    Dupe

edit - Apparently not a duplicate post as Paperwhite is not in the title of the other post. I stand corrected.

  • It's fine. Just makes it easier to find if separate as it is a popular model. Still not the all time lowest price.

  • Will this get any cheaper towards Christmas?

  • +1

If u’ve bought any Kindle before, use the same Amz account and ask them for a discount code (around 15%).

    • How to contact amazon for the discount?

      • Contact using the Help section on Amz.

      • +3

I just logged into my account and used the online chat from there. Explained I wanted to upgrade my existing kindle and asked if any discounts were available for existing kindle owners who wanted to upgrade. They offered me 15%.

        • So does that mean it will be 15% on top of Prime Day pricing?

          • @bdl: Good question. I didn't specifically ask that one. In the end I pulled the trigger today on the Kobo Libra H20 deal at HN.

          • @bdl: Just chatted to them again. Yes the 15% discount would also apply to the prime day sale price for me on the Oasis. With shopback at 10% now, that's a decent deal. I bought the Kobo Libra today, though very tempted to get the Oasis

        • I got their reply: "I do understand that that you were asking if there is a discount for upgrading a Kindle however this type of offer isn't available in our Prime Day promotional today. Our promotional for Kindles are: Save $50 off on Kindle Paperwhite 8 GB then Save 20% for Kindle Oasis and Save $40 for Kindle 10 Generation device. ."

Update: I changed another rep, and got a $25 credit for an oasis purchase.

    • I think it depends. I got $20 credit instead of 15% when I approached them.

      • Thanks, but how did you approach them?

      • Yeah, it depends, so roughly 10-15%.

  • Does anyone know this can be combined wiht ShopBack?

    • Yes No problem.

Apart from screen res, any reason to buy this over the basic model now it's got a front light?

    • +2

If you're not fussed about having water resistance, bigger memory storage options & the option to increase screen brightness, then you'll be fine with the basic Kindle.

  • I tried. I got nothing. Even invoking the power of OzBargain, the Amazon rep was unmoved. I was pleasant and thanked them for their time and wished them a good day.

    • +1

I also tried around an hour ago and they gave me 15% off. They didn't give me a code, rather they said they would refund 15% back after I purchased. They pushed me to purchase straight away, I said I wanted a day or two to think about it. They said when I was ready to buy just chat with them again and the discount will apply as they have a record of the chat and the discount being offered. I did not ask though if this would be in addition to the prime day sale price. Also, I was asking for the Oasis rather than the paperwhite.

Would be a great deal to be able to get 7% shopback and then 15% on top if possible.

      • Was it a regular rep? Mine pushed me through to a Kindle specialist rather than deal with it himself.

        • +1

Believe it was a kindle specialist. I initiated in device section on the help screen and selected the kindle as my device before starting the chat. The guy I spoke to had to go talk to someone else though before coming back to me with the discount.

I went to customer service > Digital services and device support > talk to an associate (at the bottom of the screen) > selected my kindle as the device I was contacting about and general question pre-order > then selected chat.

    • +1

I tried… nothing. Was told no discounts are given for a new device unless your old device is faulty. Guess it depends on the rep you get. No discount is fine by me, what irked me a little was keeping me waiting for 20 mins going around, before finally saying no.

  • Bought the paperwhite version 3 back in 2018 for the same price and am still using it regularly till this day. Highly recommended. Just don’t buy the white colour as pen marks dirty it easily.

Best if you can find someone to send their PDF books. It gets old and very expensive after buying a couple of books on the kindle store.

    • Interested in buying a Paper White, could you possible expand on your statement "Best if you can find someone to send their PDF books. It gets old and very expensive after buying a couple of books on the kindle store." as i don't follow
      Thanks

      • +1

If you buy a couple of books on the kindle store, it gets old and very expensive.

      • If you're touch and go with the law consider looking into z-lib.

  • The chat trying to get additional discount doesn't work for me… I tried two times with different staffs…

    • +2

      Amazon chat has been Ozbargain'd.

      • This

  • What's the difference between this and the $99 model?

Is it worth the extra $50?

    • +1

The extra money that you’d spend for the Paperwhite gets you a sharper screen, more storage, a slightly higher-end design, water resistance and a better front light. Whether those things are worth it will largely depend on when, where, what and how much you plan to read.

    • +1

I've got an old (2015?) paperwhite that is basically equivalent to the standard $99 Kindle these days. The new paperwhite seems to be waterproof with a flush screen (instead of recessed).

None of this stuff really matters, all of them read books just fine.

      • Thanks. Decide to go with the $99 version after reading your comment

  • get 15% off, you beauuuuttty

    • Are you able to use it on Prime day??

      • yes, its another $29 off

  • My support person said there's no extra discount they can give :(

  • +1

Why is this a deal? Officeworks is selling the 8GB for $148. And the 32GB $188. One dollar off… Get immediately. Hmm. Am I missing something?

    • +1

I bought a Kindle Oasis 8G, $319 on amazon - Cashrewards is $23.20 off. - discount from support chat while on OW it's $318.

      • Thanks for explaining. Looks like not a deal by itself. Btw, Shopback has 10% no? That would be $31.80 off?

        • GST is not rewardable

    • +1

Officeworks reduced their price to match, I'm pretty sure. It's normally $199.

      • -1

Normal price tag. The basic Kindle 10th ed was still $139.

Btw, cashbacks all won't include the Kindle. Excluded category. Shopback and cashrewards. So only discount if you already own a Kindle. I have Kobo's and Chinese ones… So I'm out of luck there. Officeworks is cheapest for me.

Edit: Officeworks will not pricematch because prime day requires prime membership. Any Price requiring membership is not pricematched.

        • Are you sure? I remember searching a few months ago and it was definitely not $148…I could've sworn it was in line with other retailers.

        • Shopback says 10% back for kindle, so it should include it?

        • I knew they price matched Amazon's deal at the time!

          https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/kindle-pap…

          $199 is their normal price.

  • Thanks Ya'll, anyone know if 15% off and shopback stack?

  • ffs, I did not realise this sale would be over today. I was unsure if I really wanted it yesterday and now I'm too made to pay 199. Guess I'll be waiting some months.

    • I got the basic version for $65 with PRIME15 coupon and 10% shopback.
The screen could be a bit sharper but certainly isn't an issue for a book, that's just comparing it to my phone screen haha.
The rest I think is great, I personally wouldn't spend the extra on the Paperwhite. Only thing might be the higher res but that's a stretch for the price difference. Waterproof seems a bit useless to me unless you get a bag spill, and I prefer the bezels over a flush screen.
IMO: Get the basic when it goes on sale.
