Not as cheap as previous deals this year ( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/558266 and https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/537713 ) for $50.99 but @ $55.24 it's close and less than a coffee difference, and a good deal if you're wanting one of these for your garage.
I brought mine a couple of months ago and it's fantastic - open/close from phone, alerts to phone of open/close, and alert if open for too long. Great for when a family member forgets to close the garage.

Be Smart: Make your existing garage door smart. Remote and Voice Control, just tapping the meross /'mɪrɚs/ app from anywhere or speaking to your Alexa or Google assistant devices. To let in your family, guests or couriers through the garage door while you are cooking or not at home. No monthly fee or any other subscription fee!
Compatibility Check: Please check if your garage door model is in the compatibility list on meross /'mɪrɚs/ official web. Also you can contact us to confirm the compatibility.
Multiple Notification Modes: Stay alert by different notification modes such as garage door open/ close status, overtime notification and overnight notification to remind you close the garage door. And you can check the garage door open/ close operation records through the APP.
More Precise and Stable: It comes with a high sensitivity sensor which monitors the status of garage door more accurate and the signal stays stable. With adapter convert 110v to 5v, much safer.
Easy to Install: Installation is much easier than you may think. Pls make sure your wifi strength is acceptable near your garage door. This is the upgraded version, which has solved the interference issues our old version may cause to some garage door remotes.

Just got one and installed. Love it.

^ This. Got one and can second with HotPie - absolutely recommend.

      • Got one and can second with HotPie

        Huh?

  • so if my goggle nest is next to the window my neighbour can say google open garage and garage door will open?

    • +2

The assistant actually asks for the PIN (which you set up in the app) as well when you give the "Open" command

      • good to know

      • +2

So if your near the window you can hear them say the pin as well

      • On a comment related with a similar product, someone said if you give Alexa command 'close' , it will open the door. Only for 'open' , Alexa asks password. This is because it's just relay getting activated for both open and close.

Is it the same for this product as well?

    • +1

Or don't link it to Google/Amazon, and just use the Meross app.
That's what I've done, for just this sort of reason.

    • +2

Only if your GA accepts commands from guests. You can only allow based on voice match.

  • I need something like this…. or at least a light to tell me I've left the door open before neighbours knock on door at 10pm telling me, or accidentally opened it by the key fob controller when bending over and keys in pocket, or stressing at work all day, worried I've left door open as don't remember closing it.

    • Get a webcam, stick it in the garage?

      • Can confirm that Wyze Cams are amazing for this

    • App allows you to set a time to close it, if it's open. Great for exactly this situation where it's still open at night.
Can also set it to auto close if it remains open after xx mins.

    • -1

Might need a new fob… My fob button needs a hard push before it sends a signal to open/close so you can't accidentally push it that easily…

check if your garage has a setting to have auto close as well

      • +3

auto-close sounds dangerous if you have pets/kids.

        • +1

Garage door opener should have auto-return on resistance, or a full IR beam auto-close function.

          • @auMouth: The resistance works but it's still going to do damage before it reverses itself.

            • @db87: That's why it's better to ensure you have the proper IR beam detector for your garage door opener, before you enable any auto-close functionality.

            • @db87: Yes. Unfortunately, we have closed the panel door while the boot of the wagon was open. Then come time to ge tthe car out again, the hinge of the panel would get caught under the lip of the boot. If the person does not realise why, they keep closing and opening the garage door.

        • Or shiny cars/bikes you're working on. I either unplug/switch off or place the fobs well out of arms reach if I'm working under the shelter of my door.

Knocked the buttons a few times to not want to learn the hard way.

  • Hi OP,
A quick question, do I need a spare power point near garage door opener to install this?
    Thanks

    • could use a multi plug? your garage door opener will already have a power outlet?

      • It is powered by usb, if that helps. you could consider a plug with usb connector.

    • It uses USB, so you'll need a power point nearby that you can plug the USB cable/adapter into. Put a double adapter/power board (with USB outlet) on what ever power point you're using for your garage door opener?

    • Yes, according to the user manual, it is powered via a USB cable.

    • -1

I have no idea how much power it draws but if it's really low, and as it apparently uses USB I would think it is low powered then you could plug the USB cable into a powerbank. That way you may only have to change the powerbank when the power runs low, it could be once every few months if it is a low powered device.

    • Hi guys, thanks for the tips.
      Much appreciated.

  • Is there a better ZigBee solution or something that will work in home assistant?

  • +1

Connect with a camera that does LPR and IFTTT and even better

  • Also have one. Installed a few days ago, went easier than expected. Works very well.

  • i have an ARA Mark 1 door, does anyone know of any smart opener that works??

  • What is the sensor like that can tell if the door is already open or closed?

    • A magnetic reed switch - one on the moving door and one static placement. When they meet it knows the door is closed.

  • +1

A friend and I bought three of similar product though Aliexpress for around $28 each. Just search “smart wifi garage door opener”, you should be able find similar ones. I need two cause my double garage has two separate garage doors. But after installing it, we absolutely love it. I can use SIRI/Google/Alexa/Smart Life App to open/close the garage doors. Better than buying another remote control causing the keys on the controller is dying.

    • so can you use SIRI with this device ?

      • If the device OP linked uses Smart Life to setup, yes, SIRI can be configured. It basically configure an action for SIRI to perform a specific app operation. I setup like “ Hey Siri, open my garage” and siri check the app and do so. But mind you, siri is a bit slow though.

    • thanks will search at ali and wishlisted it for later.
it is similar like this one posted here, right? uses USB as well, can send notification, reminder if open too long, google assistant is asking for PIN before opening, etc?

      • The one I bought has an AU plug. I just went to Bunnings and bought a double power adapter. Problem solved. The others is basically the software side. As both can be controlled through Smart Life, I would say there is no difference.

  • Too late. 100% claimed.

  • +3

    It's expired already.

I previously bought one of these https://opengarage.io/ and it's great because if you're paranoid like me and don't want your doors to be open to the Internet, it will work completely offline as long as you're on the same LAN. And — it works well with Home Assistant.

    • I said the same thing on the previous deal. Wherever possible my automation gear is all triggered locally via hassio. The only cloud connection is Google who i somewhat trust… More than these random Chinese companies anyway. +1 for opengarage.

  • Do people have an opinion about whether this approach or the traditional keyfob remote is a more secure (less hackable) system?

    • Security 101, the more entry points you have into a system the less secure it becomes.
That said, what is the likelihood of a hacker penetrating your phone/smart devices, getting hold of your address and living close by? If they're that determined there are easier ways to get into a house than hack the garage door.

      • Thanks

  • +1

I got mine from the last deal. Took me 30-45~~ minutes to install with my 10yo Glidorol.

    Works well.

App has few glitches - especially if I open the door using remote control. App gets the notification that door is open, but in-app icon shows door is closed. Have to tap twice to close the door.

Also, using remote I can stop the motor operation anytime while it is running - that is, I can partly open the door. This is not possible with this device. It is either open or closed.

    • Really good points here - agree on this - you cant stop the door part way through. It does nothing if the app is clicked when the garage door is in motion. You can only either fully close or fully open it - or atleast I havent figured out a way.

  • On a previous post, someone mentioned an Xiaomi model.of door opener/notification.

Be good to use the same app for my other Xiaomi gear, and not have a multitude of different apps

  • Are the ones with the wireless sensor better?

  • Would anyone know if the Meross branding (and potential customisation) has added value to these remotes over the OEM versions found in AliExpress / ebay?

    • These have been improved on their previous version, now having better wifi coverage and better interference handling.
The OEM versions might not have these improvements?

    • To be honest, I would prefer the Aliexpress ones as the Aliexpress ones coming with an AU plug while the Meross one needs be powered by USB power which means either a power outlet with USB port or an additional USB power plug (However as ozbargainers here, I am sure everyone has a few USB power plug laying somewhere in the house, but still a hassle.) in term of software, both can be controlled through Smart Life, so no difference. In term of quality, I can’t say as I don’t have a meross one. However the ones I got which are quite good. But that does not mean it won’t have problems though. With three purchased, my two have no issue at all. However my friend’s one is DOA. Take time to get a replacement.

  • I've no idea how to check compatibility. I stared at my garage box and there doesn't appear to be anything to short.

    • What box have you got? I got the kit during the last deal and popped open my Boss controller to find some jumper pins to connect the trigger wires to.

Automatic Technology GDO-6v2 - it says compatible on the website, but will check hwo to install if this goes on sale again. always wanted garage door i can control remotely.

        • -2

No. You can not use this type device on a roller garage door. It can only be used on a panel garage door.

          • +2

            @xxxcc: Incorrect

            • @auMouth: Due the sensor/switch being mounted on the door, if you didn’t mount it on a clear location, it will crush the sensor/switch. However if you can find a clear location without interference, I would say it is ok to be used for a roller door.

        • There seems to be a couple of connectors on the PC board of the GDO-6v2. Perhaps talk to the manufacturer and ask if any of the pins on those connectors are a trigger.

Small tip when you are installing this unit (I got one from last deal and love it!), I couldn't find a good position for the magnetic sensors on the wall/garage door, so I put one on the manual handle release (which moves with the door) and the guide rail (which is fixed) and it works perfectly. I have a B&D sectional/panel door

    • Do you have a pic? Also have B&D panel lift door

    • Thank you for the tip, was struggling to find a location until I read this post, worked well for me.

  • Is there a number i can contact to check compatibility ?

  • I ended up buying this one as per the recommendation from Chrishang :)
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32997953761.html?spm=a2g0o.p…

    • I am hoping it would work with my steel line SD800 :)

      • +1

It does work, i have the same model. Pretty easy to install

    • I ordered the same one through Aliexpress and have Steel Line SD800…Hopefully this works with that.

  • I ummed and ahh’d about buying this for way too long now out of stock sad face

  • Has anyone tried to install this on a ATA garage door opener?

this is the manual (https://www.ata-aust.com.au/AtaAust/media/Manuals/GDO-9v2-En…) , but for the life of me i can't figure out where i would plug in the wires.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks guys

    • +1

Page 8 and 9 of your manual. The terminal block (near top left of the diagram) identified on both pages as item 01. You'd use both the 0V connection and the O/S/C input connection, a wire from the device going to each of those.

      • Thank you, much appreciated !

  • anyone have an idea when these will be back in stock or where else to buy them?

    • +1

They came back in stock last night at $67. Ordered one and noticed they’re out of stock again today.

  • no phone number to contact for support?

  • has anyone managed to connect to IFTTT ?

everytime i try to log in, it tells me "user not found" lol

but i am logged in with that email in the meross app.

support is not answering my Q online and no response from email Q either..

  • Anyone had their order shipped yet?

  • Does anyone know if this works with google nest Mini?

    • Yes

      • Weirdly mine works from my android phone but not from the nest mini.

        • you need to set up the security code.

so each time you ask google to open your garage door, it will prompt you for the code… (which is annoying) so i dont use that :)

          • @carhireglobal: Yes I have that setup. It works from my phone. And yes it does ask the pin. Just does not work from nest mini 🤦🏻‍♂️
