Good deal but the lack of an esim is a deal breaker.

    • Which provider has e sim for a similar price?

  • +1

I got one of the $180 365 day Coles prepaid Sims, it was an experience and a half getting the bloody thing activated. Coles Call centres shut because of Covid, please ring Optus. Optus ring the Coles number. So on and so forth. Ended up spitting the dummy via FB messenger to Optus. Have fun

  • +1

Just wondering, with the Covid normal a large number would work from home most days. We are told that we will be at work for about 2 days a week. So, if I use 1GB a week (500mb) per day at work, that would still leave about 1GB per month to use. So, small data allowance might be enough. International calls for a small data plan is great.

  • +2

This definitely kills the boost deal for me considering I get more speed on optus than telstra in my area and surrounding suburbs. The international calling is icing on the cake.

  • +1

Has anyone had any idea, when should i activated the service by ?

    • I moved from Boost to Coles in the last offer. Below is what I got in the welcome email

Remember you'll need to activate your Coles Mobile SIM card within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion in order to receive any special offers that applied when you bought your Coles Mobile Prepaid plan.

  • +3

Any deal on their $150 120GB plan?

    • No it's still $150 in the catalogue starting Wed.

  • +1

what is the quickest and cheapest way to test reception of Optus?
Top Ryde in NSW is quite notorious for Telstra, not sure if Optus or Voda is better and I would like to test it before commit to 1 year plan.

    • +3

Ask someone in that location who's on Optus.

    • +1

I have been using Optus for a month in top Ryde, quite good

    • +1

I am in Top Ryde as well, I was with telstra but it has no reception at all inside the shopping center. changed the whole family to optus and it was been great even in the carpark!

  • +2

When does this have to be activated by?

    • +1

I think it is 30 days but everyone wishing its longer to activate. I would lose my $15 etel sim if going on this offer.

      • +1

So if I bought the sim on the 3rd of Nov - The last day of the promotion, I'd have until the 3rd December to activate?

  • Damnit I'm already on Catch. The international calling would've been great, but alas.

  • +1

The actual package said to activate within 30 days or as per stated promotion. Not sure of the promotion mentioned it

  • +1

I tried calling coles mobile but gave up after 15 mins. Chat also success. What if we experience problem with porting? Who can help?

  • +1

Does it include monthly calls to other Mobile networks ( eg Telstra)? Or are these going to be separately billed?

    • +1

      Yes and No.

      • Can you please elaborate a bit more? My wife's mobile is Boost, I need to be able to call her, if I switch.

  • +1

Well if you need international calls fair enough. However, I bought a catch connect for $70 (when it was on special), works out much cheaper and same data. Pretty happy with it.

  • NOTE: CREDIT CARD REQUIRED FOR ACTIVATION!

System will not let you Activate without one.

They will take $1 off your credit card to test out that it's valid.

    SO BEWARE!

    • Which carriers do not require credit card activation?

      • +1

Possibly Vodafone or Aldi as my folks are with them and they don't have a credit card.

      • All Telstra
All Optus Starter Packs over $2
        All Vodafone
        All ALDI
        All Lebara

do not require a credit card number to Activate a Prepaid Starter Pack.

  • This might be good for my Dad. Unlimited calls/texts to USA and Hong Kong lets him keep in contact with his siblings a bit easier (I'm assuming the $5 extras credit won't be required for the 15 unlimited international destinations) and he could do with data (he has none atm). I'll probably need to let him use my credit card for activation.

I'm looking at the CIS for international roaming and doing some maths on cost and amount of usage:

    https://colesmobile.com.au/cms/Coles-mobile-CIS__Launch14_09_LegallyApproved(1).pdf

So it's a min of $5 extra credit for 14 days for activating International Calls, Roaming and Selected Premium Services. Charged in per minute increments. Rates as per the roaming webpage:

    https://colesmobile.com.au/home/page/roaming

From zone 1 countries (the lowest rates), calls are $1/min for making receiving calls or retrieving voicemail settings, sending SMS is 50c each but free to receive, MMS is 25c to send but free to receive, data is charged at 0.5c per 10Kb so 51.2c/Mb.

So $5 won't get one very far or much data if you're hoping to use this for roaming. Seems vodafone is probably still the better provider if roaming is important to you (not that many of us are using that at the moment).

Just got off the chat to check the validity of the sim pack and they claim it does not expire !

No need to rush into porting it over within 30days unless there is some advertised promo i.e bonus data or something you are chasing.

    Hope this helps.

*I’ve got a screenshot of the chat if anyone needs.

    • +2

Cheers for that. I wouldn't mind that screenshot if you can share on imgur or something.

EDIT: I just tried chat then. This is what the agent had to say below. Maybe a third contact with them required to validate.

The porting process can 24-48 hours :)

Activating within 30 days will ensure that you do not miss out on any advertised benefits and inclusions that you have paid for as a part of your service. If you attempt to activate outside of this time frame, this may lead to issues with activation and/or the plan activating with credit that may not align with what you had purchased. I apologise if this has inconvenienced you in any way.

      • +1

Thanks for that. Basically same message as what I got but with clarification that it doesn't expire and that the plan may change. Good to know at the very least.

        • +1

I guess we cannot delay activation for few months but few days over 30 days shouldn't be a problem.

          • @amsaini15: The letter that came with the simcard says that it needs to be activated within 24 months or it will be cancelled and no refund

            • @kodoq: It is referring to the sim card itself but not the actual credit

Coles SIM Packs do expire, regardless of what the Indians in the call-centre tell you.

It is clearly written on the back of the pack, on the bottom of every Coles starter pack.

When mine expired, I had to take them to the TIO to get a refund.

You should print out that chat above and when your $200 SIM won't Activate, you'll need to take them to the TIO for a refund from Optus.

  • My local Coles isn't applying this discount. Still $120.

    • It's in the current catalogue. Grab one and show them.

      • Did you buy it? Buy it and then grab the catalogue, go ask for a full refund to get it FREE.

        • +1

The refund only applies if it scans higher than the price on the shelf.

    • Buy online?

  • +2

    It's available online as well.

  • Would network coverage be inferior to (actual) Optus? Is there part of like an 'Optus wholesale' network?

Noob question: Also, after the 365 days are up can you recharge on the 120GB for $150 plan?

    • No.

      Only one Optus network.

      Unlike Telstra.

Bought a few for family members

Clearly says 30 days from purchase so I'm going to go by that rather than a chat transcript

  • Can anybody share network experience compared to boost?

  • So, are there any BOOST deals atm?

  • The deal is also available online at the same price, thanks.

  • +1

Hi all - if you buy in-store (or online) can you still get flybuys points for this? I have one of those spend X and get X points deals, and was wondering if this would contribute towards it…

  • Beware that some Coles Mobile SIM's may not fully Activate.

If your SIM doesn't Activate within 4 hours, You'll need to go to the TIO to get a refund, as none of the Pinoy staff will know how to fix it.

  • +1

Am I right in assuming that there would be no difference in network coverage when porting from Amaysim over to Coles mobile, because both are backed by Optus network?

  • Does anyone know how to activate optus "missed call service" ? Have texted 159 with ON, but can't activate it.

    https://www.optus.com.au/for-you/support/answer?id=1674

    • Ring 159 instead

      • Not working either

        • I would suggest ringing Customer Service but in this case, the Philippines team is more clueless than any of us.

I suggest going to the TIO so that you get into the right Network Team who can actually fix this for you from the backend.

          • +1

@nilesstandish: Thanks all. Their CS is totally useless, they don't even know what is "missed call service".

Had to google myself and got the answer.

            https://www.optus.com.au/customer-extras/answering-services

Call 159 and follow the prompts or SMS ON to 159

            THEN

Dial ** 004 * 0411000160 # on your phone's main calling app and press the Call button.

            • +2

@aknvds: Great to hear 159 finally worked for you.

Normally, you need to go to the TIO to get the right person (in Australia, not Pinoy nor INDIAN) at Optus.

I always do this as both Optus's Indian and Pinay teams are useless.

            • @aknvds: How did you get this to work?
When I try call or SMS to 159, it just tells me it can't find my service / technical problem.

Did you have to do something prior to be able for 159 to recognise your service / number?

              • @green_banana: No, only need to sms 159 and dial **004……

                • @aknvds: Interesting. Thanks for letting me know.
I tried again today, but it still didn't work.

I did read something that it needs a few days after the first port, so I'll wait a few more days and give it another try.

            • +1

              @aknvds: Works for me. Thanks.

Curious why this deal is so popular,

We bought a few because they make the odd international calls , and use 5gb per month max,
If no international calls , we would not have purchased

    • $8.25/month
Free Unlimited National and International calls.
      5 GB data/month.

Makes it the cheapest deal in Australia with unlimited international calls.

Belong and Boost are not even close to this price.

      • Agreed, price is amazing, however I would still pick Boost for the larger range of countries you can call (it is worth it for me, but maybe not for others) and also for the better service. I was with Optus prior to switching to Boost and the difference in my case was chalk and cheese.

    • Wait a second, are you only getting 5GB for each month or are you getting 60GB all at once to use at any time?

      • +1

60 all at once. but just averaged it out for easier comparison.

  • https://colesmobile.com.au/ Online still $99

    • and it ends 9/12. anyone tried in store?

  • I tested the speed of Coles mobile . Download 145m/s, upload 38m/s. I think it’s pretty good. I also bought boost. But it arrived too late.

  • has anyone ported yet?
ive ported to optus network before and it was 10-15 mins,

ive ported for this one, and its been 30 hours and still not ported
