While this is a beautiful gesture why to the red cross? Haven't they scammed us badly over the last year?

    • +4

You mean their habit of putting money in the 'rainy day' fund and not into the actual fundraiser objective?

    • +9

Yeah I’ve been donating $20 to them every month for the past 5 years and they have the audacity to call me to donate more and I said I can’t donate any more because I’m saving up for a house then they try and give me the guilt trip of giving me some SOB story so I’ll give in. I didn’t.

      • +10

I can't be certain….but the cold callers/donation solicitors may be third party call centres that make commissions on donations….

        • +4

Yes, that's true. The people calling you are not actually aid workers, they're salespeople, hence the 'hard sell'.

      Hi there,
Thanks very much for your question. Our relationship and support of the Red Cross is a longstanding one - for almost a decade, we've chosen to support this cause as we've felt that they've been a noteworthy humanitarian organisation that has channelled significant efforts (including the generous time of their volunteers) into aiding the most vulnerable. As a socially conscious business that believes in giving back to the community, this has been important to us.
The volunteers on the ground are working tirelessly to provide support - be it financial, mental health/emotional, telephone and more - and advocating for more of this is what drives our intentions here.

You're welcome to read a little further into the Red Cross' Covid-19 response via the link below if you get a chance:
      https://www.redcross.org.au/stories/covid-19/our-response-to…

Though donating to Red Cross certainly isn't obligatory - we definitely encourage you to alternatively donate directly to a charity or organisation of your choosing if preferred. We care about the bigger picture and supporting all worthy causes at the end of the day.

Hopefully this helps to clarify, and best regards,
      -Elite Electronics Team-

Wasn't meant as criticism, just curiosity. It's a honourable thing to do and most definitely appreciated

        • No worries at all - we always welcome any questions or concerns, and are happy to be kept on our toes (we appreciate all the exercise we can get currently!). :P

          Best regards,
          -Elite Electronics Team-

  • So do we just donate and it gives us the discount code automatically?

    • Hi there,
Essentially yes - once you make your donation via the link to our fundraiser page below, your discount coupon will be emailed to you within 24 hours of your donation.

      https://www.elite-electronics.com.au/Fundraiser

We hope this helps, and best regards,
      -Elite Electronics Team-

      • Cheers. Is donation only by PayPal? I can't see a card option there.

        • +1

You definitely don't need a PayPal account to donate - if you click on the 'Donate with PayPal' button on our fundraiser page, the following screen gives you the option to 'Donate with a Card', so you can simply select this method instead.

Hopefully this helps, and kind regards,

  • Most items in store seem over priced or is it just me?

    • Hey there,
We're not certain which product/s you might be referring to, but our prices are generally considered to be very competitive, and we offer free shipping on most of the wide and ever-expanding range that we stock.
Though again, this is less about us, and more about donating to a worthy cause - whichever charity/organisation you choose to contribute to. :)

      Best regards,
      -Elite Electronics Team-

    • well they do include shipping on most products, maybe that's why?

“We're a resilient bunch us Aussies”

So is every other country in the world…

    • +3

Absolutely - we couldn't agree with you more. We meant no offence with our introductory turn of phrase. We can only appeal to our local demographic, which is all we were trying to do.

We genuinely hope that all businesses globally are engaging with their local communities and encouraging people to support those in need, in any capacity that they can.

      Kind regards,

  • Hi Rep, any chance of getting this back in stock? Cheers.

We've love to help out with this one, though this model is no longer available from our supplier, so we aren't able to get our hands on any new stock unfortunately.
Though let us know which speakers or subwoofer you're looking to power, and we'll be happy to help with some alternative options if you like.

Every little thing wrong in your world is caused by electricity privatisation, isn't it?

    • Huh?

  • -2

So this shop is paying Paypal 2.9% + 30c per donation, then (allegedly) passing on the donation to the Red Cross, and then claiming the full donation amount as a tax deduction?

For a $5 donation that means they are paying 44.5c to Paypal to receive it. On the donation side they can then claim a tax deduction for $5, at the company tax rate that's effectively reducing their tax payable by $1.50.

So now they are ahead by $1.05.

They then give away a $15 voucher which is hard to put a value on but let's say they run at 5% margin - making the voucher worth $14.25. Less the $1.05 and we're at $13.20.

So they are paying $13.20 per customer that takes up this offer. I wonder how that compares to other marketing strategies…

      Hey there,
We commend you for being concerned about the legitimacy of charitable donations, though we can assure you that our intentions are genuine, and we don't end up financially better off because of this - quite the contrary actually, especially on lower value items.

We've clarified this further in a similar post, which we've provided a link to below for your reference, so hopefully this helps shed a little further light:

    • Depends how it is set up, but I didn't think PayPal charged fees for donations

  • +1

I wouldn't donate to Australian Red Cross.

    • We definitely appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. As we mentioned earlier, donating to Red Cross isn't mandatory - any and all donations to causes/organisations that you deem worthy or prefer are encouraged.

      Best regards,
      -Elite Electronics Team-

  • Why doesn't this company just donate to Red Cross directly?

    • +5

      Hi there,
We most certainly do - as mentioned in the original post, we make our own $1,000 contribution, and combine that with any customer donations that we receive throughout the month. It all gets sent in one lump sum to the Red Cross at the end of the month.
This is our gesture of goodwill which we combine with customer contributions, and we offer a small token of our appreciation to customers who elect to partake by way of a discount coupon to say thank-you.

We hope this helps to clarify, and best regards,
      -Elite Electronics Team-

I'm all on-board with the charity and support it fully. However, this being a deals website, I'm gonna have to pull a jb here and ask, "Any Bargains?"

Donate $5 or more to Red Cross via our website and receive a $10 $15 discount coupon,
Donate $15 or more to Red Cross via our website and receive a $20 $30 discount coupon.

It's basically a bargain of either $10 or $15 discount for your purchase, so yea why not? (didn't neg you btw)

I've previously purchased something from them via their eBay store front (around June this year?). The order was processed and dispatched fairly quickly.

Thanks for encouraging generosity in your post OP =)

  • Haha, definitely - we ALWAYS have bargains on offer. :D
Anything in particular that might tickle your fancy? Let us know and we'll be happy to point you in a more specific direction. :)

  • What’s typical postage cost for a low cost $15 to $30 item?

    • +2

      Typical postage cost Australia-wide = $0. :)

We offer free standard postage on the majority of our range (the only exceptions being particularly large or bulky items such as home theatre systems or subwoofer enclosures.) Most other items, regardless of cost, are generally offered with free standard shipping.

We hope this helps, and best regards,

Thanks, great program. Just received the coupon an hour after donating. Looks like there's some decent dashcams for sale, not sure which one to get though.

    • Hey there,
Thanks for your feedback and for getting involved. :)
We stock a pretty wide range of dash cams, from the more budget-friendly to the higher-end of the spectrum. Feel free to let us know what your particular requirements are (or get in touch directly if you prefer), and we'll be happy to make some recommendations.

My 2 cents, this business is offering you a store credit to purchase from their shop if you donate. It's your choice if you want to or not but it feels like they keep having to justify why they do it.
People are questioning whether they pass on the donations to the Red Cross or not. If they really wanted to scam anyone, wouldn't they offer a large amounts of credit to entice people to donate?

I had a look at some their products and found the Havit MP858 RGB Backlit Extended Gaming Mouse Pad, donated to get $30 credit and brought the product.

I thought it was a good deal since it was already discounted prior to the extra $30 credit. Thanks Elite Electronics! Everyone wins, IMO (Red Cross get some donation, I get a cheaper product, the business get some cashflow even if there's probably isn't a lot of profit margin left for them.

I feel that sometimes these sort of comments and reactions stops businesses from sharing their deal in this forum for fear of backlash.

    • +1

I've only seen one person(to my knowledge) that 'questioned' if they passed on donations and the vote tally as of this post is 83+.

I feel the majority has been pretty receptive of the deal as it has been presented (Donate and get a decent discount).

Some may have been more critical of the Red Cross as an organisation, but nobody has actually negged the deal(The comments are here to discuss it after all :) ).

As for getting a deal or good price that's subjective as no example's were posted in the store's post. You found a deal in a mouse, I found a deal in a cpu cooler and another ozbargainer is hunting for a dashcam….. I think we have been quite amicable so far in this post :P

      • +3

You made a fair point. I saw Elite Electronics made some efforts to reply to a lot of the comments so good on them!

    • +4

Thanks for taking the time to offer your feedback duckie - we take this as encouragement really. We sleep soundly in the knowledge that our intentions and actions are honourable. And whilst it's not always easy to sway the few that (for good reason) might on first glance believe otherwise, we definitely understand that everyone's heart is in the right place when raising concerns. It holds businesses accountable, as they should be.
We've always been happy to answer any questions with relation to our Red Cross fundraiser, as we are genuine and transparent about it.

RE your MP858 RGB mouse pad order - Received. :)
We'll get this on its way to you tomorrow, so you'll receive the tracking details via email tomorrow afternoon. You'll be disco-ing at your desk in no time. :D

      Thanks again, and best regards,

I just want to stick up for the Red Cross and their actions after the devastating Bush fires last summer.
Alot of people have been criticizing the Red Cross for holding onto donation money and not helping those in need.
Personally that has not been my experience.

Being one of the unlucky ones that lost everything (House, Vehicles, Livelihood and everything I own) on the 8th of November 2019 in the community of Wytaliba, I am thankful I was able to escape with my Mother and Pets alive. All I had left was literally the RFS uniform I was wearing. Everything I had worked for all my life laid in ashes within hours of a fire storm hitting our community.

But within days after the fire, The Red Cross was able to help us with immediate needs like, Food, Water, Clothing and a place to stay e.t.c
Shortly after that they were offering grants to help people get back on their feet. Initially the monetary offerings were small but as more donations
came flooding in from the public they increased the grants available. To date I have received $50,000 from the Red Cross which is able to help me rebuild a new and safer home for my family. The Grant process was easy and the least stressful of all the help that was on offer (From other charities as well as the Government).

Compare this to the Government which denied my Grant application due to having more than $10,000 in the bank. Or the Salvation Army who offered only
$1,000 in the early days after the fire and only 9 months later are offering $7,500 after all the criticism they have received from the public. Their process is also a nightmare and adds to the stress we have already endured.

So in my experience the Red Cross have been wonderful with all the help they have provided in a timely fashion.
In the future when I am able to do so, I will be donating to the Red Cross.

    • +4

No no, you are supposed to hate the red cross because they have expenses.

Their accountants, marketing and HR people are supposed to work for free, and pay for building costs and advertising expenses out of the employees pockets.

Any business that had 85% return would be amazing, but if the Red Cross spends 15% on administration costs it is absolutely disgusting and clearly mismanagement and graft.

Thanks so much for sharing your story - we really appreciate you taking the time to write such a moving and heartfelt response. This absolutely reinforces our feelings on the matter also, and drives us to continue supporting the wonderful people that contribute to making others' lives that little bit easier.
Thanks again immensely for your input, and all the best to you and your family.

  • I just wanted to say thank you to Elite Electronics for providing me with my Alpine Type-R Subwoofer and Amp in my teenage years, it still works to this day. (They're now over 8 years old)

    • We're more than happy to have had a hand in providing 8+ solid years of low-end happiness for you. Your neighbours quite possibly loathe us, but we've resigned ourselves to the fact that you can't please everyone unfortunately.. :-P

In all seriousness though, thanks very much for the kind words, and feel free to reach out if we can help with anything at all in the future. :)
