  • 100 Hz refresh rate and only 4cm thick. Not too bad.

It's Bauhn too, so its most likely packing a Samsung Panel.

    • My 42" Bauhn (purchased earlier this year) is running an LG Panel.

Still it's been a great screen for the price. Very happy with them and would happily buy a bauhn again.

      • Yeh some Bauhn run LGs, but more run Samsungs apparently

Aldi's other brand vivid, normally use LG

        • -6

I've got a Samsung, but as far as I know, LGs are better (and more expensive.)

        • +5

Imo Samsung are far better than LG

        • +1

          @HealthyWealthy

Samsungs are alot better. Read some reviews on comparable televisions.

      • I also have a Bahn, 42", model: AX-42FD2.
On some tv shows picture quality is fine, on other shows the "blacks" show as a washed out "blue". it looks totaly crap.
no STB or foxtel connected, directly FTA transmission.
Anyway no one else in the family seems to care.

  • the coffee machines looks interesting
19 bars of pressure same as nespesso (and the same as a commerical coffee machine!)

wonder if its any good though hmmm

    • I reckon that the machine itself will be pretty good/comparable to nesspresso, but the taste of the coffee could be completely different. it would be interesting to see if it takes the same size/shape pods as nesspresso

      • yeah hmmm
they say that nespresso monopoly on the pod ends soon
and otehr companies can make the machines and use their pods

        • Nespresso pods are around 80 cents each. It will be interesting to see how low the Aldi pods would go for surely they would have to be around the 50 cent mark?. I doubt the Aldi machine would be Nespresso compatible they have enough stores to lock you in to their own pods. I purchased the Kogan non-endorsed Nespresso machine. Not sure how how they get away with it. Does seem to work well and has a built in milk frother.

        • +1

Its $6 for 16 pods, so 37c each

    • -1

I bought one of there 18Volt drills,
didnt even get though one peice of pine before i stripped all the gears…

IE no good having all that power if the machine isnt strong enough to handle it.

      • +1

but how was it for making coffee?

        • good, good! use it to mix it… about the only thing it would be good for… /sarcasm…

Im just emphisising even if the stats are good, if its cheap and plastic, it might not last longer than the warantee period.

as per below you can see people already having issues with them!

very cautious about buying stuff from aldi, if the price seems to good to be true…

  • i think this unit may very well be compatible with nespresso pods…

  • +5

As far as the TV goes, personally I think you'd be much better off with a Samsung 51" Plasma, which is cheaper too (although probably only one set of glasses): http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/57258

    • +5

      but its plasma…

      • +1

The primary advantage for LCD over Plasma was their resolution. With 1080p plasmas that isn't the case anymore.

        • +2

it's been done to death on other threads here before but you cant forget energy savings with lcd over plasma as well as less heat from an lcd etc too

        • +5

True, but you could also consider contrast and refresh rates for plasma too. Obviously you need to consider what's more important to you, but it's not just an automatic decision of LCD > plasma as many people make it out to be.

Besides, without more specs about this individual TV there's no way to know for certain what's better between them.

  • Thanks for the heads up! My besties love the Aldi coffees and it was torture trying to decide what to get them for Xmas, so problem solved! Now…just to join that first in queue….again!

  • In typical Aldi style, they imitate the major brands. The purple variety in Aldi's range is called "Reggio". The purple variety in Nespresso's range is called "Arpeggio".

Will be interesting to see how the quality compares to Nespresso. The Nespresso machines are also Swiss made - Aldi says its machine is Swiss engineered. I assume this means it's not crap. I also assume this is an established range of machines and pods for Aldi in Europe. A quick Google didn't reveal much, so perhaps the branding is different.

    • The Nespresso machines are also Swiss made

Ahh… no. I believe that some models may be. All the ones I have seen are MIC (Made in China).

I understand that the Nespressos and that other Italian brand* (name escapes me) are all made by the same Chinese supplier.

      EDIT: *delonge ?

      • Delonghi Nespresso machines are swiss made.

        • Delonghi Nespresso machines are swiss made.

Thanks for that. The name escaped me at the time. All the DeLonghi ones I saw, when I was comparing the ones with the clip on milk frother, were made in China.

          From Wikipedia:-
"Nespresso offer a number of different machines for sale. The machines carry the brand names of well known kitchen equipment manufacturers such as Krups, Magimix, Siemens, and DeLonghi, but mostly they are manufactured by the Swiss company Eugster/Frismag, one of the world's largest coffee machine producers. Although based in Switzerland, Eugster/Frismag also manufactures in China under the Krups, Turmix, Delonghi and Magimix brands. Often Krups and Magimix store display models are "Made in Switzerland" (noted on the bottom of the machine)and others machines come from China. The Lattissima models are manufactured by DeLonghi. Eugster/Frismag is little known to the public because the company is strictly an original equipment manufacturer.[4] In 2000, Nespresso began distributing machines bearing the "Nespresso" brand."

  • +1

The Samsung has a very reflective screen so although it's probably a better deal it's not going to suit everyone.

    • you're talking about the plasma screen yes?

      • Yeah sorry, I ment to reply to the above post from "carbontwelve" re the Sammy plasma.

    • What about this Bauhn, is it a glossy or matt finish screen?

      • +1

@nookular - If you buy the Bauhn from ALDI and you don't like it because it's glossy/matte/whatever you can return it within 60 days, that's one of the good things about ALDI purchased stuff.

        • True. Only problem is I live a couple of hundred kay's from the nearest Aldi.

    • Very true! Many people forget this, but glossy screens are horrible for some people.

  • +1

60 day satisfaction guarantee is pretty good plus the 2yr warranty.

  • Can Nespresso pods work with the Aldi machine?

  • I just spent more money on nespresso pods than the actual Aldi machine costs…Damn you Aldi, if only I saw this 2 weeks ago.

  • +5

A tv's a tv, as long you can see clearly and it works is all that matter, remember old box tv's, when things were not so complicated, people just bought them.

    • +3

Bit like "A wife is a wife" I guess
as long she can see clearly and she works is all that matter…..

mind you, I like a TV that is good to look at as well………

    • Best comment I've read on OzBargain. Everyone is an expert now thanks to the internet, whereas for most things it really doesn't matter.

  • Anyone tried the aldi milk frother? Is it the same as the nespresso? Cos that aerocinno nespresso is excellent. Froths and heats milk so it's very silky. I think that's what makes the nespresso coffees taste so good. $20 great price.

    • I can't say i've tried this milk frother, but aldi had another milk frother in their catalogue along side with a grinder a few months back which i bought. If they work in the same way its simple. fill up to 250ml, press the button and wait a couple of minutes. Instant cappuccino.

As for the quality? good for the price but i can't say its makes that nice smooth microfoam we have all grown to love over the years. I produces a much stiffer foam.

So if this frother works in the same way as mine does I dare say it won't be as nice as the nespresso. but for $20 why not try it out?

      • The aeroccino has a little magnetic whizzy thing in it made excellent foam. Almost as good as the real thing, and I think it's actually better for most home users who can't be arsed to figure out optimum temperature, etc. It's also great for people (like me!) who only ever get big bubbly froth from their home machines. I hate that taste haha.

I tried to buy one of those battery-operated stick things, with the mini whisk inside. Useless. I bought a fancier one for over $20. Worked just as poorly as the ones you get from a $2 shop.

Does anyone know if the Aldi ones have a magnet or do they have a whisk?

  • +2

If I had to guess, I reckon its an LG panel - they use passive 3d glasses (as opposed to Samsung), and if this includes 4 pairs of 3D glasses I reckon it's the passive ones (ie. similar to when you see a 3d movie at the cinemas) as they would be heaps cheaper. Samsung 3D glasses are > $100 each…

    • Samsung sell them for that much, but they wouldn't cost anywhere near that much to make, so there's no reason they couldn't include 4 active glasses with a TV.

  • Would buy the TV if they did delivery. Would be perfect.

  • +11

This thread is very confusing; it's making me want to watch TV while drinking coffee :)

  • I hope they are the same size as nespresso.. I know where ill be buying my coffee if they do. Wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have a minimum of $40 order with nespresso :(

    • That is true. Just a heads up for those with the nespresso machines and people looking at the Aldi "nesspresso" machine, they've released their 3 limited edition flavours on Monday. Apparently they do it every year. This year it's Cherry, Vanilla and Dark Chocolate.

  • I purchased http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49220 and could not be happier !

Buying the coffee machine for sure haha

  • One thing about the Expressi machine.

If it doesn't take Nespresso PODs and Aldi decides to discontinue making their own PODs, you're left with useless hardware. But at $79, it's almost criminal.

    • true, but it does say "always available" and i wouldnt see any reason why they would stop selling them, it will be popular

  • Mileading heading. This machine doesn't appear to be compatible with Nespresso. If they had a Nespresso compatible unit at this price it would absolutely fly.

  • At that price..it's a no brainer if you're looking for that kind of machine.

You would assume Aldi would be selling pods to support the machine, at least the length of time the machine is warranted for.

  • I have bought Aldi Espresso Coffee machine before, used for 3 years, excellent quality and extremely cheap ($50?)
After it broke, I bought a Breville, not much difference except heating up milk quicker, but it costed me $350

I have also been using a 42" plasma TV from Aldi for 3 years, very good quality too. And it was $899, compare to back then $1300+ for a plasma TV from other brands.

I really don't mind to upgrade my TV if I had that amount of cash around.

  • Would be very keen (like others here no doubt) to hear about peoples experience with the coffee maker. How does it compare to a Nespresso? Surely there isn't too much to these machines, boil water and press through pod…?

  • +2

You can't beat Krups for quality. Have a look at this deal
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56608

I've bought one of those and it's a fantastic value and has a 2Yr Australian warranty! It's built in China, but is the same technology and design as DeLonghi.

As usual, You get what you pay for!

+1 Mine arrived this week, totally in love with it

      http://distilleryimage9.instagram.com/95f2dff0109f11e1abb012…

      • Love the setup :)

Just one thing - is the base grill actually white and not chrome?

      • Nice shot! The machine looks great.

Don't suppose you're able to compare to a Nespresso? Ever had one for free at their stores or at a friends house?

Can it take the Nesspresso pods? I'm guessing it can.

        • +1

That photo IS of a nespresso machine, not the aldi one. Note sonicentropy was replying to ocujus's post about the krups nespresso machine deal. The Aldi machine is not available for sale until 26/11.

        • +1 for you ccrap.. thanks.

  • Detail on the Expressi here: http://www.expressi.com.au/

    • Thanks, so it looks like the coffee machine will be a long term feature and not just a one off special!

  • This is what they rebadged for the coffee machines, its using the "K-Fee" system, Not sure if Nespresso Capsules are compatible or not:
    http://www.k-fee-system.com/machine

Although Nespresso seems like the most popular type of "instant" coffee.
There are other types which is alot cheaper, like K-Fee and K-Cups.

You can get a K-Cup machine for $30:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Keurig-B70-B77-Single-Serve-K-Cup…

    • That ebay 0 feedback would stop me. Doesn't seem to have worried 29 others with a higher risk tolerance though.

      • Thank god you are sensible. 36 people have bought from that seller so far. I expect no less than equal that amount in negs within a fortnight from people who receive nothing!

        • Zero feedback
        • Free worldwide shipping
        • Easily goes for 3 times that price on ebay

At least it will keep paypal's dispute team busy.

        • Yup as I suspected - a scam. The listing got pulled and the user was deregistered. Not before "selling" over 50 units at $30 each though.

  • This is killing me.

Has anyone tried this ALDI MACHINE and their ALDI Coffee pods?

$79 for machine and $6 for $16 pods sounds like a bargain!

Whats the quality and taste of the coffee like in comparison to nespresso?

    • Sale starts 26/11. It's good that you can return it for a full refund within 60 days if you don't like it.
I think there will be lots of these cheap pod system machines next year because nespresso's patent expires next year which means anyone can manufacture these machines.

    • If you can be bothered, the machine is listed on amazon.de. There's about 45 reviews across 3 listings (you just need to do a translation!):
      http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_de_DE=%C5M%C5Z%D5…

On a basic level it gets average 4-star reviews. By comparison, nespresso machines get close to 5-star reviews. So dollar-for-dollar, the Aldi version is probably better value. On amazon.de the machine is about 100€. The Nespresso Pixie is about 130€.

more importantly, the Aldi capsules work out to about 37cents each. The cheapest nespresso caps are 68 cents each.

  • There will be 200 machines in each store. Also there will be a sales person in each store making coffee and showing off the machine. It's going to be good coffee.

I'm sending back my lavazza machine from blue pods.

  • anyone buy this machine or can report if the pods fit in the NESPRESSO machines???

    • i bought the machine and am going to take one of my mates nespresso pods to see if they fit in the Aldi machine. If that works, I'm sure the reverse will work.

  • Just purchased the coffee machine and had my first cup. Very good for the price and I would recommend.

    • ditto. Definitely good for the price… not sure if the Nespresso Pods would work, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

      • not sure if the Nespresso Pods would work, but I don't see why it wouldn't

        No, they're not compatible.

        • Yup checked out the pods. Different size and design to the nespresso ones so definitely not compatible. They are made to k-cup spec though and are thus compatible with other k-cup machines out there.

  • sigh! By the time we got from Aldi to home we'd managed to misplace the docket. Here's hoping our coffee machine works.

I can't say I thought much of the two coffee samples that we did try in the store, so figure I'm on the lookout for refillable pods that will fit this machine. If anyone comes accross one …..

  • Bought one this morning. First coffee was fine, then the machine failed to load anymore pods correctly. Took it back to the store; manager said a few others had experienced the same problem. Second machine seems to be doing the job better.

Definitely a step down from the Delonghi Nespresso in terms of build quality, but the coffee comes out well and for the price, can't complain.

  • Bought the TV myself, upgrading from a 4yo Soniq 42" Plasma.
Compared to the ol' Plasma, it's very very good. Not only is it a decent size, the amount of electricity it uses is amazing. Our plasma used about 360WATTS (and could only reach 1024x768 res), this Aldi uses around 110WATTS (at full 1920x1080), with a possible maximum of 140WATTS. Was very impressed. Screen looks smokey when viewed from certain angles, but the picture quality blows my Plasma out of the water.

One of the first features I tried was putting a usb key in. Tried my 16GB Voyager GT and worked perfectly (was playing a 700MB sized movie… started within seconds and no stuttering). Thought I'd get more daring and placed my externa HDD in (2TB in some standard casing … 3.5" with external power) and that worked perfectly too! Played a mkv 4.7GB file (720p) at full speed. Was amazed. No playlist support though.

The only negative is the speakers which are on the bottom of the TV. They sound like mono and aren't very loud.

TV is far lighter and thinner then my plasma… has 3x HDMI ports and 2x USB ports (so supports 2 HDDs connected). Haven't tried a 3D movie yet… the 2D to 3D conversion doesn't really work on movies but haven't tried Digital TV.

Ultimately, very happy with the purchase.

    • +1

I bought one of these myself as well and would like to share some thoughts. While it is a much better upgrade from my 32" Hisense (1366x768) there are still low performing areas which left me wonder if I should return and get an established brand.

      • Design: nice and slim, bezel is slim enough and the stand isn't too shabby either
      • Picture quality: Colour is a bit washed out and there's little fine tuning can do to improve. The TV does not allow 1:1 pixel mapping over HDMI (this is critical for me as my sole source is a HTPC). The only way to obtain 1:1 pixel mapping is to use the VGA cable, and the max refresh rate available is 60hz (which is the same as other 50hz TV's) — definitely a disappointment for a 100hz TV.
      • Turn on time: it takes up to 15 seconds from standby to be completely on and displaying content. Don't know what's the average is like but it seems a fair bit slower than my old 32"
      • 3D: 3D is passive, it uses cheap polarised glasses and there were 4 pairs included. Tried a few movies and the quality is decent but being passive, it suffers a bit of flickering which is quite noticeable for me.

Bottom line: It'd be interesting to see what the market has to offer in the next 59 days, (the 60 days change-of-mind refund policy ends after that :) I'm willing to sacrifice the 3D feature in exchange for better picture quality and proper 1:1 pixel mapping, 100hz is a must.

      Just my 2 cents.

EXPRESSIE REVIEW, this is an amazing coffee maker for the money with a wide range of different flavoured pods (9 listed from Aldi). It heats quickly and offers variable pours of 40ml + 110ml that you can vary to suit. The pods also fit the Officeworks Map Coffee Capsule(s) which cost $6.50 for 10, so much cheaper to use the Aldi ones at $5.99 for 16! After opening the pods the MAP ones have filters and are better made but the results are exactly the same and Aldi offer a better rage of 9 blends as apposed to MAPS 4 + decaff/chocolate.

MILK FROTHER REVIEW, the milk frother is very cheap at $19, it work exactly as expected with hot, frothered milk thats ready in under 90 seconds. FYI in the lid is a spare stirrer that the frother is attached too in case the old one goes down the sink (easy to do as its small and it comes with only the one frother however. BEWARE do not get the base/body wet as its electrical and water will kill it (its not waterproof!!!). Anyway it sits on its base and plugs in, fill to mark & press button. Cleaning is easy, just fill with water to soften the milk scum and then empty and wipe out… takes seconds and is easy to do. PS: if you dont use the frother you just get hot 65deg milk (flat)

OPION: Well its favourable, i have had the nescafe system and the MAP system and its as good as either of them for a fraction of the price. Pods are cheap too and ALDI are carrying a wide range. They also offer a 2 year replacement warranty in store and intend to carry both the machine/milk frother and capcuels. Even of they stop online retialers sell compatiable pods as well as Officeworks MAPs which are only 1mm shorter so they fit too.

The coffee from this machine is as good as any comercial shop bought ones when combined with the milk frother - thank you Aldi… After buying an jura ENA5 for $700 i cant say its any better…

  • Ive changed my mind, the MAP ones are way better due to the internal plastic filters, even though they have only 4 flavours.

Coffee snubs have a review thats shows a mod to improve water flow & temp (warmer for longer is better for a pour) - well worth a google
