Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus $66,900 + On Roads (Was $73,900 + OR) @ Tesla

6880

Greetings everyone, this was originally posted on the weekend but was removed due to a lack of information, but thought it was best to share again as it's a substantial discount :)

As per the Drive Article:

The price of the Tesla Model 3 has dropped substantially for the Australian market, in line with upgrades to the electric sedan's interior and exterior design and technology features and claimed electric range figures.

The base Standard Range Plus model is now priced from $66,900 before on-road costs – representing a decrease of $7000 on previous pricing – while its quoted range has received a 30km boost, now extending to 490km on a single charge (according to the NEDC test).

The mid-spec Long Range variant has dropped to $83,425 before on-road costs, a price cut of $6000, while its quoted range has climbed to 657km, up from the previous 620km (an increase of 37km).

Finally, the top-of-the-range Performance variant now costs $92,425 before on-road costs, or $5000 less than before, and offers a claimed range of 628km – marking the largest range increase in the line-up with a boost of 68km.

Surprisingly, while prices have decreased, the level of standard equipment on offer has been either upgraded or revised.

All prices listed above exclude on-road costs, but include Tesla's mandatory $150 order fee and $1375 delivery fee.

As always, enjoy :)

      • Me, because I can :)

      • Which Disco?

        • Apparently the one without the famous Land Rover Australia mark up on it. Good luck with that.

    This or eneloops?

Trust ozbgnrs to be so focused on the minutiae of this deal (aka) penny counting - and fail to see the big con / failure of personal car transport system on so many levels. Like sheep being led to the slaughter.

    • Are you objecting to cars in general, or just the electric aspect?

  • +17

A year into owning my Model 3 Performance and it is still the best thing I have ever bought (not just car). It runs on sunlight and is faster than a Lamborghini. I cannot imagine anyone going back to a petrol/diesel car, and I had nice cars before (Audi 4.2L V8, VW Golf R turbo 4, Holden 6L V8 etc)

The smooth quiet ride, flat cornering, crazy instant acceleration, high tech interior, and it drives all by itself. All while being far cheaper to run and easier on the environment long term. Whats not to love?

I still remember when I bought the first iPhone from the US before it was released here and my mates didn't like it because they preferred their Nokias because they had REAL buttons, not just a big screen. Its exactly the same with electric cars, in a few years nobody will want ICE vehicles.

    • +3

Fair enough…but what's not to love? I bet it doesn't sound like my LS3 :)

    • ^^^ My sentiments exactly, on EV's.
It's also the future, rather than the past.

Disclaimer: I love and will love ICE engines, but I'm looking at 2025/2030, when the range of vehicles and upfront costs of EV's would be vastly more attractive than it is presently.

As I've said to my 5 y.o. son, by the time you learn to drive, it'll be an electric car.

When (if ?) autonomous driving become the norm, the necessity to drive a car yourself will be like getting a helicopter/light plane license.
It's nice to have, but no longer essential.

      • The analogy I'd use is like using horses for transport. It's still perfectly legal to do on most public roads, but unsettling enough that you'd probably only want to do it on quiet streets, and there would be outright bans for non-self driving cars on many major arterials/freeways.

    • Also don't have to breathe horrid exhaust fumes. My garden power tools are all electric and I'm already on the last petrol engine in the house which is my car, once that is gone it's being replaced with electric too.

Same here, bought the performance model 3 six months ago and dont think i could ever go back to petrol.

Leave home everyday in a silent Lamborghini, total sleeper track weapon. Saved 2k (petrol versus electricity) in 6 months

at this rate after 10 years stand to save 30 - 50k solely on petrol savings.

Honestly guys, do the maths, good quality EVs will save you money long term.

      • Yh and your not in the garage changing oil every few months, guessing 1/110 things that could be wrong with your combustion engine. What’s your average range?

        • i can get 400kms comfortably, the LR is better for range but for me its worth it to beat everything that retails under 240k off the line.

  • -2

Sounds like a high yield investment opportunity!

  • +1

If only these depreciated like a euro so I could buy a second had one for 45k in 2 years.

    • +1

Sounds about right. The early Model S has done that %. Just not many people looking to sell yet as only ~1 year old. When the Model Y arrives I bet you’ll have a better chance.

  • +5

The Tesla’s have a reputation for poor build quality and unreliability. They are officially the most unreliable car sold in the USA. Go and have a look at google and see the videos about the poor Tesla build quality

      • 'Many forget that Tesla is an American automaker, but now that has been made clear since the California-based automaker is dominating the 2020 American-Made Index with 3 vehicles in the top ten.'

        American made explains that….

  • -1

can i buy all colors? XD thanks OP!

  • +1

When is the Model Y arriving?

    • +1

Probably a year away, but maybe sooner given the shift to Shanghai factory for Australia. Only Dual motor versions coming at this stage.

  • Is the power brick included in the box ?

    • +1

It used to come with 2 chargers, a mobile one called UMC (Universal Mobile Connector) which you can plug into any 10A or 15A powerpoint, and another one is the wall charger called High-Power Wall Connector (HPWC).

Since mid Oct all newer orders of model 3 will not come with HPWC but only UMC.

  • -3

I was going to buy one but couldn't get the BLM number plate to go with it

  • -4

I'm still waiting for a 1,000,000 km 20 year warranty on the battery packs.

    • +4

Oh, your current car has 1million km on it, does it?

      • No but if the battery pack is pretty much guaranteed to last only ten years/250,000 km then the car is junk. ICE cars don't have a 1,000,000 km warranty but the engine or transmission isn't guaranteed to fail within ten years like an electric car's battery, making the car worthless.

  • -1

    592 no negs .
Are all of em asleep :)
Guaranteed 99.99% coming in the betting .

    • I negged it because this is the RRP and not a bargain, but it got revoked. I've seen many posts rescinded for that exact reason.

      • Don't let it worry you. Ozbargain moderators are well known for ignoring neg rules. It's a click site and they'll keep a 'bargain' up no matter if it breaks rules if they figure it'll attract people.

  • Does the Performance variant come with Ludicrous Mode? Or, is that only for models S and X?

    • No Ludicrous Mode on 3. However the track mode on Performance variant is really cool

  • -1

How much is the service cost and the interval ? And the plug to charge is the normal 10volt or 15 volt ? How much electricity to charge from zero to full ?

  • +1

    https://electrek.co/2020/10/18/tesla-export-made-in-china-mo…

Tesla has already started to export China made Models 3 to Europe. It only makes sense for them to export to Oz as well, after all Oz is much closer to China in terms of ocean shipping.

Consensus among the Chinese auto-watcher community is that the China model 3 will continue to drop in price. They may soon drop to about 200k RMB or 40k AUD in the next year as they source more parts locally. The price has already dropped by about 20k AUD this year in China. Tesla has made a committment to source all parts in China for the Shanghai produced Model 3. When that happens the cost will only go down further.

But of course the Chinese consumers will reap the benefit of any price drop first. It is not known whether when, if at all, these price drops will be enjoyed by Australian consumers.

    • They make right hand drives in China?

      • If for export why not. Even local Chinese brands make right hand drive cars for export. E.g. Haval H9 SUV.

Just like Toyota makes both left and right hand drive cars for different markets in Japan.

    • Tesla has a very good history of passing on production efficiency savings onto consumers. The P100D cost $320k fully loaded when it launched. You can now pick one up for $161k and it's a million times better. Run out model, but it's a huge bargain for the performance.

      • That's great news. That means if Tesla starts exporting China built model 3s to Oz, and if tax is not an issue, then price will drop significantly.

        • why would china do that?

  • +2

Still way too expensive. Wake me up when Tesla releases their sub $25K USD electric car.

  • Just be aware the Insurance for Tesla is vey expensive.

    • +1

      Compared to…?
been debunked already in the thread but any comparably priced car will be similar insurance, Tesla will eventually offer insurance themselves for no doubt cheaper than most providers too.

      • Well, if you compare with Lexus LS350 silimar drive away price around $75,000. Lexus only 1k, but Telsa 3 model need 2K. Telsa parts are more expensive than Lexus, that is the main reason.

        • parts aren't the problem.. Tesla is higher price to insure because it retains more value than the Lexus longer term meaning the cost to fix or replace is higher for first few years.

Look at the earlier pages in the thread, plenty of people with Model3's in the low $1k insurance ranges. Ctrl+F is your friend.

          • -1

@xdivino: If you do your own calculation, based on the exact same data, I am pretty sure Telsa will have higher insurance than Lexus. Of course some people might pay low 1k, it depends on personal circumstances such as area, high excess fees etc.

        • -2

There is no such car as an LS350. Stop making shit up.

One day it will be mine

      • The future looks promising :)

  • +3

Thanks, OP, ordered a LR AWD. No, really I did.

  • where are the AU cars manufactured? US or china?

    • Pretty sure the current batch will be California car (especially if LR or Performance)

    • Get a Brabham BT62 if you want a Aussie made car, now that’s a high yield investment

      • Thanks. Saving up for it now.

  • +1

    How much is Model Y?

  • +3

i think the only thing stopping everyone from buying one of these is cost. once they get cheaper, EVs will be everywhere
