I thought the Dream Machine would be like.. an air purifier, or a speaker for whale sounds

It's a really fancy router for other ignorant people like me.

It's a really fancy router for other ignorant people like me.

Nah, it's really more for tech-savvy people. :)

      • But not for DIY enthusiasts who'd rather build their own pfsense box and put the controller on an RPi or google cloud.

I'm getting one for the convenience though. Along with another 2 AC-Lite's, but will do my own PoE.

        • But not for DIY enthusiasts who'd rather build their own pfsense box and put the controller on an RPi or google cloud.

There are also DIY enthusiasts who would appreciate the ability to manage their router, managed switches, access points, VPN bridges, and CCTV all from one interface. :)

I'm getting one for the convenience though.

Yeah, it's nice having it all in one device. Fewer cables running around.

@eug: No i meant time convenience. I work with enterprise gear by day and the last thing i want to have to do when I get home is more IT, configuring firewall rules, patching software. So UniFi is very appealing for that. Some of my collegues are happy to be playing with pfsense and pihole for home - tempting but I am time-greedy.

  • $230.26 for the nanohd his the cheapest since covid as well.

  • Just paid about $100 less for an iPad Air 256Gb. Is it worth the extra $100 to get the 128Gb 11” Pro?

    • +3

No, they’re physically identical, with the following differences:

iPad Air: Stereo speakers and TouchID in the power button, 500 nits display
iPad Pro: Quad speaker system, FaceID in the bezel, faster and brighter 600 nits display, slightly faster processor

        Promotion

      • Eh. You forgot the most important difference. Ipad pro has pro motion @ 120hz. Ipad air is stuck in 2010 @ 60hz.

The feature alone is worth $200 - 300. If you find yourself ever using an apple pencil then you need to get the pro.

They didnt forget, they noted " faster and brighter 600 nits display".

        • So it’s worth the extra $100 (128Gb instead of 256Gb on the Air)?:

          • @gasman70: The 120hz is so nice to use. But if you NEED the storage you NEED it.

            • @miicah: To be honest, it’s not really needed. It’s for the Mrs and she barely stores anything on it.

              Seriously contemplating getting the pro.

              • @gasman70: I am torn between the 64 or 256 air, because when I go higher storage, might as well go for the pro instead.. how much did you pay for the 256 air?
