AirAsia AUD $150 (Inc Tax) Rescue Fares for Qantas Affected Passengers

1220

Hi all, just got this from AirAsia facebook site. Might be hard to get this deal, but kudos to AirAsia to at least giving options to Qantas affected travellers….

"Anyone holding a valid QF ticket to or from any of our AAX destinations (D7 flight code) for immediate travel can access our special rescue fare of AUD$150 (all inclusive) per sector outbound from Australia.

Simply arrive at any AAX airport with a hard copy of your valid Qantas ticket and if we have a seat available we will sell it to you for AU$ 150 per sector ex Australia.

For example it will be possible for passengers to reach destinations including London and Paris for $300 one way from Australia.

Please note that this is only for AAX (Flight code D7) destinations. Passengers can take advantage of booking other AirAsia low cost fares online at www.airasia.com to reach their onward destination.

Guests can arrive at the airport three hours before our scheduled departures and visit the service desk with their valid QF ticket to check availability and take advantage of the special fare" ..

MOD EDIT - Keep the discussion on topic - ie about this deal. Qantas Strike Discussions go into the forum where there is an existing thread. Hijacking a deal isnt nice

The whole Qantas debacle is extremely embarrassing. I just learned now that the entire airline has been grounded for 24 hours, both domestic and international. It's turned into a full blown crisis for the airline.

Well done to AirAsia and other carriers like Virgin who are doing their best to assist stranded passengers.

    I'm glad I'm no longer a Qantas shareholder…

    • +4

Its not grounded for 24 hours, it's grounded until further notice, by Joyce and the board. He's locking out the staff from Monday.

    • Nice one sided argument mate. Factually wrong as well. Stick to the bargain and stay out of politics.

  • +8

Please there is a healthy discussion forum topic to talk about Qantas and the unions put that there let your opinions be heard there freely.

Keep the discussion to the bargain offered here.

Congratulations to AirAsia for helping out, being stranded by any airline is rather distressing for any traveller.

Comments after this, will if, off topic - ie discuss the bargain be deleted.

    • +3

Why do you keep up a one sided, factually incorrect (I would strike if I worked for $90 per annum! lol), inflamatory comment, then allow support for that comment, but all other comments about that comment are deemed off-topic?? It would be better to just take it down. OzBargain surely is not the place for political debate. Try the numerous other forums for that.

This is a controversial dispute affecting many people. It is more complex than presented above as only one side in this dispute is at fault. There are vested interests, entrenched beliefs - BUT that has nothing to do with this deal.

Please remove ALL off-topic posts (probably including this one). Leaving the initial sal78 comment just invites off-topic rants.

Thanks Airasia and other airlines offering good deals rather than lining their pockets.

      • Why etc…Because I do sleep sometimes and have other things to do as well - LOL

Now anything (unless I missed it) that is off topic, timestamped after my post will go or has gone. (which is a little subjective)

Problem in your post is you have included remarks to some of the off topic comments. Now can that be construed as you trying to circumvent the off topic deletion? Ah maybe we will need a workplace tribunal to adjudicate…. LOL

        • +2

Hey - I think you do a good job, and deserve your sleep!

I totally agree, ideally all off-topic comments (like this which contribute nothing to discussing the deal) should be taken down, especially where they vere into an inflamitory topic. There is only the initial off-topic comment by sal78 remaining. If you took down the initial off topic comment, there would not be a need to take down the others commenting on that comment. That is what I have seen before on OzBargain. It can be infuriating for some to allow a comment on 1 side of an argument and then rule out any other comments.

Only trying to get some consistency & make your life easier! Certainly was not "trying to circumvent the off topic deletion", as I suggested to take down my comment. But it is best to have a sense of humour. Have you got the workplace tribunal's number? Thanks for your work. Your pay rise is in the mail!

Have removed all off topic comments, except some with mixed message originally posted.

And your extra posts where you yourself continue with off topic comments. However since you know clearly that this was not wanted in this thread, having posted already in the discussion forum the other actions have been taken

Other actions being taken with other mod off topic post also

  • i already bought the ticket with qantas, my flight is end of next month, reckon gonna be delayed?

yea gonna call the travel agency, and talk abt this. hope i can change to cathy pacific

        • Yes, better change or at lesat seek other options… Imagine IF and WHEN they do sort things out, what kind of backlog (or backlash :)) they'll be facing..

I myself actually am heading to Tassie in a couple of wks time with Jetstar.. fingers' and toes' crossed !!!

    • +1

      That's a month away….I wouldn't be worried….yet.

    • Highly doubt they'd still be grounded for another month, considering it's costing them $20mill a day that they're grounded. IMO everything will get back to normal by monday :)

      • +1

        Oh snap!

      • well predicted lol

    • Buy some travel insurance to cover yourself.

  • Jetstar aren't affected at this stage? Fingers crossed…

    • With you on this one… Hopefully NOT.

But good opportunity for other local budget airways to start plan an AirAsia-like attack (i.e. Tiger and esp Virgin) for domestic

But just wondering have anyone successfully got this offer yet? I believe AAX now charge $3 surcharge on over-the-counter chekin(??) .. hmmmm..

      • Yes $3 fee - but who would worry about that in this circumstance. Maybe AAX would waive it. People would be happy just to get a flight. I like the idea of Tiger clawing back its reputation after its prolonged grounding! LOL

      • Why would you check in at the counter when you can check in on-line or use the kiosk at the airport? I doubt AirAsia are collectng many lots of three dollars.

        • Um… the condition of THIS deal is you MUST check-in at the counter!

You need to show them you have a Qantas flight that is grounded. You can not do that online! It is in the description of this deal.
"Simply arrive at any AAX airport with a hard copy of your valid Qantas ticket and if we have a seat available we will sell it to you for AU$ 150 per sector ex Australia."

In normal circumstances, there would be little need to pay for check-in.

      • Doubt they would charge the extra $3 in this situation as it is a condition of the deal you need to use the manual check-in. Similar to people with special needs can use the phone booking system free with most discount airlines, as they can not do their booking online. And I think this situation would be covered under 'special needs'!

I wonder if travel insurance covers this

  • This is great move by airasia x they may not make anything financially but the PR is awesome I have them mentioned in every news bulletin, I have been stranded by qantas before and they were terrific they arranged can fares/hotel/meals. They even called to see I arrived ok at the hotel, obviously the size of this dispute it's not going to be able to help everyone.

    • +1

Yes, a great PR opportunity for airlines that are Qantas competitors.
But good to see the industry helping out. It will cover AAX taxes, so they won't lose money.

A 6 month old AirAsia plane had a mechanical problem at Gold Coast airport (discount airport with no real maintenance facilities for large jets). We were given vouchers after 2 hours delay & kept informed - well the plane was clearly being repaired a few metres away through the window, then more vouchers, before taken to a resort and given 2 $25 vouchers for dinner & breakfast. That issue can happen to any airline. But not bad on a $99 flight to KL last year! The price to London was only $650 + a few dollars for bags & food. So I like AirAsia.

No wonder Qantas is losing $200M a year on its international routes. But as people try other airlines, Qantas will lose more of its market share.

Have flown Air Asia many times and they are tops in my book! WTG Air Asia on helping out - and looking forward to my next flight with you next year.

good idea by AA to fill those empty seats at bargain prices. and build a good rep. nice business decision.

    • +1

AA = American airlines not AirAsia

      • +2

I'm too lazy to type AirAsia

        • +1

          I love irony too…

      • +2

AA = Alcoholics Anonymous, not American Airlines

  • +1

Since they're Qantas tickets, not AirAsia, I wonder if I could get away with printing up fake tickets and just going for the $150 airfare…

  • This is a good deed no matter how you look at it.
A great strategic move from AirAsia.
The air line may not make any money but this will buy them good P.R AND the appriciation the passengers who they rescued.

LOL…. Virgin Blue is doing the same.
They emailed me with the offer.

so does ppl get a refund for their non-flying Qantas tickets?
or are these ppl paying $150 on top of what they already paid.

kinds funny first half of this post is all red outted comments!

    • so does ppl get a refund for their non-flying Qantas tickets?

In most cases they should get something back. Depends on the conditions on the ticket eg full fare full change etc. Also if you have travel insurance you may be able to claim - check the wording on your policy.

or are these ppl paying $150 on top of what they already paid.

They are paying $150 on top, which is a lot cheaper than booking a new ticket with another airline.
