet was posted on a bargain site and currently has 50+ votes.

I have this and like others have said it's not easy to put together and is very flimsy. $14.50 is expensive for this.

  • +4

    Not really a bargain

Perhaps you may have better luck posting on OzNotReallyABargain

  • +1

    No bargain here

  • +1

This is a regular price, and they are terrible, absolutely terrible.

When assembling ensure that you have work gloves on as none of the edges are relieved, just bare stamped metal.

When using make sure dont put anything heavier than 10kg or so on there. A 5L bucket of paint buckled the bottom shelf on the last one we had.

  • +3

These are crap… Then there's the thousand cuts you get assembling them. Wouldn't pick these up off the roadside for free..

    • I have seen plenty on road side junk piles lol

  • I'm in Melbourne. Are the stores open.

    • Click and collect from your car only.

  • +1

These are trash. Scrap metal value only.

    • So about 36 cents then.

  • +3

Why not pay a bit more and get this from IKEA?

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/hyllis-shelving-unit-in-outdoor…

    • From memory, when I compared the two and picked the Bunnings one, the IKEA one has narrower shelves, and don't hold as much weight. Also, IKEA is much further away from me than Bunnings (1h vs 10 mins).

  • I've got two of these. It's a bit fiddly to put together, but it's an hour tops to put together. They definitely feel little flimsy (which you'll expect at the price), so I wouldn't test the load capacity, but it's fine for just storing bits and pieces in the garage.

  • This is flimsy, but if you screw them together, and have L shaped corners etc, it’s very sturdy. I have like 15 connected to each other that runs around the wall garden shed and it’s not moving …
But that is just the normal price.

  • I have two of those for holding toys, and reckon they ARE a bargain. There are no other alternatives on IKEA or even eBay running for less than $40-50

People seem to mistake "bargain" for discount on this site. And are made complete fools by posting and voting Colesworths' rotating half price discounts as bargains, and this one not. Bunnings' sturdy umbrella regularly priced at $10-12 is also a bargain, even if not "discounted."

    • bargain noun. an advantageous purchase, especially one acquired at less than the usual cost

You might be confusing bargain with good value

      • +2

It all depends on how you define "usual." If you define it only through time for that particular product or service, and not in comparison to competing alternatives, then a long running bargain, as this post's tag indicates, would be a contradiction of terms. It isn't.

  • I have these in my garage. cant really store heavy items on these. its ok to store small items. Im looking to upgrade

  • +1

    not bargain and garbage

    • +1

Have to agree, it so wobbly it feel it going fall apart.

      • I have around 20 of these stacked 1 and 1/2 on top to make around 1.9m tall. Few screws to back wall and they are very sturdy, strong and great value. I love these.

  • +4

It would be nice if people who shoot down a post as "not a deal" respond could with a similar item that is better in some way i.e. cheaper, more reliable etc.

    • +3

Surprised that this comment gets buried with no upvotes.

I was going to make the same comment. To those keyboard warriors, please share a link that depicts a similar product, with similar load capacity, at a similar price?

At best, it seems that the Ikea outdoor shelf remain the only contender. Another past contender was the recent ALDI offering, even so, it was priced at $34.99?? And after visiting 5-6 ALDI stores, I got told that they were so sought after, it sold out within 1-2 days.

Shame that so many people got so narrow minded and dissed this post. They must've gotten too comfortable with the colesworth half price "bargains".

      • Thank you, you were able to articulate my point much better than I could.

  • Was $9.50 before

  • +1

Has anyone else noticed that Bunnings have increased prices of goods for select items recently? Taking advantage of home improvement boom due to isolation perhaps?

  • This post reminded me that I needed something like this. I've ended up going with a different shelf for $39 which seems a lot sturdier and can handle 160kg per shelf. Quick paint job should make it look alright too.

    Bunnings - Pinnacle 1500x810x310mm - 4 shelf unit

    • no such thing as a quick paint job on metal mate. unless you are happy looking like a toddlers painting

  • Does anyone know where to get a bag of nuts and bolts for this type of racking? I'm trying to make mine rigid with more bolts but I'm quickly running out!

    • +1

      er…. bunnings

    • +1

At this price you'd be better off just getting another shelf just for the bolts. Would end up costing not much more.

  • i bought these about 3 months ago for $12.50 each and yes got some a few years back for $10 too so $14 is … meh

  • -1

When start the post with….."Not really a bargain but" hahahaha

I hate, hate, HATE these crappy shelves

    They are the devil

  • These are hot garbage, I literally gave mine away because they were so bad.

    • I have around 20 of these stacked 1 and 1/2 on top to make around 1.9m tall. Few screws to back wall and they are very sturdy, strong and great value. I love these.

  • +2

Picked one up today. Impressive for $14! A little fiddly to put together (but not difficult). Thanks OP!

  • +1

I've got two of these. Getting a third now. Very good deal. Especially at this price. And that IKEA is 1h drive away. And that they're rated for higher weight and have deeper shelves too. Yes, they take some patience putting together, but many IKEA products do too.
