Edit: Nope, as expected “This code cannot be used in conjunction with any other eBay offer, coupon or voucher.”

My plasma still kicking major ass after 10 years

Ordered and due for delivery tomorrow! Can anyone tell me if I should expect a HDMI cable in the box and at what spec? I doubt I have one any newer than 4 years.

    • $3959 RRP for the 55" TV on the LG website and they don't include a $10 HDMI 2.1 cable that you can by on ebay lol .. I'm guessing it comes with a cable.

Only the Ge force RTX 3080, 3090, Xbox Series X, Sony PS5 and soon AMD RX6800, RX6900XT use HDMI 2.1

everything else will work fine on a generic HDMI cable

      • Actually if I google about TVs coming with HDMI cables most people are saying they do not. Might be an American thing though.

I'm about to check but my worry is my current cable can't even do 4k @ 60fps, I've only ever used it for 1080p. And I'm.getting an RTX 3070 asap so I will need a 2.1 cable at some point.

        • +1

its looking like the RX6800 will be cheaper. faster and use WAY less power.

I don’t think ive ever bought a tv that came with a HDMI cable??

    • It did not come with an HDMI cable. It did come with two different types of analog connectors though. Thanks LG lol.

My Nintendo switch "high speed" HDMI cable is capable of doing 4k60 but only at 8bit colour. 12 bit colour can not be selected at 60fps regardless of the resolution but can be selected at 30fps. I'm unclear if this is a restriction of the GTX 970, the cable, or a driver oversight on NVIDIA's part. I read that RTX 3000 are the first NVIDIA cards to allow for 10 bit output rather than just 8 or 12.

If anyone is still reading and has a recommendation for an HDMI cable which is actually proven to be able to do 40gb/s with RTX 3000 let me know.

Can't believe so many people are buying at such a terrible price. 12 months ago it was almost Buy 1 get 1 free

12 months ago you could leave your state/country without applying for an exemption

But this is OZbargain.. not OzCovidTax

        • I don't understand what your gripe is? This is literally the cheapest that this particular model has been.

    • This TV wasnt out 12 months ago??

I dunno the 55 inch looks tiny, I think it's because of the bezels, the 65inch feels more natural.

Not sure why, maybe because my old 55inch had a huge black bezel.

Could be a mental thing ☹️

Anyways oleds should be cheaper due to the overall life of the TV.

    • Don't worry, just use the money you saved by picking a Chinese SUV.

    • 55" TV's in 2020 ARE TINY in a normal sized lounge room room 4x5m …. but for a small 3x3m bedroom they are great.

I'm looking at upgrading my 65" TV to a 75"

  • The everyday price of these at JB / TGG /HN is $3295. This represents a saving of ~22.7%. Past performance != future performance, LG may choose to keep the pricing high as it's got one of the best next-gen console TV's in the market. They're also slotting the 48 inch below this, which will likely fetch a premium and as a result will see these drop less.

Given the state of the world + the fact that it's a different market, I think looking a previous cycles is a bit delusional

But we still have the fact the CX only has 1 HDMI 2.1 port and it's not even full bandwidth unlike the C9 which was $1712/$2690 and has 4 HDMI 2.1 ports at Full bandwidth 48gb/s.

Consumers are getting screwed hard lol

      • -1

All four ports are the same (limited bandwidth) HDMI 2.1, no? And the bandwidth limit is irrelevant since it has more than enough to drive 4k/120Hz which is the maximum this display is capable of.

        • -3

CX only has 1 X HDMI 2.1 at limited bandwidth 40gbps.

          C9 has 4 X HDMI 2.1 at 48gbps.

Also depends.. CX won't be doing 4:4:4 12bit @ 4k120fps on limited bandwidth.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: My CX has a 12 bit panel!?

          • +4

            @[Deactivated]: You're incorrect mate - 4 off HDMI 2.1 ports, and it's a 10 bit panel. 40Gbps is fit for purpose.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: It's pretty simple to google your claim and see that it's false. There are four 2.1 hdmi inputs.

As for 40 vs 48gb/s and missing out on 4k120hz 12 bit, the panel is only 10 bit anyway. I've read one person claim downsampling a 12 bit signal to a 10 bit panel has a benefit but I'm happy to live in blissful ignorance.

          • @[Deactivated]: It's literally useless as it's a 10 bit panel, the difference in bandwidth is irrelevant

  • Can anyone recommend a soundbar for this TV? My housemate (who is moving out) owns a C8 and bought a Samsung soundbar. When in front of the TV the soundbar is too tall and blocks the sensor on the TV.

I've just purchased this and don't want to make the same mistake!

    • This has same stand as last year's C9, which means it's too low for most soundbars. You'll probably need another shelf or mounting solution. I'd look for something with eARC

    • Get a TV tabletop mount. Allows you to mount the tv on the stand, sinilar to how you would mount it on a wall.

    • Someone on whirlpool recommended this shelf from Ikea to raise the TV slightly.
      https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/lack-wall-shelf-black-brown-001…

      • We were looking to put our PVR under our TV in our snug. We created a stand using some LEGO bricks as the base and a old shelf we got for $1 from the IKEA scratch and dent area. With the LEGO blocks you can make it as tall as you want. It also looks quite funky.

    • Weirdly only Off/On on the remote is IR. Everything else is RF, ie non directional.

I just have our soundbar forward of the TV and bounce the On/Off … off the ceiling

Waiting for CX 48 … Hope LG doesn't jack up the price too much!!!

    • +1

So according to the LG website the CX 48 is going to be around $200 less then the CX 55

ON SALE with the double discount of $300 + an extra 15% off this LG CX 55 Inch OLED at $2545.75 will be CHEAPER then the CX 48 when it comes out.

Over the next 3-5 months when the TV's we may see some better deals pop up in limited supply but for the moment this is as good as its going to get.

If you care about price you will get this TV and not wait for the 48"… unless your ok waiting 3-5 months

      • Thanks for the info. 😭😭😭 I was hoping for around 2k. I was going to use it as a monitor, 55 is too big

  • -1

Alot of salty FS in here, don't feel bad.

  • This is totally personal. But I'm over oled. Yeah it's great, but not worth it. Qled is good enough.

    • +1

Have you owned both? Interested to hear your experiences.

      • I have used both over the years, 65B6 OLED for three years, last year a high end 2018 Samsung QLED and this year CX65 OLED.

I agree not much in it these days. QLED is def brighter, but the CX gets close on vivid (which blows the colour curve)

For wide viewing and deepest blacks OLED is better. I like the LG WebOS more than Samsungs, but my pref more than anything.

If you can get a CX65 at some point for <$3K it is pretty good value. I would go the high end LED Sony's based on my reading these days as a second option to OLED, Android TV is the best TV OS in my opinion

        • Thanks for sharing. I'm still stuck on my old Panasonic plasma but looking to upgrade for the PS5. I would like a 65 inch but can only really justify spending around 2k on a TV. I will look further into the Sony's as I regularly use Android TV, and that's definitely my preference for OS.

          • @Sunproof: My old 4K Panasonic LCD failed where the LED diffusers started to fall off and left me with massive grid spots on the panel. I had an aftermarket warranty so opted to get a Samsung Q60R and not FALD. I could have gotten an OLED but wanted this as a no risk burn in issue and something that would handle 1440P 120 HZ. I got the panel for $1350 but the warranty was for $1800, no complaints here and I wont get an OLED due to my current viewing requirements.
My Plasma is taking a hammering atm being on for almost 18 hrs a day, sometimes 24 hrs.
I have a sinus issue which makes it very hard for me to sleep so having the TV on is a saving grace.
An OLED would have been damaged by now due to the stations logos, luckily my Plasma is still plodding along with a reduction in brightness to combat any ghosted logos.
There is faint images but the panel is a good 8 years old with easy 20K hrs of contrast of 90% so it's been a good panel, never gamed on.
I don't think OLED is really a gaming solution if you cannot game without having to worry about long sessions or how hard you drive the panel.

The 48 CX has just been released for $2799 today, more than the 55

  • Anyone having trouble checking out on eBay with this TV?
I have a NAB Visa card and it's fully functional no restriction whatsoever and the credit limit is 15k. In the last few days I have trying to buy this tv with this card, but every time the payment is declined. I then tried buying something small of $9 - the payment was accepted no issue.

I contacted eBay twice and they kept referring me to PayPal, claiming PayPal processes all their payments. Then I reviewed my PayPal accounts to ensure everything is update to date and verified, and tried to link my Visa card to PayPal first. However, PayPal is saying the card cannot be linked. The card is not linked to any other PayPal account as far as I know. I tried getting in contact with PayPal and their customer service is literally nonexistent. Was on phone waiting for 40 mins twice!. Also message them 3 days ago still no response. Like wtf….

    Any idea guys?

    • I had the same problem with my NAB visa card. I removed it from PayPal then added it again and it worked.
