Went to the local Telstra store who couldn't be bothered explaining the details and said if I leave telstra I have to pay the full retail price. Waiting time of 2 hours in an empty store

Got my local OW to price match for $749

    •

they should be beating the price by 5 percent not matching it right?

      • +1 vote

Sorry, yes they will. Just spoke to the guy on the phone that approved it. That will be the case. Picking it up at lunch.

    •

Got OW to price match and beat by 5%

    •

I called in OW and they said its not "unlocked" and went on and say this is outright but still locked to Telstra network. I was wtf, hang up and called the 2nd operator and got through, PB @ $711.55!

      •

Yeah they tried really hard to deny it. They tried the unlock route at first but I was firm in telling them no, it's 100% unlocked. Then they tried to tell me you have to be a Telstra customer to purchase and I said no, you can checkout as a guest. I asked for an email address where I could send them a video of myself going through the checkout process if they don't believe me.

Eventually they accepted but they're saying it still needs final approval from management.

Expecting them to match Telstra's price shortly.

Can confirm JB HI FI will price match, just got mine at the Knox store

    •

can you post receipt? i asked my local yesterday and they said they probably wont.

  • +1 vote

Bought online from Telstra - Outright - 749.

  •

Was really hoping for a good discount on the 4a 5g, but nowhere it seems to have one, a good deal on the 5 but was hoping not to spend that much.

    •

look at my comment on the first page, you can get one pretty cheap.

  • +2 votes

Placed an order over the phone with Officeworks (1300 633 423). Order was priced match plus 5% saving. Delivery on Monday 30 November 2020!

    •

Just did the same, the operator mentioned that it has to be approved by the manager before the sale is final. Was it the same with you?

      • +1 vote

Yep, same. Had to be approved by a manager to finalise the sale.

      •

Mine just said they had lots of callers for the deal, and made no mention that it had to be approved. She just said it would be delivered Monday.

      •

Just did the same, great price $711.55 and was told delivery should be Monday.

I haven't got my confirmation email yet but my card has been debited, so hopefully will come through soon.

        •

Just received the email confirming order processed and delivery on Monday, 30 November 2020.

          • +1 vote

@blazezs: What time did you place your order?

            • +1 vote

@allstars09: @allstars09, order was placed at 9:27AM. Confirmation email arrived at 11:48AM.

  •

Just got denied price-match from JB when I called in. This was probably Highpoint or Maribyrnong store. Saying they phones are locked to Telstra, which I am pretty sure is false.

    •

They think so from their console tell them its Outright and is unlocked.

    •

They want to get away with PM, using stupid excuses.

  •

Price matched over phone at officeworks for delivery $711.55 !!

  • +1 vote

Why do I always get the idiots at officeworks? Local store refusing to price match due to "needs to be on a plan and we don't have it on a plan"

    • +1 vote

That's one big mystery. The other day, I got refused for a Monitor price match. My brother got it approved from the same guy with the same link later during that day.

    •

Call the 1300 number - it was a breeze.

  • +4 votes

Ozbargain was down before? I think Ozbargain got Ozbargained !!

  • +4 votes

Officeworks 'Technology Department': Yeah nah we can't price match because it has a different processor so it's a different phone.

    Idiots.

  •

    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/mobiles-on-a-plan/g...

    Discount conditions
Google Pixel 5 RRP $999 $250 discount applies as a credit over the chosen device payment period and total savings are based on staying connected to any month-to-month plan for 12 or 24 months. If you cancel your plan, the discount will not apply to any remaining amount outstanding.

But shows as $749 on checkout when buying outright online, weird

    • +2 votes

I bought it outright with credit card for $749

      •

I did the same but got no order number. Just an invoice. I don't know if my order is confirmed.

    •

Yeah I reckon buying it outright should be fine - what are they going to do, charge you at a later date if you cancel? Buying it outright at a point of sale shouldn't be beholden to contract conditions, it's in the name.

    •

I purchased it with monthly payments without adding a plan. Not sure how that works. Got an order confirmation: https://pasteboard.co/JCdkZtK.png

      •

That's just weird. I got a price beat from Officeworks in the end. $711.55 and no worrying about whether they'll send an invoice later for the $250

        •

I think I understand after reading this on the checkout page: "Repayment options are for Telstra post-paid customers only. Things you need to know"

Then when you click on "Things you need to know"

Only customers with an existing eligible fixed or post-paid mobile service, or new month to month plan are eligible.

I have a month-to-month broadband plan (no post-paid mobile plan) so I'm assuming that's why I'm eligible for repayments.

    •

This only applies to the plans. The $250 is applied over 12 or 24 months when you add the phone to a plan.

If you're buying the phone outright, you get the $250 discount upfront.

  • +2 votes

I don't get why everyone is trying to price match JB… Officeworks (well maybe this for the pricebeat)… when you can order from telstra.com the outright price, including delivery??

    • +2 votes

You must not know about the gift cards

      •

Ohhhhh… right, right. Anyways, I was after a sage green, which no JB's or Officeworks near me seemed to have. Also I think if going through telstra.com, might be eligible for Shopback too?

  • +1 vote

Just got it for $711 via officeworks over the phone. The guy was a bit reluctant, said the Telstra one might be locked but he couldn't find any definitive proof so he said he'd put it through anyway.

  •

Did anyone get an email order confirmation when price matching with OW?

    •

Not yet. Ordered 20 mins ago

    •

Not yet. Got a reference number. They said there'd be 2 emails coming later, one to say processing, one to say approved. Needs to go through an approval process due to it being more than 25% discount but they said that was an "automatic process"…

      •

Just logged into my OW account, order is there, processing.

    •

Yep, email received confirming order! Delivery Monday, 30 November 2020.

    •

Ordered at 9.45am, still no order confirmation

Can you still get a Google Nest Hub Max with Google Pixel. Can anybody please confirm. Thanks

  •

Another successful price match at Officeworks over the phone for $711.55.

  • +4 votes

I feel like this might be shut down soon as I waited 40 mins on the phone for sales. NB: They will only match 1 unit. I tried to get 2 but no dice.

But can confirm price beat at OW $711.55 delivered. To save time just tell them its SKU: BRGA01316 Price beat is for the Telstra Outright Unit at 749. Not the 12 24 month plans. To speed things up have your OW account # details and ready to punch in your CCard details.

    Confirmed!

OK price matched over the phone with OW for $711, woman was lovely about it and didn't question it at all.

Now to hope for no screen gap

  •

    Thanks OP and @gjm71013
    $711.55 from Officeworks.

  •

not able to connect to the local office works.
which store did you all call to get a price beat

    • +1 vote

I went through their general support line (1300 number) since all the stores in a 30km radius were either out of stock or were a question mark.

  •

Got Pb at officeworks as well. Hopefully the they honor the deal, it's clearly a pricing glitch from telstra

  •

So going through the checkout process on Telstra allows you to purchase the device outright without a plan for $749.

Pixel 5 at Officeworks Price Beat for $711.55???

  •

I don't think you can just cancel after 1 month and get the $250 discount.

    The T&C's state the following:

    "Google Pixel 5 RRP $999

$250 discount applies as a credit over the chosen device payment period and total savings are based on staying connected to any month-to-month plan for 12 or 24 months. If you cancel your plan, the discount will not apply to any remaining amount outstanding."

    •

That's right, but for some reason the telstra.com website has been configured (potentially incorrectly) to process outright handset purchase (no plan required) at the $749 price. So the reference here (for people price matching/beating) is not the wording or advertisement of the Telstra deal, but rather the currently configured Telstra online store.

  •

Confirmed! Also if you are getting more than one. Just sign up using another account # Email and you can use the same CCard.

The PB at office works on hold, at least thats what I've been told :(.

    • +2 votes

Same. got told they're reviewing the PB offer and will call me back….

      • +1 vote

Will go with Telstra outright if no call back in an hour

        •

Yeah, hopefully Telstra won't go OOS

        •

Ditto, the girl on the phone said their Team Leader has placed a hold on this and will call back to advise if they can price match it. Furthermore, they reckon they can't price match the Green as it's out of stock, and they may only price the Black… the girl was apologetic and nice, and I can tell she was caught between a rock and a hard place :(

          •

@DonIsGood: Oh! shoot it don't have the patience. I called up JB-Hifi and they said will price match but no stock ..Grrr..
I went ahead with Telstra deal and hopefully will have some cashback using Cashrewards

            •

@PinchFist: Try calling OW them again, I just scored success!

            •

@PinchFist: I took your approach and went ahead to make a purchase with Telstra, as I cannot trust OW in honouring the deal

              • +2 votes

@DonIsGood: They will now, just got called back from the first OW operator confirming that their managers approve this deal.

                •

@Hellcrusher2903: Thanks .. Ordered from OW (ready for pickup on Monday) and cancelled Telstra Order :)

              •

@DonIsGood: My Price beat experience has always usually been good at OW. Had multiple things matched and successfully just did the pixel 5 too

    •

I felt this was coming as it was a long wait for me on the sales line. Usually its under 1 min.
Also she knew about the PB and initially said its pending manager approval but took my order any way.

Saw the credit card charges come in about 10 mins after so phew. IBTL

  • +3 votes

after a HUGE amount of effort I finally got it at officeworks for $711.55: https://i.imgur.com/68W5dog.png

The manager initially refused stating telstra require a plan, I called officeworks online and they said to show him the big "purchase outright" button and click checkout. That convinced him finally and he apologised.

bonus ozbargain savings: bought through company so I get $64.69 GST back and reduce my taxable income by a further $646.31, after 27.5% tax rate total cost $468.58! (I hope I did that maths correctly :p)

      what a flex

    •

What is officeworks online contact number??

  • +1 vote

After some serious convincing Officworks Coburg VIC did the price beat for the Pixel 5. They have two black left (at 11:00) if anyone is interested.

    •

While doing the PB they told me there is no stock anywhere for the phone in vic so I asked them to do a click and collect instead of delivery to home. I guess black was avaiable and sorta sage was out of stock.
The guy did mention that they are going to put a pause to the offer just after my order went thru (apparently) I am just hoping they won't back track coz payment has gone thru

  • +1 vote

Went down to local Officeworks, after a 50 minute debacle of whether it is locked or not, they refused. Called up head office, really nice girl, stated they were looking into it, but could put it through at the moment. All paid for the $711.55. She said at end that it needs manager sign off because of the large discount, but said there would be no issues! So hopefully there isn't… so just waiting for my confirmation emails etc. now.

    •

I asked them how it makes sense to buy a phone OUTRIGHT from a Telco (not on a plan or with a sim), and then it be locked to them? Only situation this would work in is if you are already with the Telco… Asked where the disclaimer is to see that it's locked - and they were clueless. One of the staff actually said that it should be approved, couldn't see why not, but other two were like hounds attacking with no proof. It was as if the PM was going to be taken from their pay…

  •

FWIW, declined on Telstra website twice (outright) and [worked third time] OfficeWorks via phone are saying they've been notified they cannot price match/beat until further notice.

  •

Called OW twice and finally got PB offer for $711.55. Happy now!

  •

OW price match on the first attempted via phone just now

  •

Managed to price match at JB Whitfords. Used majority gift cards and the rest on card. Guy was very surprised about Telstra doing an outright deal but was very happy to oblige

    https://imgur.com/a/KzEQCdi

    •

      FYI. PM about details

  •

Is the $250 applied to the phone contract at the price of $749 for pixel 5 or credit off the RRP $999

  •

Correct me if I am wrong, but it looks like JB has pulled the Pixel 5 from their website? I can't see it at all.

    •

Lol, can't find it neither now. Must be updating the price

  •

OW Toowoomba refused. The Telstra website doesn't list a model number, they then phoned the local store who said the purchase had to be tied to a plan/locked to Telstra, despite the option to purchase outright online.

I'm just going to purchase direct from Telstra.

  •

For us who have price matched through Officeworks head office over the phone, and have had the money taken from our accounts, what's the chances of this actually being approved? I haven't received confirmation as of yet, but the money is definitely gone! Think they will come back and pull some excuse and refund?

    •

I got a "ready for collection" message within 30mins of my order.

      • -1 vote

You must've got in early, those of us who called within the last 2 hours have our orders still in the Processing status

        •

No, I called twice. Second time success was at 10.01am

          •

@Hellcrusher2903: must be lucky, because as you can see by the other comments, many are in the same boat as me… still waiting for order confirmation, but they've charged our cards already

            •

@S7iCkSt3R: scratch that, looks like they are confirming people's orders now, but mine's still Processing :(

            • +1 vote

@S7iCkSt3R: Still waiting for my confirmation here. I just called up again, they checked my order and said it is still waiting managers approval.

              •

@td93: We must be waiting for the same manager then… I guess I'll keep waiting

                • +1 vote

@S7iCkSt3R: I'll let you know if I hear anything!

@td93: Hey mate - I just received confirmation! Hope you have too.
