  • Are these seedboxes?

    • Hi, no these aren't.

      Regards,
      Nathan

  • I don't understand why these VPS providers are expensive in comparison to Digital Ocean or AWS lightsail. Are there any extra benefits?

    • +1

Local hosting is expensive unless you own the DC or have large volume. Transit & rack/power costs are far higher than offshore.

    • -1

We use high-performance small nodes compared to large companies who use massive nodes with momentous amounts of RAM and VPSs on one machine. We could lower the price to match those of Digital Ocean and use the same configurations but the performance of the VPS will suffer and if one node goes down, so do all the other servers on it. None of our nodes go above 70% utilization and we provide 24/7 All Australian Support. We can customise any plan to fit anyone's needs and can do so very quickly. We value our customers when larger corporations may not care as much if you have a technical issue or problem as they know that they have many other customers. There is a big difference between the two in performance and in support.

      Regards,
      Nathan

  • I feel Australian prices are always way too inflated. There are so many competitors globally offering better specs

    • +1

The bandwidth costs in Australia compared to overseas aren't even comparable. Australian data is very very expensive and always has been. The ability to have your server closer to your customers can make a huge difference in performance and latency.

      Nathan

  • hmm, does code works on "KVM Dedicated" ??

    • -1

Hi, at the moment we don't have any room for them as we have sold out. We are awaiting new nodes for the Dedicated KVM range.

      Regards,
      Nathan

Hi, I'm just here to let you know that we have some stock and room for our KVM Dedicated in Sydney. Contact us (here via PM or on our site) which plan you were looking at and we will be able to apply the coupon for you now that we have a bit of room :)

  • I got one of the small 1GB servers last time it was 50% (so $4 per month) and it works well. I've ended up getting rid of it because I often use these VPS's for hobby stuff like trialing apps/web servers etc so prefer the more expensive Vultr/Google cloud versions which are billed by the hour (I often use 10-15 hours per month max).

Overall it feels a little slower than the Vultr/Google cloud equivalents (because I think they can boost above 100%) but from what I understand these are managed a bit better and in saying that I've felt a bit of slowing at times from Vultr (generally at peak times).

One thing I must say is the support is amazing, they were quick to assist and responded within minutes not hours/days like other providers.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. What do you mean by feels slower? Are you referring to the network or CPU? We'll look into it.

      Regards,
      Nathan

      • +1

To be honest I'm not sure and it could just be me imagining stuff but I thought I done similar stuff in the past faster on other servers. The network was great so perhaps something else was at play.

I might fire up a Vultr server over the weekend and run the exact same process side by side to see if there is any difference.

Either way, the service is a great price and offering for being based in Australia but it's just not for me given it's billed per month.

        • Please let us know the results. We have monitoring that constantly monitors all services and processes and we are very strict with the less than 70% utilization promise. We also do benchmarks and network speedtests regularly to make sure there isn't anything wrong with the system. If you were downloading a package it could have been slower than usual as sometimes, depending on the OS, it selects a US mirror and not an Australian one. If you change the mirror to an Australian mirror, all Linux package downloads and updates/upgrades will be very very speedy as we have direct links in the DC.

Thanks for choosing us and supporting a local all Australian business :)

          Regards,
          Nathan

  • Was excited to see this sale for an Australian NVMe VPS, but it does look expensive, even compared to the Australian companies such as Quantum Core, Binary Lane, and a deal i got with FlowVPS, and Quantum Core and FlowVPS are both NVMe.

Having said that, I find Australian VPS to be higher quality, speed and reliability compared to the USA ones i have tried

Ozbargain was running on Binary Lane for a few years until recently.

It all depends on the node hardware and how it's all configured. Our NVMe pricing is higher as we use small high-performance nodes instead of larger ones typically used in VPS hosting. When your node is configured with 32GB of RAM and with a 70% utilisation limit, there is only so much you can fit on. If we were to use different configurations with more RAM used in typical VPS hosting nodes, we could achieve much cheaper pricing. For us, we stick to smaller nodes as the difference in performance per VPS is very different compared to the larger nodes from our testing.

      Regards,
      Nathan

      • Thanks for the response Nathan, very interesting.

  • Is there an disk i/o limit?

    • Hi, no not directly. All of our systems are monitored 24/7 and if there is excessive usage that affects other VPS experience then you may be asked to move to our Dedicated KVM range. We haven't had to so far as generally, people do not max out their VPS 24/7 for days/weeks on end. That would be the only reason for us asking you to move services.

      Regards,
      Nathan

  • What happens when you exceed your monthly data transfer allowance? I can't find this information on your website (please correct me if I'm mistaken).

Also, there's no link to your knowledgebase that I could see until I entered the "client area" (i.e. https://billing.serversgalore.com.au), which I didn't originally do because I assumed it would lead to a login page as there is a key/lock icon next to the text.

I've used BinaryLane in the past, and they briefly cover quite a lot of useful common questions in their FAQ which is nice, including the question I posed to you above.

    e.g. https://support.binarylane.com.au/support/solutions/articles…

    Just some food for thought.

    • Hi, our knowledge base link is in the Client Area under the "Knowledgebase" tab next to "Announcements". You can access it here https://billing.serversgalore.com.au/knowledgebase. As for the data, you are notified when you reach certain levels and we will contact you once you reach the limit and if it is close to the reset date, we will not suspend the service and let it slide. If it is frequent and ongoing then we will ask you to either upgrade to a higher package with more data or addon a data pack. We do not suspend services if it is a once-off increase close to the reset date. We only suspend when users reach the limit constantly without correspondence or any contact to us.

      Regards,
      Nathan
