Does this one come with USB3.0?

  • does this have any USB 3 ports?

    • 1 x USB 3.0 port

      • -1

Why I get negged for asking question? The poster didnt state there was USB3 and edited the description after.

        These boards are getting hilarious

  • Good deal, but not super, quick search found (whirlpool thread http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1790792)it was $997 at HN only last weekend…a lot cheaper than staticice but not a heap cheaper than HN last week

    • +1

yes that same deal was posted on ozbargain as well (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55428). but it only ran for the weekend and I went on that Monday and price went back up so I missed out. so greatful that it went on sale again, and another $98 off :)

  • Does the 'Pallet Sale' of HN apply to netbooks/dslr camera's as well if anyone knows?

    • Pallet Sale excludes Apple, Sony Vaio, netbooks and tablets. No info on DSLRs. There's an existing earlier post on the pallet sale here.

  • Is it Quad Core or Dual Core? i7s come in both flavours.

    • Dual Core, use Intel Ark for more info http://ark.intel.com

    • 2630 is the quad core :\

      • Asus and HN website say:

        Processor Brand: Intel
        Processor Model: 2620M
        Processor Speed (GHz): 2.66

        2620 is dual core

  • bluetooth? battery life?

  • Why do all these newer ultrportables not have backlit keyboards?

Sure, it might use up some power, but 8 hrs usage as opposed to 10hrs would be fine if they have backlit!

    • Why do you want to work in the dark for 8 hours? :)

      • +3

He could be a vampire? :P

      • Or a miner?

      • or a cricket umpire

    • Stupid finger typist. Learn where the damn keys are :p

In all honesty I'd rather have the 15 minutes battery life and $10 off the price by not including it.

  • the prices are coming down, beacuse of the new zenbook thats coming out in 7days time, can't wait for it its better than the macair

  • What Harvey store doing this I'm in Perth and its not 50% that laptop the deal

  • Note that this asus is not quad core '2620m'

  • I just opened up the laptop and it is beautiful!! its more thinner than I expected.
it doesn't have a dvd drive but its more thinner than my Asus eee netbook.

cant wait to install another 4GB RAM inside. then a SSD hard drive in the future.

I recommend this laptop for anybody who wants a very slim line powerful laptop with a cheap price tag.

    • Hi edBargain,

Which HN did you get the laptop from?

Just in case other HN wont give the same price.

      Thanks.

if you go to the laptop section. underneath the laptop there is a price tag on an A4 piece of paper that says $899 for the Asus U36SD-RX138V and $599 for the Asus U36JC-SSH-RX248V respectively.

it says Pallet Sale. or just ask about the Pallet sale.

I didnt check for any other laptops.

        goodluck :)

  • Traded out my macbook pro for one of these during the $997 Harvey Norman deal. Battery life is incredible ( >> than my MBP) and heat dissipation is fantastic. However it took a fair bit of work to take it apart to replace the hdd with an ssd. The entire keyboard/front of the laptop needs to be removed.

    • what SSD did you change it too?
did you get a sataIII one?

and where did you find the instructions?
      did you youtube it?

i'm watching some tutorials on how to take it apart on youtube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrsRS3MJHoc&feature=related)
but so scared because its so new dont want to unscrew yet.

      • +1

A Crucial 120 SataII drive that I took out of my mac. I followed that video. Used a hairdryer to make removing the rubber pads easier as I was afraid I would damage them somehow and wouldn't be able to put them back on. This didnt turn out to be an issue at all.

The rest is pretty easy, I used an iphone opening tool (the green plastic one he uses) to lift the keyboard off after removing the cables. Then easy swap over and reassemble

        • how was the battery lift after u swapped the SSD for the HDD?

        • they say it gives you 1~1.5hrs more with SSD

  • -1

Is the original one installed a hybrid drive?

    • dont think so.

      I think its just a standard 750GB 5400RPM HDD.

but I think the laptop is compatible with a Hybrid drive, thats if you wished to install.

  • Just bought one from Harvey Norman in Perth in cannington. Took a long time to price match with this post. The deals they had were terrible . They said they cant price match the $599 asus you posted. They said its not in the email they received . This $899 asus is still priced at $1798 . It's not even on sale , which is poor. When I first bought it and took it home the back cage for the processor was off and damaged . Returned it and got a new one . Will see how it goes from here f

    • so which one did you end up getting and how much did you end up paying for yours maher1992?

  • Went to HN Springvale but they had none in stock. Called up HN Dandenong but they were only offering at $1350. Bah, those who can pick one up for $900 has a good bargain on their hands.

  • got the $899 asus which is posed here. after an hour of trying to price match. they didnt let me price match the i5 which is posted here for 599. the only laptops for 50% was the samsung ones which had the original price as 2500

    • damns well at least you got the better one with the i7 and GT520M rather than the i5 with the 310M.

so I guess its different from store to store.

      • $300 more for better graphics and bit better processor, worth it ?

      • is the 599 one a second gen i5 or first gen?

  • Nunawading has the display model for 899

  • could ya post a receipt to help with the bargaining? thanks

    • +2

ok i will if you +ve the deal :)

      • thanks, I'll see if i can get it tomorrow.
Reckon office works or something will price match?

        • nps :)

this model doesnt sell anywhere else besides harvey normans.

i tried OW, jbhifi, good guys, etc. etc.

and only some HN store have the sale.

i went to the harvey normans in thomastown to have a look, they had the pallet sale but they only had 10% off this model :(

  • had to call up 6 stores to find that price at frankston. ended up getting the one for $599.

    • Hey, any chance you could post the invoice so others can try to price match? cheers.

  • Harvey Norman bastids wouldn't match it

Alexandria store said they never heard of the sale and onyl willing to do the i7 for $1,350 and i5 for $1,050

Moore Park supacentre said they can't do it and the i5 was $885

Their excuse? "We are franchised and can give any discounts we want, so it will vary from store to store"

This is not a good deal. Another negative for Hardly Normal stores

  • +1

harvey norman need to get there act together. this is a joke

  • 4 units remaining @ Liverpool (only 20% off though).

1 unit (display model) remaining @ Auburn ($898).

    Broadway:

Whoever negged you and me must work for Hardly Normal hehehe

    • Report them to the ACCC. This is tying of the goods - illegal.

  • does anyone know if this pallet sale is east coast only or for WA aswell?

  • Game on at Castle Hill fellow Sydneysiders!

Now for the 1.5hr commute back to the city with 3% left on the iPhone battery :(

  • spoke to sales person in perth victoria park. they have 5 lap tops of the i5 at $649 and a fare few left of the i7 at $899. the sales represent said the i5 at $599 is a mistake

  • Thanks for the post dudes, this was the laptop I wanted and great to get it at a bargain… just picked up 2 from Castle Hill.

  • Thanks for the heads up - picked one up from Maribyrnong.

  • thanks for posting the deal, just had a question for the u36sd owners. Does the power button on the left boot up the laptop? I have a friend with the u31 and the left button boots into express gate os but not the case on my u36sd?
