Trying to match the Aldi deal?

  • edit keeping my opinions to myself

  • sort of badly reviewed on bunnings website.
    is it that bad?

  • Bargain if you're into cheap and nasty.

So you must be into redheads then - easily damaged by the sun.

I've owned this before it lasted 2 months before the hose itself swelled and started leaking all over. Bunnings said ahh yeah that happens and gave me my money back.

    • wow..that looks nasty, looks like ur hose got some kinda nasty desease..
do you leave the mains on all the time?

      • +2

Didn't leave it connected all the time as it runs across a path do generally also empty without pressure.

I recon it's a UV treatment issue. I went from the cheapest to the most expensive they had definitely no complaints and 10y warranty now

          What exactly?

    • Sane thing happened to mine. I thought it might be been the sun but 🤷‍♂️

Does anyone have the Aldi one, I am guessing that it is better then this one.

    • Ive had cheap Aldi hose before. Never again. It couldn't handle the UV and weather and ended up bulging and splitting. Replaced with a normal cheap Nylex from Bunnings and it's lasted way longer.

The ALDI 25 metre hose reel I got 5-6 years ago is still going strong. Hose is in great condition and it still winds back pretty much the whole way. I always wind the hose up when not using it to avoid UV damage.

    • I've had an aldi hose (not the one with the reel) for a few years now and it's been fine. I actually bought a cheapo aqua systems portable reel to put it on. I have left it out for days at a time but otherwise it's reeled up under the eaves so pretty tucked away.

      • Mine was under the eaves too, but copped morning sun for a few hours a day. Maybe they are better now, but I haven't needed to replace the Nylex one which has copped the same weather for twice as long.

  • I have an Aqua Systems hose reel. Might be a previous gen as the colours look slightly different, but could just be the picture. The unit feels cheap. The retraction mechanism is hit and miss - you have to stop on the exact number of 'clicks' for it to lock otherwise it just retracts. Hose is also soft, cheap and kinks easily. No issue with UV as it's on the south side of the house and gets little sun exposure. I have a $99 Nylex retractable hose reel and although it's considered cheap and nasty by some it's still leaps and bounds better than the Aqua Systems unit.

I have been researching hose reels for air. What is very clear is that you get what you pay for in any hose reel and I would not be bothering with any of the cheapies unless it was mounted in shade, under cover and only had light occasional use.

    • them hozelock specials are usually ok or some clearance line
