Sydney to Hong Kong $759 Return on Qantas' A380

1010

Qantas have just announced a 'Super Sale', offering direct flights from Sydney to Hong Kong for $759 return (economy) on their A380.

Sale fares are available for departures from Sydney between 3 February and 31 March 2012, and between 16 April and 20 June 2012. Sale ends 11.59pm (AEDT) Monday 14 November 2011, unless sold out prior.

Inevitable Qantas gaffs aside, this is a great price, especially for a trip on one of their big birds. Fares seem easy to come by at present and Hong Kong is a great launch pad for trips throughout Asia.

MOD EDIT removed original link, that as another member kindly reported, this might compromise the posters email address

does it make a difference? cattle class in A380 felt just like cattle class on a 747-400.
          what am I missing?

It's not union bashing I am warning about the fact that there could be further strikes ahead.
I frankly don't fly Qantas so it didoes affect me the slightest.

had to read "didoes" twice because I thought it was another word.

      • +13

I'd like to buy a Consonant please.

      • Didoes or didoesn't? :)

    • -3

Qantas shouldn't be handing out dildo's.

OP: The link you posted , allows anyone to change your details Qantas/FF.. might want to look into that

  • Good Deal , But I am going to wait until they iron out the bugs in the A380

If you're paying by credit card, buy through www.zuji.com.au for an extra $1-2 and avoid Qantas' credit card processing fee of $30. I learnt this lesson with my last booking…

    • +1

except the horror stories with zuji…

    • Doesn't Qantas offer payment by POLI? (I don't know.)

      • Yes, they do. Takes a while longer for confirmation, but it beats the fee.

      • Doesn't Qantas offer payment by POLI?

Sorry, but what is POLI ?

        Thanks.

  • Ahh the A380, the Rolls Royce of the sky.

I think I vaguely recall a few incidents involving Qantas A380s and Asian commercial city states. I don't remember the exact details, and so I presume it was all good. I think it was something to do with 25% less thrust

  • I recall insurance companies saying any future claims resulting from Qantas strike action will not be entertained, as we know they are likely.

    Fair enough….all have been warned.

    • I'm sure nobody was entertained by the recent debacle. :)

  • I got it….. 758 teturn… So good

  • What's happened to your www.flighthacker.com website Ros? Hasn't been updated for ages!

Haha, thanks for mentioning it - I've just been putting my energy into other stuff as of late. I'll certainly think about posting this bargain tonight, though - you've really encouraged me there :)

  • Does anyone know what else is changing for QF to operate a A380 to HKG? Would this simply be a rejig of the current schedules to include HKG as a destination for the A380? Or are these A380 flights to to the delivery of more A380s to Qantas?

    • +1

Their 11th (VH-OQK) and 12th (VH-OQL) A380 are due to be delivered over the next couple of months. The deferments announced in August only affect the 15th to 20th A380s.

      • cathay fly 4 flights a day
and on weekends they are all full

virgin and qantas only fly once and twice a day

the amrket is there, i think cathay had it cornered for a while
so now qantas is flying the A380 to carry more (i think they aint allowed to fly more often)

        • Didn't Qantas use to fly three times daily?

QF127 (traditional schedule, has been around for a long time)
          QF187 (now renamed to QF87?)
equivalent of QF30, which I flew a couple of years back HKG-SYD and originated in LHR.

  • That's a good news for me, I had a return leg from HKG to SYD on the 29th, and it's now on A380 instead of the B744.

SDY HKG QF127 Service departs on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
HKG SYD QF128 Service departs on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

price beat with flight centre, but before you do price beat, better join flightcentre newsletter first (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/47181) get the voucher then do your price beat

  • bought the special $888 sale return ticket from syd to hk before the strike…. paid a 100+ extra. damn it

    • Just to make sure your bad feeling sink in further, when Qantas is doing $888, Virgin (unadvertised) was doing $775 return (and I bought it)!

      • if you follow my tips above, you might save $50 from flight centre

        • BTW which source do you normally use to price match FC? also you can do it one way at a time if you are cheap enough!! :)

        • ah ok thats what i use too :) except never tried bookingengine.

Like the first two coz no cc fees. Need more websites like them.

          will check it out! thanks!

        • my fc consultant doesn't take account cc surcharge from other travel agent.

  • Guys, I do a great lot of my flights through flight centre - I use them to price match when they are not the cheapest and often pay with gift vouchers which I can sometimes get on the cheap, making it the best deal around.

Just putting this out there, but if I were to source a bulk lot of these vouchers would fellow ozbargainers be keen for some?

    • you're asking ozbargainers if they want vouchers?

      • lol well they are essentially like gift cards, pre-purchased at a discounted rate - just gauging interest here. TBH more hassle than it's worth for myself but I have the connection so if a good amount of people here see this as worthwhile, then I might work something out.

        • Depends what the discount is :-)

        • -1

Depends on the supplier, but generally 2-4% once you factor in the suppliers processing costs. There was one freak time that I was able to get it for 10% off but unfortunately that has never happened again and despite much insistence have been told many a time that it was a one off only.

4% might not sound like much, but 2 x average peak flights cost in the $3,000 to $4,000 range. The cards save you about $120 - $160. If you are clever and get flight centre to pricematch (which they always do) then boom, you've just got 1-2 nights hotel money, depending on where and how you like to stay.

        • How do you actually price match? Do you walk in and ask them to quote on flying on a particular on Qantas, and if they say anything over $759 then you say "ha! gotcha- you gotta price match me now "?

  • Checking flights today it seems the A380 flights are filling up from Feb 3 so the fare is also available on selected 747 and A330 flights too…if I book the A330 I want my fare to be $330!!! :)

    • I booked on a A330 flight for $379…

  • Guys, don't book the A330. A380 is the new plane. Should give that a taste.

But it does take a massive 8xx passengers. The lines for check-ins, immigration, etc going to be nasty!!!

    • Qantas capped it 450 passengers :) thank god!

    • dont think qantas holds 8xx…

  • Does this price include tax?

    • Yes inclusive.

  • what's the fare code? anyone?

    • no code, just read the term and condition!!!

    looks good
