Hmm looks like the deals are coming out for gaming laptops

  • dyor, be wary many variants of rtx2060 power level on mobile

some tested laptop w/ rtx2060 performs lower than desktop 1660 non-super

    • True.

Laptop GPUs will NEVER run the same speeds as a desktop due to power and heat outputs. Needs to be compared like-for-like and balanced with power requirements. But yes, the 2060Q will be about the speed of a 1660, but will have more richer RTX feature set than the standard GTX.

my point is you can get a laptop with 2060 that performs 20% faster than another laptop with 2060 but capped power package

          Lol..

some tested laptop w/ rtx2060 performs lower than desktop 1660 non-super

Which part of this isn't comparing it to a desktop?

As a rule of thumb, if the refresh rate isn't listed, it's because they're hiding that it's 60Hz so confirm the full specs of the exact model number with HN or ASUS before purchasing.

If it's 144Hz, this is a much better gaming deal than the 4800H laptop it's up against, though I'd be looking at AMD equivalent CPUs still due to battery life concerns with 10th gen Intel H series.

      • Appears to be the same model Nitro 5 AN515-55.
The full model number from HN is AN515-55-58WJ so there could be different configurations.
Best to confirm with HN before purchasing

      • There will no doubt be configurations with several panel options, but you need to confirm the specific model if it's not listed.

      Why ASUS though?

      • My bad: Acer.

CPU is undoubtedly better in the TUF (Ryzen 7 vs i5)
but the GPU is also much better in the Nitro (RTX2060 vs GTX1650Ti)
From a gaming stance, I think the Nitro would be the better performer though you'd probably have to upgrade the RAM to 16GB

      • Also Thunderbolt

        • Contrary to the page's advertising. This doesn't have Thunderbolt 3.

Hmm and screen info would be handy to make a decision

        • jasswolf advice is best, assume 60Hz if not specified. You can try talking to a HN rep to clarify

Some rtx 2060 mobile perform the same as 1660 non super as mentioned previously. Also the ram on the tuf is at 3200mhz.

        • Definitely research specific models before purchasing. I suspect lower performance arises from thermal throttling.
As from RAM frequency, it’s just to match the CPU. AMD is more powerful so will use higher frequency RAM

    • Why? Just trying to understand im in the market with a similar budget to both units

    • Ha - GTX 1650 Ti!! Nope.

      • 60hz screen with a 2060 is a nope as well lol

        • I agree that neither are particularly good.
I’d wait u til the next Dell 20% off eBay for some decent gaming laptop deals

        • Using a laptop screen is always a last resort. If you're at home, it makes more sense to connect an external monitor.

          • @AussieZed: If you’re going to use a monitor, might as well just buy a desktop PC

  • Risky to buy gift cards in case ozbargained?

  • Acer makes it hard to find info on the screen. Or should I say no detailed info

  • +1

I have got a predator triton 300 that bought from hardly normal. It is 60hz.

  • According to this review the screen covers only 53% srgb, and the 1650Ti version hits over 80 degrees after 30 minutes of gaming.
