adblock/noscript/flashblock for firefox does me fine thank you very much

  • Or if you don't use Firefox, PeerBlock with only the Ads list activated will filter the majority of ads from all browsers (I'd hazard a guess that Ad Muncher is basically a wrapper around PeerBlock sourcecode).

I've been using Ad Muncher since 1999, years before the release of PeerBlock, or even its predecessor Peer Guardian. The changelog is like War & Peace. It's not just a wrapper, Murray Hurps coded it from the ground up, really put his life into it. I find it just as good an experience as Adblock in Firefox. Might be useful for Chrome users, my understanding is that with Chrome, Adblock hides Ads, but they are still downloaded. With Ad Muncher, my 'About' page showed me having saved something like 6GB in ads not downloaded - I had it installed for 7 years.

Eventually I found I was using Firefox all the time and it was simpler to use a browser extension on my new laptop, but the software rocks, has stood the test of time and was coded by an Australian. What's not to love :) Highly recommended.

      • Good to know, thanks for the info.

      • This is no longer correct.

Chrome has had full adblock for quite a while, early versions didn't allow the control needed to stop ads being downloaded but it does now.

Adblock plus on Chrome works perfectly well for me.

    +1 for adblock plus

  • downloaded, installed but couldn't activate it. Server too busy to send out activation code.

    • +1

indeed the server is being hammered at the moment so you wont be able to activate the program since you dont get the key until the deal ends, try to activate the 30day trial mode first and when you get your key you will be able to unlock the free 12mth subscription.

    People pay for blocking ads?

    • People pay for blocking ads?

Insane. Next thing they'll be paying for music or pr0n.

You negative guys have no idea what this program can do. It blocks ads on most of the programs u have, not just the browsers. So u cant say adblock is good enough and trash this thread.

    • +1

Which are the other programs we need ads to be blocked? I might download it then.

      • In instant messenger such as Yahoo messenger and the windows live messenger to name a few, and those ads in steam game like counter strike, etc

        • Do people still use messenger software?

Thanks, but the free stuff works fine. And you're certainly sounding like a rep, the way you're pushing this software.

        • Lol do i now, hope they pay me for the stuff i say here haha.
Btw isnt this free prog for 12 months?

        • Thanks for the suggestions. but I dont use both of these messengers. Sometimes I think I am installing more software like these, antivirus, firewall, antimalware, adblock, password saver, windows tuneup, etc, etc to run windows smooth than the standard ones.
