    • I need the link too pls

    • Yes please :D

  • Open a Chat Window with Optus

I was told it is still available and sent a link

    Purchased! :D

  • Is this worth it over the Omnia 7 and Milestone 2 https://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephone/clearance ? You can get them free on the $29 plan for 12 months (ends up costing $348 with a year of service vs $269.10 + $120 for service)

    • Those are excellent deals, and the included credit really makes them stand out.

I'm not too sure about how those handsets are though, can anyone comment? Better or worse than the Incredible S?

      • with my opinion htc incredible s is better

i havent used Omina 7 but i used milestone before

        :)))

    • Depends what you're after, i'd take Android 2.3.3 over Windows Phone 7 at this stage, plus an 8mp camera vs 5mp in the Omnia..and no front camera on the Omnia either. But if you want a cheap Win 7 phone i'm sure it'd do. Comparison here: http://bigphonefight.com/samsung-omnia-7-16gb-vs-htc-incredi…

The Incredible S wins. Plus I needed prepaid so i could put the TPG SIM in it. No use buying an Omnia or Milestone on a 12 month plan when I don't want the plan.

  • any idea about getting insurance on these phones ? is it worth it ?
coz if you click the link about insurance, it says that it can only be done at time of purchase ..

    • +1

Check whether your credit card offers warranty on electronic purchases first.
Also, may be cheaper to get it covered under some home contents insurance options.

    • +1

      Dup.

  • can anyone recommend me some good ROMS for this :D

    found these lists:
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136463

    might give CyanogenMod a go.
    Anyone using anything else?

    Cheers

Can someone who owns one of these tell me if it has a forward facing camera ?

    • it has 2nd camera :)))

    • Yes it does

  • I assume this is 900 band 3G so no Nextg ?

    • +10

Just was looking over at whirlpool and found this post- Anyone vouch for correctness ?

I think I am correct in stating that on the Android phones you are able to set the radio bands to the following settings. Euro Band, USA Band, Japan Band, Aus Band and Aus2 Band which is nextG. So why do sales crapola continually say phone only for 3G or NextG?

On your android phone menu type ##4636##, this will take you a menu, select phone inormation. When in this menu find the menu key and press that then select radio band. Hey presto a HTC Desire a8183 Telstra branded can become a HTC Desire A8181 by changing the Radio band.

Hope some one finds this useful to change carriers to get the best service in ones area.

      Works on later phones too!

      • +1

this is amazing. Best and most useful comment of all time.

      • +1

        Correction: It's *#*#4636#*#*.

        • that is awesome! the menu works on my LG 2X too..

but even if there's a menu.. does it really change the hardware frequencies?

could you please link to the wp thread too?

      • I don't think it works, as the phones apparently don't have the necessary hardware frequency.
I'll happily be proved wrong but when I was following the whirlpool htc incredible S threads someone said they tried in on a HTC Incredible and the phone reported a change, but couldn't connect.
        http://whrl.pl/RcNdMj
and the original post on this on the thread
        http://whrl.pl/RcMYzY
So if anyone has an unlocked HTC Incredible S and can test this out properly, I'll really love to know.

      • +2

This does not work. The network bands are set in hardware, not software.

Unsure why you have gotten so many positive votes for spreading misinformation and potentially costing people wanting to use NextG on a YesG phone (or vice versa) quite a bit of money.

        • Ok sorry if it may not work BUT as stated in my post "Anyone vouch for correctness ?"
          on the first line !

Here is the link to the whirlpool post

          http://whrl.pl/RcMV5N

I think your comment is a bit extreme xyron…considering i had stated that disclaimer.

        • +1

Easy on him, xyron, he did qualify it, and there are many who just get soooo excited when they can hack their phone, they just vote without checking first

      • It works! I've just swapped out my telstra sim from a 'friends & family offer' htc desire (which was supposedly hardware limited to telstra freqs), changed the band to AUS and have successfully dialed/sms'd out!

        • Just to confirm - the box the phone came in is branded HTC Desire A8183 + has the Telstra Next G logo on it etc. However the specs on the box list the 850/900/1800/1900 freqs… but changing the band is what was needed as I've tried the same TPG sim before and couldn't get a signal.

  • Sorry if this is a stupid question.. If I use the htcimeiunlock website to unlock it..Will I still have the warranty from optus? thanks in advance

    • +1

Unlocking a phone will not affect its warranty. Rooting a phone and being unable to re-flash its ROM back to the OEM's firmware when presenting it for repair will void the warranty.

      • +1

While on the subject of rooting, this one looks fairly easy to root with http://revolutionary.io/
which supports the incredible s. Have tried this method with my old school Desire and it was very simple.

Regarding warranty, just flash back the Optus RUU if you ever have to send your phone in :)

        • +1

At the moment there's no way to root the Incredible S that comes with the newer HBOOT.

        • Your right, it would seem this phone would most likely come with HBOOT 1.16.0000 whereas the revolutionary s-off method currently supports only 1.09.0000 and 1.13.0000.

Oh well, was considering getting this phone to flash CM7 (not a fan of sense) but I probably won't bother now.

        • Anyone able to confirm these come with HBOOT 1.16?

Anyway, apparently S-OFF is not necessary to flash CM7, just the HTC Unlock (providing it returns an OEM identifier.)

          http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18422932

        • Keep in mind you can't go back to the stock rom with that method.

  • Sorry for the late reply, just got back from work.
Apologies for those that asked me for a link. The deal is back on optus website anyway.

  • Can this phone be use with Telstra NextG after unlocked?

    • No, it has no 850mhz WCDMA band.

  • Once unlocked, this phone should work on 3/vodaphone Nw yeah?

    • Yes, it would be suitable for those networks.

    • no. The vodafone new network is 850 and this does not support that.

      • So? It will still work on the existing 900/2100 network.

        • yes, it sure will work on the 900/2100 network.
But For vodafone, it needs to be unlocked first.

  • +1

I ordered one yesterday and recieved today. Great Post. Thanks Ken

  • may i ask, does this one from Optus has Traditional Chinese language?

    thanks a lot

    • I would like to know this as well :) anyone?

      • no, English only from language selection in Setting menu.

        • but can it read chinese? doesn't matter if it can't write .. xD Sorry but just want to find out before i go for it zZ Dont worry if you can't read chinese =P

        • Oh.. just English only… I thought it would have TC support like the one I got from voda before.

Thanks for your information. Really appreciate it.

      • yes, I was able to open email in Chinese, also the phone is able to display Chinese characters when on Chinese websites.

  • I was just thinking, wouldn't rooting+changing rom on the phone unlock it? I've had 2 android phones, one from Telstra (plan) and one from Vodafone (Plan), both have been rooted/had the rom changed.. They all work with any carrier.

I'm assuming the lock is a software one, not external on the IMEI or whatever..?

  • If you activate the pre-paid sim that comes with the phone, do you have to put credit on it?

If so it may be cheaper getting an unlock code from http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/

    • Most starter sims are 30 day expiry. $80 worth of recharging gets you free unlock. Even if you spend $30 on a 6 month long term recharge, you'll have to wait 6 months.

  • anyone use this mob for free unlocking?

    http://www.freeg1unlockcodes.com/

  • I bought one of these last Monday (Oct 31), it got delivered (i'm in Melb) on Wednesday, despite Tuesday being Melb Cup Day!

My post-paid TPG SIM works perfectly in it…although not after a scare…I couldn't work out why the SIM wouldn't get a signal, turns out the phone doesn't work if you leave the back cover off, 'coz the antenna is built into the back cover. There's a couple of metal connectors on the bottom of the cover that provide the connection when you click it back on.

Ripping phone, Android 2.3.3 already on it, obviously all the Optus crapware, but you could always root it.

  • What's the quality of the loudspeaker like?

I have a HTC Desire,it sounds tinny and breaks up when you turn up the volume.Very cheap.

The iphone 3gs has a much better loudspeaker and it's not on the back of the phone.I don't even like iphones but their build quality leaves HTC for dead.

    • Only really fair to compare the build quality of the two if you can find an prepaid iphone for a similar price though, no?

My BMW M5 is heaps better than my Hyundai Excel, but I wouldn't compare em!

      • I guess my point is if you were considering this and you use the loudspeaker a lot and want a quality phone maybe look at a 2nd hand 3gs on ebay.

I know this has a better camera and heaps of other features, but i mainly buy a phone to use as a phone.

        • Yep fair enough. I just tried some of the music that came with the phone, on loudspeaker, and it seems fine to me. Well, as good as you could expect from a phone speaker. Turned on the "SRS Enhancement" and it even gets a bit of depth and bass.

Certainly no break up when turned up on full. Speaker is on the back of the phone, but I have it lying down on the table in front of me, with the speaker facing down, and it still sounds pretty good.

  • has anyone tried
    http://www.mobileunlockstore.com/ ???
    or
    http://www.wirelessunlocking.com
    its like $6.99 - $8.99 to unlock !

    • Just make sure you have a credit card linked to your paypal account, and choose to pay with credit card once in Paypal. That way, if anything goes wrong and the unlock doesn't work as promised, you simply challenge the transaction with your bank, and they'll cancel it for you. With no signature as proof of payment, and only $7 on the line, no way would the unlock company pursue it.

    • They may not work all the time. I have tried for my old SE w890 which locked to voda, they couldnt unlock that for me…. :-(

      • do they refund your money ?

  • So have anyone rooted and flashed it with custom rom?

  • +1

do they send you an sms or send you an e-mail when the phone is being dispatched?

    • +1

i ordered mine on friday and hear nothing from them until now.

      • same here.. ordered on friday.

          still waiting since friday.

        • me too

  • Ah noooo! Sold out again! And I was just about to buy it last night and then though: "Naa, it's late, I'll do it tomorrow." :(

Anyone in Melbourne ordered one which they don't want?

    http://optus.messengerpostcouriers.com.au/
But when i try to track my order i get.
    Order Confirmation Number not found

    and ordered since friday.

    (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

also sad news but doesn't seem that this phone will be getting ICS. ( ;´Д`)

    link

Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound*, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G* and HTC Amaze 4G* through close integration with our carrier partners.

    • my friend ordered from last wednesd

she just received 2 email said order was delayed
      wth
      :))

even HTC will not provide Ice Cream Sandwich to Incredible S
we still hope from Custom Room maker

      :))

    • +1

Well hopefully it should come in soon. In regards to your comment on ICS, the link only specifies those as:

      Quote:
"the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades" and that "We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich."

So it's still up in the air for the time being, but it's most likely going to receive ICS considering the specs and how it's relatively recent.

    • Call Optus and check on it- I did not receive any update following the "order confirmation" email and when I rang it turned out they had cancelled my order (apparently they call to verify every credit card order, and as they didn't reach me on my mobile they just cancelled it!)

Of course, when I went back to re-order, it was no longer available!

      • i did not receive any call from them. I got the email saying that my order is delayed and also they already charged my credit card also…

so i hope it will come soon. or give me a HTC sensation for the same price :) jk.

      • Hmm will try to call them. They did rang me and i verified my credit card order with them.
but haven't heard from them since.

        edit:
optus said that there was some problem with my credit card payment and they are looking into it, and will call me back tomorrow.
I confirmed the credit card payment with them already on the same day i placed the order.
And my credit been charged already. GRRRR!!!!!
hope they fix it…. will be mad if they call me tomorrow and tell me its out of stock.

  • My friend who ordered from last Wed
after received 2 email said order delayed
she just receive 1 email on today said delay will be approx 3 weeks
if she unwilling, she can send sms and they will cancel the order and refund

they still have this phone on postpaid but they said they dont have enough stock for prepaid

    terrible Optus

    • got the same message about the 3 week delay. three weeks or refund? not very happy.

  • if anyone is in Melb and wants to cancel .. i'm willing to wait the 3 weeks and purchase it from you :)

get in touch via contact me .. thanks

  • i bought this, delivery didn't come. now saying delayed 3 weeks!

  • Link is back up but when you put it into your cart it comes up at $0.00 and does not have the item.

    • i just try to order and my cart came up at $269.10

weird, they delayed our orders and now they want to sell again

      wtf Optus

  • A question please.. If i unlock using the htcimeiunlock website.. and sometime down the line decide to reset the phone to factory settings, will the phone get network locked again? or does this code once n for all remove the network lock.. Thanks

    • No once unlocked all good to go… can you imagine the abuse telcos would cop if they tried that on :)

  • what the heck
    Optus realy crazy
they open link again and after few hours they closed it again

    crazy

    • Yeh.. Don't bother with them.. They cancelled my order so had to get it from kmart for $30 more but less the hassle.. Even got the unlock code from the website for $25 in 5 mins.. Wow !!

  • +1

Just in case anyone is interested in this phone, like many others I was a little frustrated at the 3 week delay from Optus from this phone after placing an order as I wanted it as a gift for someone.

So, I called Dick Smith sales number (1300 366644) and they agreed to price match the $269 Optus offer. They also had around 150 in stock & will deliver (free) a few days after ordering.

It's my first time ordering from DSE but I was pretty happy with the service I was given.

    • May I ask howd you prove to dicksmith that optus is selling for 269 since the link has been taken down? :( I will try call ds on monday =/
