Goddamn do I regret getting the SN550 for $170 a few months ago now

    • +23

Just enjoy your system mate there is not much difference in real world usage

      • +5

By the time that having a super fast NVMe makes a real-world difference (compared to your SN550), you'll be able to get a bigger, faster, cheaper PCIe4 drive; and retire your current one to a secondary drive. I think it will be at least 3 years before something makes the SN550 seem "slow" in real-world application.

        • +3

Well if you copy like over 10gb of files at a time, you can see the difference

          • @ln28909: only if you have one in a another machine you can compare it to .. loll otherwise you will only experience what's in front of you :P

            • @scud70: I unfortunately do, ran a dramless silicon power ssd in the 2nd nvme slot and probably should have coughed out some extra money for this

              • +1

@ln28909: ahh ok fair enough…. i was just being a smart ass with my comment :)

          • @ln28909: As long as your copying to or from another similar speed drive or you’ll still be waiting

            • @BuIIy: Yeah copying between the 2 drives for files over 10GB and you would see the speed dropping down to 100mb/s

        • +1

I get that, will probably be buying a 2TB PCIE-5 NVME SSD in 3 years and it won't matter at all.

But deep down, seeing other people get bigger numbers for fewer dollars hurts.

        • +2

I have a PCIE4 Aorus NVME and a PCIE 3 Kingston A2000 both running on a x570 Master and can't tell the difference in speed. It's all marketing bs at this point.

          • @[Deactivated]: It's not all BS. PCIe 4 is technically advanced but the human eye can't tell the difference between PCIe 3 and 4 lol

    • +2

      BRO SAME LMAO

    • Yeah prices on that have moved so much. I also bought Sn550 a few months ago. Back then that deal got 50+ up votes and now you would get downvoted to OzB hell. It happens.

  • Anyone have thoughts on the GPU? I’m considering it as a temporary card before eventually upgrading to a 3070 (or 3060 Ti). Price to performance seems pretty good.

    • +6

If you want a temp card maybe the 1650 super for $189 is better, a lot cheaper and you can sell it later and not losing much money

      • Thanks for the suggestion

        • Yeah, I bought one too.

      • Good suggestion mate! instead of hesitating between RTX3070 and 6800XT with inflated prices, I'm gonna get this one instead for now :D

    • +2

Not as good as this previous deal, but still pretty good I think. There's no delivery fee on this if you pick up, so that's a $10 saving.
I'm in the same position as you. Still undecided if I should upgrade my old system with this to keep me going. I would say what the 1660S has over the 1650S is that it's better for 1440p gaming if you've got a 1440p monitor.

    • +2

Definitely better off with the 1650s.

Or you can pick up a 1070 used for 200-250 depending on where you are.

    • +1

Thanks for all the suggestions, will probably wait for Black Friday deals before making my decision.

  • +1

970 evo plus is great, cloned my OS over through samsung magician with a usb m.2 adapter

    • +2

This deal is for 970 EVO (not plus) :)

  • I need cheap 2TB/ 4TB Nvme :(
already got 2 x1TB but thats not help

    • There was that 2TB Crucial P1 deal yesterday for $299 + post. Probably expired by now though

    • The pricing on 2TB SSDs is often higher than 2x1TB of the same model.

  • Black Friday came early?

  • +1

this one might be cheaper on black Friday as 970 evo plus was just $176 a week before

  • +7

This will surely be $150 soon (purely my own speculation with no data to back it up)

    • +2

      +1 for the disclaimer

  • Can anyone tell me if this is compatible with my motherboard, which has in the specs: "1 x M.2 Socket 3 with M Key design, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (Supports both SATA & PCIE SSD)" ,pls?

    • +2

Sounds right, M key is NVMe if I'm not mistaken

    • +1

      Yes - PCIE = NVME

  • Reminder : this is 970 Evo, not the PLUS.

  • +1

Strategy - Buy if they offer change of mind return without charge. Holding off temptation to open it until after Black Friday. If find better deal on Black Friday sales, return this to shop.

    • eBay plus gives you free returns within 30 days

  • Bought the exact same GPU for 330 last year on Black Friday
