Is it safe to buy from the Telstra site? I get all the way to the payment page. No mention of a plan.
Will it likely be locked? I currently use a Pixel XL how do I go from sim to e-sim?

I am with Optus and plan to stay with them for spots.

    •

"For existing Optus customers with an eSIM capable device you can switch from a physical SIM to an eSIM via My Account, heading into our retail stores or by messaging one of our service experts."

  •

I went to OW in Glebe & they sold out 20min before. I was able to order one in & do price match.

  •

Has anyone tried pricematch with Harvey Norman?

    •

Match, but wont beat. Then declined as it's supposedly 'online only'.

  •

Manged to get it outright from Telstra online for $749 no month to month. Go to Telstra Black friday deals > Devices > Outright Devices > Google Pixel 5 > Choose how you’ll pay (12mths, 24mth or Outright) Outright > Buy Now. Took a few goes with error at payment time but went few in the end.

    •

Yep thank you Bennyboy84,just ordered as you described, cheers

      •

Did you get an order number? Or just an invoice number.

    •

Do you have a plan with Telstra? Won't it be locked to Telstra's network?

  • +1 vote

Got this priced matched with jbhifi after getting the $59 with $500 gift card plan today meaning I only had to pay $249 upfront for the phone.

    •

Which store if yo don't mind me asking?

  •

Got it from JB Hifi Woden earlier today, just showed them a screenshot of the webpage.

  •

I'm in QLD, tried 3 different OW to PBG @ Underwood, Oxley, Loganholme all won't do it. They all said the phone it's LOCKED to Telstra. One guy even called Telstra shop directly, no luck at OW. Got it at JB Loganholme 749 showed Telstra website, the girl did not ask anything else happy to do it, in and out the shop in 5 minutes.

  • +2 votes

Both JB and OW has taken the pixel 5 off their website.

  •

Has anyone tried an OW price beat after it was removed from the website?

    • +2 votes

Yes I tried it yesterday evening in store. First OW I tried, rejected saying it was locked. Second one manager was like wow he couldn't believe how cheap it was but accepted the price beat anyway. Roll of the die

  • +2 votes

I've tried office works just now.. it's not even in their systems to be able to order
    EDIT:
I went to another store and they were able to find it using the little cardboard paper code. Good luck guys and girls!

  •

I just put one through on the Telstra page as per instructions before. It says the item is not there but it's processed my payment and in the confirmation email it states the pixel 5 black 128gb

  •

Just read somewhere that the Pixel 5 doesn't support microSD cards to give you more space to work with i.e. it is restricted to 128GB space.

    Is that correct?

    •

      Yes

    •

Yes but you get unlimited Google photo upload to save space.

      •

I'm pretty sure they're changing the storage space to 15gb from July next year.

        •

That I believe was for new Pixel going forward (aka 6 and above)

          •

@cloudie9: It's for all non-pixel phones, I don't believe they've confirmed what the next generation gets yet?

        •

          Not for this gen pixel.

  •

Just did a price match on this phone at JB HiFi in Leichardt. The lady I spoke to was awesome - she said only one other person had done it and it was yesterday. The deal was so good had to check with the manager, but that took all of 10 seconds once I could show them it was still a deal on the Telstra site.

If you pair it with their Telstra plan they'll give you a $400 gift card to use towards the cost of the phone, if that's your thing.

Anyone else received their Pixel 5 from OW online order already?

Price beat with OW yesterday over the phone and received the phone this Saturday morning around 9am AWST.

Despite invoice saying dispatch date on 30/11/2020.

    Happy days :D

    • +1 vote

OW is awesome. Ordered 2 then another one to try my luck.
Just picked up all 3 units this morning. OW logistics FTW

Are those going up to Gumtree/ eBay?

        • +2 votes

Na. Black mine. Sage wife and Sage dad.
2 x Pixel 2 and one XL going on gumtree soon.

    •

Just got mine delivered at 7.20 am sydney

  • +1 vote

Went to my local OW only to be rejected cus the Pixel 5 with Telstra would come with their branding while OW has no branding. Oh well, headed over to JB Parramatta where the manager was more receptive but rejected at first since he thought it was an only online deal. Showed him the catalogue picture which states you can go into a Telstra store and that changed his mind.

  •

How many years is the warranty for the Pixel 5?

    • +1 vote

Should be two years as standard

  •

Got the phone from my local outlet a few hours ago (ordered from warehouse and click-collect) Ive used officeworks for most of my computer and related purchases, but overall they are quite better from the telcos atleast.
With PB guarantee I am gonna stick with them for future purchases as well.
Also, saw the Telstra flyer on my insta, they are selling the phones at $750 outright, so it's not a glitch. It's an actual deal. I think Telstra marketing and communication is completely clueless with their sales and promotions

  •

So, anyone got the low down on reasonably priced case? Preferably from a bricks and mortar, Amazon has some OK ones that with Prime should get here by the end of the week, but would prefer sooner.

    • +1 vote

Progadgets is where I get my Spigen ones. Not bricks and mortar, but 20% off at the moment

    •

I've ordered the ringke fusion military camo one off ebay. I've had the ringke on my pixel 2 for 3 years and served me really well, coz I don't use screen protector on my phone. There's gonna be a long wait coz of delivery time so using old phone till the case arrives

  •

Are you all loving the Pixel 5? Thinking of getting one, coming from a Pixel 2 XL but worried about the size difference.

    • +1 vote

Coming from the janky S20 FE which I returned, I honestly feel like the Pixel 5 was a huge upgrade. Very happy with the phone.

    • +1 vote

They are both 6". Pixel 5 is a bit narrower.
I was concerned with this too but having almost the same size screen but smaller phone feels really good…

    • +1 vote

Just set it up for dad.. Holding it is a bit of getting used to coming from the 2XL.
The physical size of it is smaller but screen is same. Dropped it twice already :(

    • +1 vote

The difference is smaller than you might think since this is edge to edge while the 2xl has a bit of a forehead and stuff.

  •

Just bought one from JB Hi-Fi Parramatta for $749. :)

  •

Hi, I went to JB in Melbourne today and got one for $749 after showing them the Telstra deal. Hope this helps

  • +1 vote

For those who ordered through Telstra.com, have any of you gotten any further order / shipping updates yet…?

    •

I just received a bill estimate this morning.

I opted in to the device repayment option on to an existing plan. The bill estimate shows the Pixel 5 at $999, credited back at $999, but they've added a 'Hardware Repayment Offset' of $250. So first month is the $31.20, plus a $3.12 pro-rata + $250 device repayment offset.

As it's just an estimate I'm not too worried, but was a bit of a surprise. The $250 should have been the discount amount…

    •

I ordered outright on Friday, but other than the initial e-mail "receipt confirmation", have received no further info since - am wondering if just to cancel this and try for the Officeworks price match…

edit: Well, gave OW a call, and they report no stock of either model any more. Hopefully the Telstra order comes through…!

    •

Nothing yet beyond the initial receipt email. I had selected no plan/outright. Will update if/when I hear something.

      •

UPDATE: just picked it up from the post office. Happy!

    •

I have not, just an invoice number. I'm trying to cancel it to be honest and Telstra customer service is a bloody nightmare. Thank god I price matched through jbhifi. At least if i have a problem there, I can just walk in a store and get help, unlike Telstra stores 1 and a half hour wait for a service rep….

    •

I'm in the same boat - ordered through Telstra for $750 outright, with no plan selected. So far I haven't received anything apart from the initial receipt email. Will update if I receive anything else to follow up on the order.

    •

      Same here.

Every OW and JB in my area refused to price match as they all claimed the "locked to telstra" excuse.

I ended up getting through to telstra support( after like 2 hours), who confirmed to me that the outright purchase was NOT locked to the telstra network.

Tried all the stores again, which were all still refusing. Finally put through an order on telstra website just to try and wait for them to deliver, but have only received the invoice and no actual order number.

Concerned to say the least, the invoice says we should get order confirmation within 24 hours.

Then I see all the success stories here of people walking into JB's or OW's and getting them in 5 minutes and it makes me jealous.

What a shitshow of a deal lmao

  •

Damn! Hope the Tesltra ppl don't stuff u guys up. I am happy that I went thru OW, the phone was delivered for collection the very next day, their logistics was amazing

    • +1 vote

Ordered from Telstra on Friday and received a dispatch notice this morning.

      •

Was it an outright order for you? I ordered on Saturday and still waiting to see if they'll honour it.

      •

Ordered outright on Friday, around 11am, nothing yet besides the automated invoice. Hopefully they are fulfilling them today, especially now the deal is over.

        •

I had the same issue. Chased up online support and yesterday they finally gave me an order number. Never received an email confirmation though. Today, Telstra Support says that they need further proof of identification and that I need to go to a store.

To actually get my order number I had to provide them with the last 4 digits of y credit card and the date and time of my order. Although I ordered through my Telstra account the system is screwed.

      • +1 vote

Ordered Sunday afternoon, received this morning.
Delivery person also asked to see ID before handing it over.
I did log into Telstra when ordering. Not sure if that makes any difference.

Edit: besides the initial order confirmation email, I didn't receive any other correspondence.

  •

late to the party, called the OW 1300# they pulled from website as they are out of stock

    • +1 vote

Ring the stores near you to check if they have stock. Ask them to use their handheld stock check device to look up BRGA01316 for Black and BRGA01986 for Sage. You'll then have to go in store and do a price match.

      •

thank you I did that, went to the store and they refused to price match saying it was locked to telstra, condition of buying was to get a plan with telstra. tried to argue but no use.. left and called the 1800 number again, they asked for my postcode and located the stock and put the order though! thanks ozbargain team <3

        •

How did you manage to do this with it off the website?

          •

@nbar: when I called back I said I was looking to price match the pixel 5 with Telstra, operator asked my postcode, he said there was stock in my area and then proceeded with putting the order through. I didn't even have to tell him it was available outright etc etc, presumably he had done several orders already. Have already got confirmation email

            •

@motherdough: That's odd, when I called, the lady just said she can't find it on the website and tried to tell me that the 4a 5G is what I'm after instead. Couldn't do much past that lol. Called back and I got the same lady :(

              •

@nbar: have you checked stock around your area? maybe you'll get lucky and get a price match by going in store. looks like some others have tried successfully

                •

@motherdough: Yeah, I was planning on giving that a go later, hoping for the best. Cheers for the info!

                  • +3 votes

@nbar: Update: I ended up getting it done last-minute at the first Officeworks I went to! The guy who served me was lovely and got it done quickly, I'm assuming he had done a few of these over the last couple of days already. Excited for the new phone!

  •

Are people still trying to get this via Telstra? I had a look this arvo and its showing as back in stock and available to order in My Telstra app

  •

Got the "locked to Telstra" excuse from the manager at JB Hi-Fi Hornsby. Pathetic.

Went into Officeworks Hornsby. They have never received stock yet and were not aware it had been on the website. Phoned Officeworks today, was told it went out of stock on Friday by a rude lady probably sick of the Telstra price-match requests, and that because Telstra is on backorder they can't price-match. Got my request passed up the line and they found one of each colour in the warehouse (or maybe from a store)! Got one in Sage coming in a couple days for $711.

This will be replacing a faulty Pixel 3 which is being returned to Google under warranty. Have been dealing with them since early September.

    •

No, not yet :( When had you put the order through?

      •

        Monday evening.

  • +1 vote

JB hifi has mysteriously put back the pixel 5 online again. Conveniently after Telstra's black friday sale.

  • +7 votes

my Pixel 5 just mysterious arrived at my doorstep (via startrack courier) like 15 mins ago!

I ordered from Telstra with outright option and I'm not a new/exisiting customer. I placed my order at 10am last Friday, only ever gotten the invoice and never received any order confirmation nor reference number. And it just showed up!

    •

      Thanks chchchcherry!
I put in an order last night and thought it was strange that no confirmation email came through. Was getting a little nervous. Will sit tight and hope it turns up.

    •

That's promising. Support is telling me they cannot find my order. So I'm hoping mine comes soon. Except I wont be home to receive it because I'll be at work :(
Was hoping to have an order status so I could plan to be home

    • +3 votes

Hi all, I've also just received the Pixel 5 from StarTrack within the last hour. I placed my order through the Telstra website on Saturday (bought outright) and never received a shipped email notification.
      Good luck all!

    •

      Update:

My fifth Telstra agent was somehow able to do something the others couldn't and locate the order.

I was given a StarTrack trace number showing my suburb and that they had attempted delivery this morning.

Will have to organise with StarTrack to redeliver or collect.

So to anyone else that is having trouble with Telstra or waiting, they are coming.

And they CAN find the orders somehow. I think they pulled up all the invoices for that time period and located mine, and found some sort of internal reference to the order that is different to the order numbers they email out.

Any of the agents that can't find your orders are probably just looking for standard orders which don't exist.

  •

    Concerned for my Telstra order.

Placed it at 10am WAST after all OW and JB's denying me a price match.

Telstra support keeps telling me they cannot locate the order.

Anyone had any luck through telstra?

    •

Did they take the money for it?

      •

Yep I've been charged as of Friday, but support can't find the order =\

  • +1 vote

Telstra customer service doesn't have a clue.
I placed the order with Telstra on Friday, and cancelled it same evening, was assured that it was cancelled.
Received the phone today, have rejected the delivery, hopefully will get a refund in a day or two.
I am not much hopeful, might have to dispute the charge with the bank.

    •

Pretty much the same with me. I was eventually told yesterday that i'll have to reject the delivery so that they have it returned and I can get a refund. I can't believe they are so incompetent that they can't even cancel an order. Now I won't be able to get a refund for a week or so while I wait and hope that telstra refund the rejected delivery.

  • +3 votes

Good thing most ppl went with OW, the interaction with them was professional and pleasant throughout.
You can always count on Telstra to fk things up, only thankful for their marketing team for coming up with this price (in error)

  • +2 votes

Got a text message from Telstra saying eligible for the bonus Google Nest Hub Max with a code and a link to claim through Google. My wife got it as well.

Anyone else? I got two pixels at the Telstra store but signed up to monthly repayments for both devices.

    •

That was the deal they had before the Black Friday deal. Did you manage to get both? pretty lucky

      •

Yeah, claimed both. Was not expecting it since I read that it was pulled.

    •

      Got this one too!
10/10 experience with Telstra and I'm not even a Telstra customer!
Bought the the phone outright (cash) through my brother's account as per the suggestion from the guys at the store. He wasn't even there, they just asked for his name and phone number.

  • +1 vote

I had bad experience when price matched with JB Hifi. When pointed out Telstra was doing outright deal without any need to sign up plan, the store manager said he is running a business and cannot do a loss money transaction. He asked me to go sign up with Telstra instead.

Apparently JB Hifi only price matched depending on store manager's decision if they making money or losing money.

    •

I had a JB lie to me on the phone saying they had no stock so couldn't price match, then when I went into the same store to double check an hour later they had plenty. The managers were just not wanting to price match.

Even after I showed them my purchase receipt from Telstra showing you didnt need to sign up and could buy outright they till refused.

    •

PB is always a store's decision. Some stores deny it flat out or try to find fine print so they don't have to do it
Mostt of the time the stores take a huge loss, I used to work for Flight centre as Assistant manager, and have rejected them quite a few times.
PB just works on the assumption that customer will stick to the store for future purchases coz of goodwill, but doesn't always work though.

    •

I had the same experience. Don't worry, JB are terrible.

  •

my officeworks order just got delivered. it is a pixel 4a 5g… why

Edit: called 1800 number and got it fixed

  • +2 votes

I was able to see the StarTrack tracking number in MyPost account on auspost.com.au. No email notifications from AusPost but apparently it was there, shipped from NSW on Monday.

Turns out the MyPost account is good for something. it must automatically match any AusPost/StarTrack booking that corresponds to my name and address.

    •

Great tip, I can verify this is showing for me this way too

    •

holy shit mine is in there too, I wish it would notify when it auto adds new deliveries

      •

Yeah I expected it would always email but it didn't this time. Can't see any setting to enable it either.

    •

hi Sinusoidal - what does "Sent By" showing on your MyPost tracking?

      •

Mine shows something like "Sent by PO 830101xxxx". Guessing that is just the specific
Telstra shipping agent account that was used.
