15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

@Levathian: This message will self destruct in T minus 5 seconds.

  • +1

    sold out on hurstville NSW

  • +2

Whilst most of the discussion has been on HIM/HER cards, I assume the Google Play and Nintendo eShop cards are a lot less popular and hence likely to still be available at most stores?

    • +1

Plenty still available at a few of the Coles I went to in Sydney (Google Play and Nintendo). I guess it's because they are discounted more regularly as opposed to the other TCN cards.

  • -3

i am unable to use this GC online on jb website. as the card number is 1 digit extra than allowed at jb checkout to enter. also kidsgiftcard website says jb intore only. can anyone help how they used these online?

    • +1

They can't be used online, only need to be used in the store

    • +1

They can only be used in-store. Unless you managed to swap them in-store for a JB gift card (think some people did it successfully).

  • Can we still swap them into JB gift cards or do I have to buy something and return? Anyone have experience with the buy something and return route, do they question you much?

    • +2

They told me that if I'm paying with gift cards I can not return/refund. Can they legally enforce this rule??

      • +4

Don’t think they can do that. The worst case would be a store credit.

  • Any idea how regular stock will be replenished? Went to five Coles today, and all empty.

    • +1

None of the staff will know.

From what I was told, a third party restocks the gift cards and they also don't know whether the new stock will be discounted as well.

      • I imagine a rep comes in and restocks them.

    • +1

Which 5 Coles? Wish people would mention where they’ve been to save us all a trip

      • +3

Yokine, North Perth, Subiaco, Leederville, and Floreat.

        • +1

Cheers I was thinking of just ringing around rather than driving but I bet they’re sick to the back teeth of people calling and asking about these cards

  • Probably not going to be re-stocked, I guess Coles lose money selling these gift cards.

The series of cards are meant for fashion outlets, possibly an oversight that they include JB HiFi. They did not anticipate most people go there specifically for the cards, in large quantities, and without making other purchases.

  • -4

Can somebody explain his to me, I can't wrap my head around this.

I want to spend $3000 at JB. If I try to buy 1x $100 gift cards from the TCN website, it tells me that I can't spend above $350.

Is this why people are going in store?

What is the best way for me to get the $3000 worth of JB gift cards then?

    • +2

Firstly you can’t buy the gift cards from the TCN website if you want 15% off. You have to get them instore. They come in $30, $50 and $100 denominations. You can only buy 5 at a time so you’ll need to make several trips to make up $3000.

Lastly there are pretty much none around so good luck to you!

    • People buying from Coles is because of 15% discount.

There's no discount buying from TCN website. So the $350 limit is irrelevant.

      • -2

Okay so I just went down to my local Coles and they had 9 on the shelf of the Him gift cards. I didn't see any 15% off signage anywhere.

So if I clear them out, $765 of gift cards. Then I transfer those cards over to the JB card, or I can use that card there straight away in store?

They were closing in 2 minutes, so I thought I'll come home and think about it. I can go back in the morning for them

        • 1) It's on Page 6 of their current catalog:

15% off Nintendo eShop, The Kids Card, The Teen Card, The Him Card, The Her Card, The Cinema Card, The Pamper Card, The Pub & Bar Card, The Restaurant Card and $50 & $100 Google Play Gift Cards

Excludes $20 and $30 Google Play Gift Cards. Excludes The Home, The Online and The Baby Card Gift Cards. Limit 5 Gift Cards per customer. While stocks last, no rainchecks. Offer valid from 25/11/20 to 01/12/20. Refer to individual gift card for terms and conditions. Google Play and the Google Logo are trademarks of Google LLC.

          2) Correct, if there are 9 x $100 of qualifying cards, you pay $765. Need to buy separately due to 5 cards limit.

          3) Make sure you buy the correct cards. Not the Ultimate cards for Kid/Teen/Him/Her, but you would known because the Ultimate cards do not qualify for discounts. Also, the correct TCN Kid/Teen/Him/Her cards have JB HiFi logo printed on the sleeve.

There's is no need to "transfer" the cards to JB HiFi cards, anyway they won't let you now. People did it initially because there was a 5 card limit, so they transfer the balance of multiple cards into a single JB HiFi card, there is no limit now.

Another reason is that these cards expire about 3 years, JB HiFi cards don't expire. Doesn't matter if you are going to use them straightaway.

          • @browser: Thanks for the help.

What do you think the chances are of Coles actually imposing the 5 card limit? Could I sweep them all up?

And how do I tell if they are the Ultimate gift cards? The ones in store had this larger type of brown thicker boxed section at the bottom, which just looked like some fancy packaging and notes inside

            • @jdib: I read at first they didn't care, people was able to buy 10 or more in one transaction.

Now the cards are in demand, very high chance they won't let you buy more than 5.

But since you are only buying 9, just buy 5 and then go back for the other 4. Go to a different counter, of use self checkout, yes you can buy gift cards through self checkout.

The Ultimate cards are issued by a different company, it says: The Ultimate Gift for kid/teen/him/her.

The Card Network (TCN) cards just how the big word: KID/TEEN/HIM/HER.

              • @browser: Legend, thanks for the heads up.

One last question, do I need to redeem JB gift cards with these, or do I use these at the counter of JB myself?

                • @jdib: You can use the gift card directly as payment at JB HiFi.

                  • @browser: Thanks a lot for your help mate. Greatly appreciated

                  • @browser: Do you need to activate them before you use? Thanks

  • +8

For Sydneysiders confirming that the following stores were out of stock of the HIM/HER/TEENS/KIDS cards today: Chatswood Chase, Neutral bay, Balgowlah, Warringah, Manly Vale, Manly Peninsula, Dee Why, Revesby, Caringbah, Oatley West, Leichardt, Roselands.

Pretty sure my petrol cost more than what I saved considering I only ended up with 3 x $50 cards.

    • +1

Not to mention, if you went searching yesterday, your aircon on max.

  • TCN website doesn't even mention their cards being available at Coles:

    https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/faqs

BUYING THE CARD > Where can I buy your Gift Cards from?

We've made it easy for you, you can buy our gift cards by browsing through our site or at any Woolworths store around Australia. Just look for the big gift card stand in stores!

  • -3

    More chance to getting them
1.Busier Coles, more often restocked, more stock.
2.No Rich Suburbs, Rich people buy expensive stuff which cost more giftcards. It takes 20 $100 giftcards for one macbook or 40 $50 giftcards or 67 $30 giftcards.
3.No Asian Suburbs, Asians love sales, I pretty much see only Asians at the gift card aisle.
4.The more inner city, the less likely you will find large stacks of giftcards.
    5. Outerlying suburbs near the edge of the city is more likely to have giftcards.
    6. Rural suburbs have plenty of giftcards.
7 .Look for the poorest and most dangerous suburbs.
    8. If you haven't had any luck finding giftcards, maybe stop doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Not very useful as I've left out some trade secrets but you will achieve your hunt much better. JBHIFI deals run out on the tuesday so you guys have plenty of time.

    • mtdruitt, blacktown, liverpool, and penruff all sold out. I guess I could ring up winmalee as that kinda meets one of your criteria.

  • -1

Does anyone happen to have pictures of the correct cards?

I was at Coles Vic Gardens today and they had $100 cards with HIM written on them and a JB HiFi Logo (and more with various values with HIM, HER, KIDS etc.). I think the backing card said Ultimate Gift Card. I didn't get a photo.

While I was looking at them a staff member came and started removing them all saying they were not the the ones eligible for the discount. Now I'm totally confused :-/

    • +2

Click on the links of the cards above. Same colour and format.

    • +1

Why the downvotes? Seems like a reasonable question that would also help others avoid buying the wrong cards (apparently happening a lot).

      • +1

Down vote because it isn't hard to look above you and their is a sign with a picture of what the discount cards look like….

        • +2

The original photo for the deal was the header strip of the gift card rack with the offer text. It didn't have a picture of the eligible cards.

Also many people are confused by similar cards in racks where the eligible cards are all gone. Many buying the wrong cards by mistake with no refunds available.

Also there were comments about different print versions of cards which adds to the uncertainty.

Also I would normally try to find a similar question / answer in the comments but 24 pages is a bit too much.

Neggers…this is meant to be a community website where people help each other out.

We have been to more than 40 Coles in Melbourne South East, North and Western suburbs over the past 3 days. We only managed to get $100 giftcards on the first day - it was the Him Fashion Card without the JB Hifi logo so there were heaps. Over the past 3 days we have managed to get a total of $3200 worth of gift cards at Coles Richmond, Ringwood, Broadmeadows, Campbellfield, Balwyn East, and Glenroy. We used the Him Fashion Card to do a purchase at JB Hifi so can confirm that they do work even without the JB Hifi logo on them.

    https://imgur.com/OMFGz0t

Don't think it's possible to get more than 5 per person at each store, because most of the time they are behind the service counter and you will need to ask. Staffs do remember you. We also encountered a numerous of families with kids who were super excited hunting for gift cards.

Even though you cannot check the stock availability using Coles app but you can check which types of gift card they have, and if the gift cards are displayed in aisle 6-7 or at the service desk.

To save everyone time, below is the list of Coles we visited and left empty handed.

I found stock in my Coles, 5 minutes before they closed so I didn't buy.

They had a brown looking larger bottom section that was almost a thicker box type. Are these type not the sale cards?

      • no. see the picture in the comment you replied to. they need to look like those.

    • +4

Jeez have to admire the dedication lol. I gave up after 2 Coles.

  • Anyone tried using the Pamper ones @ barber shops?

  • Couple of Restaurant GCs left in $50 denominations @ Coles Port Melbourne.

There were a plenty of Pubs and Pamper GCs left @ both Port Melbourne & South Melbourne.

None of Him, Her or Teen unfortunately.

  • +2

Just FYI, I returned the MacBook Pro I bought using TCN GC and the refund goes to the JB GC.

    • Thanks for sharing! I shall do that then haha did they ask you any questions?

      • +1

No questions at all, the refund process only took 5 min as I returned it sealed :)

    • Planning to buy something else with the gift cards or wanting to sell the GC?

      • +1

Hoping to buy iPhone 13. I know it's still 1 year away, but that's exactly why I want to convert TCN GC to JB GC, so I mitigate the risk of TCN dropping JB down the line.

        • Ah good thinking

        • Yes that missing logo on the new cards

          • @King Tightarse: I have HIM cards without logo, I was told by TCN that they are older printed cards, I doubt tcn will print new cards without JB hi-fi logo as their website currently shows JB hi-fi as retailer where one can use… So Def ones without logo are older printed as tcn recently tied up with JB hi-fi

Also, I'll be worried if they drop JB hi-fi, I have 15 cards accumulated, add o want to buy next year's MacBook air with hopefully M2 processor…

            • @somethingnew: Well as per Ozmosis above, you can always buy something that price matches you TCN cards, then return it.
You will receive JB hifi cards and they have 36 months to use.
Its a bit of mucking around but it locks it in

        • +1

          Forward planning.

          • +2

@quarrymaster: Bought iPhone 12 yesterday. Returned this morning. Basic questions (why are you returning?) asked, but I just said wrong present then they processed it into JB gift cards for me.

            • @trippyskippy: @trippyskippy How many TCN giftcards did you use to purchase the iPhone 12? Any problems using more than 5 cards?

    • Did they ask a reason? Do you have to return to the same store you purchased from?

      • +1

Be prepared for basic questions like "why are you returning?", but as long as it's sealed and unopened then it should be fine. I think you can go to other stores as well, but I went to the same one, because I live really close to it.

    • Did you use more than 5 x TCN cards to buy the Macbook Pro? Any problems with that?

      • +1

I used 37 to buy iPhone and no questions asked.

        • +1

Wow, nice. This is good to know. There are some reports in this thread of $500 max being allowed per transaction, so hoping that doesn't occur.

I was just rejected tonight in exchanging 5 x TCN cards for a JB Hi Fi one, so think I need to go the same route you did.

          • @dubo1981: Yeah I tried doing that first too, but the JB staff was like "That sounds very dodgy to me. I don't want to lose my job."

  • If anyone is in Newcastle they have stacks of $50 him and her

    • Which stores specifically?

      • +1

        There was tons in Belmont

  • Loads of cards at Brimbank (Vic) Coles. Mostly 50s only tho. Near the freezer section.

    • Called them just now and they have none left lol

      • What the heck lol. Do you reckon they just don’t understand what you’re referring to specifically and just saying there’s none or if people are just jumping on them lol.

        • Na, it seemed like she knew straight away what I meant when I said HIM or HER gift cards.

          • @BarginGrabber: That's crazy. One person must've came in and cleared them out. There were lots of teen ones too. Tonnes of restaurants and bar ones too.

      • Can confirm, they have none of the discounted cards (Kids, Teens, Him, Her) on either card display at Brimbank.
Edit: They did have the other cards, however

  • None in Cannington WA. Sucked in to ferals that pushed in front of me.

Is the "go digital" link working for anyone?

    • No. They better fix that up. I don't wanna be carrying them around to use them.

  • Thanks Op.

Bought 2x Him and 2x Her $50 cards from Coles Lake Haven (NSW) a few hours back and got the 15% off.

Plenty of all types of cards still there.

  • -2

some desperadoes in this thread lol

  • -4

Don't waste your time. I went to buy some the other day of the teen and kids cards and when they didn't scan at a discount through the staffed register the lady told me these weren't the ones on sale. So I didn't buy them. When I got home I re-checked the catalogue and they were actually the ones on sale. So coles has false advertising or an issue with the scanning. Either way I feel ripped off. Not happy Jan.

    • Just to be clear, it was TEEN and not a teens card right?

  • SA Stores: Rundle Mall, Grote St, Unley, Kurralta Park, Anzac Highway, Glenelg, Edwardstown, Marion, Warradale out of stock. Plenty of the $50 Him/Her/Teen cards at Aberfoyle Park.

    • add Findon and Welland all out.

  • +1

Is this the right (old) card? No jb logo

    https://imgur.com/gallery/QfExG68

I don’t need it but if anyone in sth east Melbourne wants to know where happy to share

    • Yeh it is the old card. Can I know where did you find it? Thanks

      • +3

        Lynbrook Coles

        Not on the end aisle.

There is a free standing display as you walk towards the fridge/freezer section.

It’s on the free standing display. I may have moved the cards to behind another ‘card’ to save it for someone who really wants them.

  • Would the cards need to be registered online to use them?

    • +1

They're the equal of cash. So if you lose them, they're lost. You can check balances though. Full FAQ HERE.

      • +1

        Thanks for that!

      • +2

Thats not entirely true. If you register the cards then they can issue new one for you if you lose them

  • -4

Plenty of gift cards for all the categories mentioned up at Sunshine Coast- Coles North Shore QLD. Need to mention they have new retailers on these new cards so if you only want JB then you are out of luck since myself and another lady purchased most of them. No limits on the number of gift cards either.

    • Great, I'm in Melbourne when am I allowed in

  • +1

I call a Coles and finally found some stock, so I make sure it is the right one, I ask does it have jbhifi on it? Yes, is it the discounted ones? Yes great! Can you put it on hold for the next hour? Sure I can do that.

20 mins away but idc anymore I drive there and I go to the counter….they left the brown HIM cards for me.

I was legitimately so annoyed and tried my best to stay calm dunno how clearer I could have been about which cards I needed.

If there's no stock by tomorrow afternoon, I'm done with this bs.

Family member said they probably sold it to someone else who wanted it, fine then don't say you'll hold it for 1 hour.

    • Same thing happened to me. They don’t really care if they get it wrong they still get paid.

      • I think my family member is right and they just sell it to Whoever comes afterwards or it's a lack of communication and some co worker sells it

        • This is Australia not Japan so we can't really expect much. Coles just doesn't deliver…

        • +1

I was lucky, the lady who pick up my Phone call kept it aside for me when I was 10 min away and she told me to pick up at the service desk and I did. May be because the staff in regional Victoria are better than the one in metro.

  • +1

Seems still many the restaurant and pub gift card, why people are not buying them? They are just EFTPOS card, right? Just like cash? Any EFTPOS machine will take them I guess?

Is there a way we can put them in mobile phone go digital not carrying physical cards?

    • -2

They aren’t. They only work in certain pubs/restaurant not everywhere
