I can't wait to start collecting.

  • I wonder how long it can stay good past the expiry date?

(on a separate note, another dumb example of c[]el cul[]re)

    • I've had one 6 months past found at the back of the pantry. Tasted fine, I didn't die.

Uncle roger says no to packet pre-cooked rice

    • I love Uncle Rog!

    • Uncle Roger will be distraught to know Uncle Bens is changing

      Haiyaaa………….

If Jamie Oliver is happy with microwaved rice, I can be too.

        • ? It's literally in the video that I replied to, at the exact time that he used microwave rice

I don't buy any fried rice not endorsed by Uncle Roger… So looks like I can only eat the Nasi Goren from Ramsey…

    • +2

Can I rinse the rice after I cook it?

Uncle Roger, " haiyaa….why you so stupid? Throw that rice into the wok and create the wok-hay!"

  • +4

What about my uncle? Did you give him a chance?

  • +2

Gonna enjoy this with melted Coon cheese, followed with redskin lollies

Apparently using the word Uncle is racist against Aunties…..What will they do with Aunt Bettys Pudding???

    • Not unless you're a nephew/niece

    • +1

Already sorted out by the sjw's. Check out what they did to aunt Jemima.

  • -1

Lots of embarassing, inflammatory comments coming from the usually decent OzB community.

    • +2

      Such as?

    • +3

its embarassing when shameless cancel-culture SJWs try to pin imagined crimes on innocent businesses and vandalise public property

      • It's a corporation deciding that using a slave as a mascot is no longer acceptable. They've made a business decision that will make them the most money.

        • +2

Looks like we found the racist in sir-fibber.

Uncle Ben was not based on a slave.
There was no real Ben, but the character was initially based on a farmer.
Imagine thinking all black people are slaves you bigot..

        • Depends on culture I guess. Uncle in Asian is compliment.

    • +3

      usually decent OzB community

Obviously you've never opened up a caged eggs deal.

      Text book white fragility :)

      • -1

Im not white but good on you for admitting you are racist

      • Funny.

  • These are often half price so this is not a big special.

    • +2

yes, and when half price it's all varieties, for those that normally just cook plain rice and comapre $ per kg, these packs are great for that 1-2 person meal that wants something extra, e.g lemon grass, lime & chilli with a meal, and cheaper than take-away rice options with take-away meals.

    • +4

I hoard this stuff, preferably at a full half price, not just a $2 sale.

I reckon I've got 6 garlic rice, 8 tex-mex, 10 mexican, and 6 brown and wild rice at home.

I live alone and am into no-thought meals.

FYI, if you are like me and do not use a microwave, you can cook them on the stovetop. Crush packet to break up rice. Open packet and empty into saucepan. Add about 4mm of water in the bottom of the pan. Cook till it boils, steams, and evaporates (20 minutes?) over low-medium heat.

It's OK if some of the rice sticks to the bottom a bit. Just leave the lid on and let it sit (off the heating element) for 5 minutes or so before taking it out of the pan (or, uhh, taking the pan and a fork to the couch), and it'll come right off the pan as you serve/eat it.

Edit: with the garlic rice, take half a $1 mini tin of coles stems and pieces mushrooms (the kind that are NOT packed in butter… blech!), and cut them up into even smaller pieces, and dump into the garlic rice before you cook it. Seriously credible rice pilaf.

…i use half a pack & separate into a microwave container with a couple tablespoons water and blast for 90 secs in the microwave then smother with my homemade chili con carne…grated extra tasty cheese on top. a very delicious dinner

  • ….good stuff. tex mex & mexican ones go really well with my homemade chilli con carne

  • +4

stop making Peter Parker cry with this brand name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • +2

A product less than 10% Australian, owned by a foreign corporation and embroiled in American disorder. Why don’t we just give it the arse?

    • because the sunrice ones are rubbish in comparison, not even as good as aldi imo

      • Can I be the first to say the new Tesco ones available at reject shop are actually quite nice?
I'd rate them up there, although to be fair I don't rate Uncle Ben's that highly.

  • +1

Is this the new Rice a Riso?

    • I recently saw the genuine article in an IGA..haven't in a Woolies/Coles, for years. Uncle Ben is quite the dealmaker.

  • NWLikeShopping….. there will be zero nutrition in that rice alone mate, and unfortunately the finished product is not a "seriously credible Rice pilaf",and I'm sorry you can't or won't cook.

  • +1

I think I know what’s wrong, Uncle Ben is culturally appropriating Chinese fried rice

    • cultural appropriation ….so only italians are allowed to cook pizza ?
cultural appropriation is great, take an idea and maybe even improve on it ….
