Good timing, I just sold my PS4 Pro at good price.

    • +4

      How much?

      • +2

        Is nice

      • +4

        Good price.

      • must be 500 plus minus 50. I guess. even ps4 slim posted at 400 in FB market.

    • +4

Same. Got $720 for mine on eBay with 10 games and 3 controllers. Had barely used it.

  • +31

If for some reason you need it right now ok but the price is way too high

  • +13

Who would really be buying this with the PS5 right around the corner?

    • Just for fun

    • +13

Anyone who bought AfterPay or Zip shares a month ago.

      • +5

        🚀🚀🚀🚀

    • +3

      People in lockdown with kids?

    • +1

      Loads of cheap presented games.

    • 3 months in lockdown is a long time

  • +8

Should wait for Xbox Series X and PS5 honestly.

    • yes, performance increase is insane

      • +1

Those Halo Infinite graphics! Just kidding..

        • Hopefully they're able to fix it since it's being delayed.

  • +20

Wow. This is more than I paid for mine 2 years ago. Gonna have to consider selling mine now while the prices are high.

    • +9

Jeez, yeah. Got mine for $420 two years ago with gt sport, and immediately sold gt sport for $60. Stacked it with $100 harvey norman amex credit so final price was $260 haha.

      • +15

        This guy ozbargains

  • I guess anyone silly enough to buy at this price at this time probably deserves to be parted from their money,

  • +1

Ps5 is coming with usd499. Reckon is 599aud?

    • +4

I'm going to wager more likely $650 AUD.

      • +24

650 AUD is way too cheap

I'm expecting 800 for the drive version and 700 - 750 for the driveless version

        • +2

I was going off the $499 USD price tag. I recall the xbox one being $499 USD on release, and $650 AUD.

          $800 would be outrageous imo.

          • +11

@Frayin: cast your mind back to the days of the PS3, where US$599 meant an AU$999 launch price. Even today US$500=AU$700, and that's before you add GST.

            It'll be $800 minimum.

          • +8

            @Frayin: I think you're in for a shock then, I'm expecting $800+ for sure

            • @MiscOzB: Nah, it's too high. They've made that mistake before, didn't pan out.

$650 is the most i would pay, and i wouldn't be thrilled about it.

              • @Salmando: PS5 will be comparable to a mid-range PC though, and a large upgrade over PS4

              • +3

@Salmando: Idk about $800-900 being "too high" for a console when you see phones on the market selling for $1500-2000 which cost more than a decent laptop

                • @Agret: People should stop comparing consoles to phones. Phones are a necessity although it can be argued that expensive ones aren't.

I do agree that $800-$900 isn't too high for what you get however many people have been affected by covid so don't have the resources for next gen consoles.

              • +2

@Salmando: Sony: we need to make our cost back but price it according so not losing out to Xbox as well.

                Marketing: I say Aud$800.

                Sony: sounds good.

Sony PA: wait! Salmando will be pissed off you price it that high!!!

Sony: oh no!! Code Red!! We have to price it $650!!

Sony PA: but he'll still not be thrill about $650!

Sony: you know what, let's give it away for free.

              • @Salmando: You're dreaming if you think it'll be $650. Not even the digital version will be that price. Expect at least $700 for that.

You'll have to wait at least two years to get the disc version for that much.

              • @Salmando: my money is on 650 as well and thats a tough pill to swallow….anything more and i'll wait mid gen to see if theres those pro versions

          • +3

@Frayin: A few years ago, I'd agree but I think companies have successfully normalised high prices for electronics - just think of how many people you know with $1k+ phones

          • @Frayin: Basing it off the same conversion as the Nintendo switch, that was 300 USD and 469 AUD. 469/3*5=781AUD so $800 seems pretty likely. PS3 Launched for $829 for 20gb and $999 for 60gb so it wouldn’t be the first time we see prices that high from Sony

          • @Frayin: $800 wouldn't be outrageous. First off, our exchange rate isn't as good as it was back when the PS4 launched.

Secondly the PS5 and XSX are as powerful as mid range PCs and have custom SSDs. You won't be able to build an equivalent PC for the same price, not to mention the exclusives you'll get with the PS5.

            • @driew: That was the same for the Xbox one and PlayStation 4 on release, infact it remained that way for quite a few years after their release, you couldn't build a PC with similar output of an xbox one/PS4.

Regardless, I still find it outrageous. Consoles target demographic typically leans towards casual gamers who don't want to spend too much on a PC. Consoles have always been the budget option, and the cheaper alternative to buy for kids.

It's all a matter of opinion and subjective at the end of the day. The fact will be the price.

Everyone will feel different about the prices.

              • +1

@Frayin: That's not accurate. Xbox One and PS4 were both quite outdated during release and were the equivalent of a low range PC so not exactly the same next-gen.

I also disagree about consoles leaning towards casual gamers. Sure there are the hardcore top percentile who want the best of the best and will pay for an expensive gaming rig however I'm not talking about them.

"Hardcore" gamers are the main demographic of MS and Sony. Nintendo Switch dominates the casual market. One of the biggest reasons consoles exist is because there is next to no piracy whereas that is rampant on PC. Serious gamers also make the most money for developers as they're likely to purchase lots of games whereas casuals might just buy a handful or so in comparison. A lot of the games on the Xbox and PS are for mature audiences (at least 15+) so I'm not sure if they're the most appropriate consoles for kids.

Personally, I think smartphones are outrageous in price. For e.g. Rumours are suggesting the new iPhone 12 will be over $3K in price.

        • I think the disc version will be more, Oz pricing is always much higher than should be. I predict $899-999 because we're cashed up in Oz 🤦

          • +2

@Bretttick: Yep, especially knowing Sony. They recently jacked up all their RRPs on camera gear too. Its usually something like: US price converted to AUD, plus 10-15%, plus another 10% GST.

            • +1

@eggboi: Top of the line Nvidia 3090 GPU is looking to be $1400USD, so probably $2.5k. $1k for a PS5 looks good in comparison.

        • Don’t think no. They want to keep the price low (let alone conversion), so that people buy the games.

    • +12

      More like $800.

      • Rumoured to be $750

      • +1

Close to $1000 even, wouldn't be surprised.

    • +7

      PS3 was AU$999 at launch… <braceyourselves.gif>

      • Yeah and looked how that turned out. MS almost overtook Sony at the end of the generation so I don't think either MS or Sony will repeat that mistake again, especially given how covid has destroyed so many jobs.

Given that both XSX and PS5 will have limited supply during launch, I think it'll be under $900 (my guess is $850 for the top end version). Most people that buy during launch are early adopters so they're more willing to pay a premium.

    • +2

$899 although I wouldn't be surprised if we see $999 as that would put it around $600 USD + GST/aussie tax.

    • +2

Both XSX and PS5 will be expensive. Expect at least $850 AUD.

    • +2

You are forgetting in the US they quite exclusive tax - we are required to quite inclusive tax - also FX, shipping diff etc….

      • Quite right sir

    • +1

Not a chance, will be pretty suprised if its less than $800 (maybe $750 for discless version)

    • Will be $799 no drive/$899 with imho.

    • "Rumours suggest the physical PS5 will launch around the $700 to $800 mark"

  • -3

PS5 will probably be $699 or $749, so this price for PS4 Pro makes sense

    • +11

No it doesn't, ps4 prices are still inflated due to lockdown

  • +7

Wowee who would buy this? Price is ridiculous, I got mine for $350 a while back.

  • Why?

  • +1

I got mine for $350 and sold it for $400 during lockdown to fund my PS5 purchase

    • Nabbed mine brand new off ebay for $270, don't intend on selling any time soon though, would rather wait for a black PS5 to release anyway

      • +1

Thats a sweet price for a PS4 Pro! Although mine actually cost me only $150. Bought the Fortnite bundle on prime day 2 years ago. Sold the fortnite code for $200 :)

        • Were you desperate to sell your Pro? Probably could've got a fair bit more than $400. Although you could say that Fortnite code more than makes up for it haha

          • +2

@MiscOzB: Ye i could have. I just put up the ad for $400 because I thought it was a fair price. Got a buyer almost immediately. I agreed. Got about 30 messages from other buyers in the next hour. Felt the regret but I already agreed to sell to the first buyer so didnt back out :(

            • @0FoxGiven: you know that story sounds familiar, because that's how i got my ps4 pro for 400. it was almost new and ad on marketplace was only few minute old. grabbed it in new hours , all parties happy except those who could'nt get it

  • +2

Still disappointed that Sony didn't offer PS4 redemption with purchase of a Sony TV.
I still have my original PS3 in the corner, although 40GB hard drive has been upgraded to 500GB.

    • My Sony TV that had the free ps3 offer is now dead and I still have the ps3. The hdd has also been upgraded.

      • +1

TV is still going strong, although I had the panel replaced out of warranty for free.
I had to buy a Vodafone TV box to watch HD free to air TV due to code changes.

    • +1

I still have both - the Sony W5500 and the PS3 are still ticking. I reckon we might see a good promo for a PS5 with a Sony KD65X9000H at some point!

  • Is the PS4 pro much more power over the standard PS4 slim?

    • +2

That’s subjective, it aims to provide 4K compared to the PS4’s 1080P, it’s a better experience overall, much like upgrading your PS4 with an SSD, it’s better but not essential

      • If you don't have a 4K TV, you probably won't notice much difference. Sure load times and a few other things might be moderately better.

    • -1

      Not really

    • +5

For many games the difference is huge. I was so pleased when I upgraded for sure.

    • 4k is upscale. ppl buy PRO for better FPS. once you go better FPS in PS4 games, can't be back to 30 FPS even 4k.

  • +1

I suppose Sony will discontinue the Pro when the PS5 comes out, like MS did with the One X. It makes sense. Why have a next gen-lite console cannibalize your actual next gen sales. The slim PS4 could soon be the only PS4 you can buy, plus whatever super slim model Sony always comes out with.

  • +1

I don't think these will last long, 1 week tops!

    • It's crazy how popular gaming consoles have become due to covid and lockdown. It's a good thing though as a bigger gaming install base will mean more games being developed.

      • I was wrong, supply lasted ~2 weeks.

  • I bought this for 399 like 3 years ago.

  • +1

Daym, must have got a good deal for like $370 or so 4 months ago.

  • Xbox one x machines are selling for $450 2nd hand!

I finally got one yesterday for $300 so was happy.

All consoles are in high demand these days.

    • Yep I am waiting for a buy on the Xbox one S. Cheapest is 379 for 1tb from Microsoft. 2nd hand one are more expensive!

      • +1

Gee. I still remember when people were buying a brand new Xbox One S 1TB for $199 howbeit was the Minecraft Limited Edition release. Crazy prices for game consoles these days.

  • early next year once we are back to normal lives there will be heaps listed on classifieds for less than 300 i say

  • +4

I guess anyone silly enough to buy at this price at this time probably deserves to be parted from their money,

PS4 Pro is still a powerful console - I would agree if this was just a PS4 Slim or 1st edition.
Even with the PS5 out, it will continue to have Sony Game releases for at least another 3 years.

If you dont have a 4K TV, there's hardly any point in forking an extra $300 for the PS5.

Finally, PS5 is limited in backward compatibility, so some people still want these classics on Ps4

    • +2

PS5 will have better graphics even at 1080p, the dual sense controller, 3D audio and an SSD with fast load times. There are quite a few reasons to get a PS5 besides 4K.

The vast majority of PS4 games will be playable on PS5.

We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

      Source

      • Man they're gonna price it into PC territory.

        I can feel it.

        • +1

Max is $899 AU for disc edition I think. More likely to be $799 AU.

    • I agree with you. PS5 is for genuine 4K and some graphic technologies which doesn't really need, like Ray tracing. PS5 might ask us to choose between 4K and Ray tracing with 1080p.

  • Got it for $392 after returning the games in this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/286983?page=1#comment . Can't believe it's still selling for $500 with the pending PS5 release.

  • PS5 Standard $799 AUD*
    PS5 Discless $749 AUD*

    *That's my guess at least.

    • I think at least a $100 US difference between the two versions would make more sense for Sony.

  • I didn’t post this as it’s not a deal but Telstra has the Xbox one X back in stock.
    https://www.telstra.com.au/entertainment/gaming/xbox-all-acc…
2 years of ultimate is included $714 Is the total over 2 years. $34 per month for 24 months

But just wait 3 months for next gen
Oh and price prediction for PS5 disk 899 digital 799 and series X 799 series S 399 but I am starting to think it’s vapourware they are being so cagey about the price(I think it’s so the backlash for the high prices are short as once they are released they’ll be sold out.)
