Funnily enough out of all the X570 mobos MSI has almost half of their lineup have the crappiest VRM layouts yet this one they somehow didn't screw up. MAG TOMAHAWK definitely not a slouch.

    • +3

They didnt screw this up because this came out just recently, a year after all the earlier flops. That is to say, they had to come up with a product which didnt suck.

extra $13~ for cc surcharge and delivery fee kind of kills this deal.

    • $9.90 delivery fee and a 1% surcharge. Total is $322.09 for me.

Then you can get it cheaper via eBay using GC and CB.

        • Link? Also what is GC and CB. Thanks.

            • @ATangk: I bought this motherboard a couple days ago, shame I didn't see this deal. Thanks for the info though. Hope your method helps others.

            • @ATangk: Hi mate,

Any details on the 9.09% off eBay gift cards from woolies?

  • I bought one a few days ago from Futu on eBay for $340 all up. (20% discount)

    • Should have waited to stack with 10% shopback and GC and get it under $300.

      • I guess I need to hand over my OB membership card 😢

        • +1

Haha, I got my x570 tomahawk for $310 about a month ago. Not quite sub 300 either. 😢

@ATangk: brag post… when shopping express did last x570 price special… i managed to price match and got 5% off $309. The staff member stuffed up because they thought it was shoppingsquare and also didn't add in delivery cost.. roughly $293 and i paid with 5% ebay vouchers from shopback.

          • @ATangk: Did you have to bios flash for Zen3. I tried the flash process the other day (still waiting on the CPU) and after 5 minutes it reboot and then nothing. Hope it worked, hard to tell!

            • @vr0ssi46: Yours sounds like it worked.
I flashed it way before I got my 5900x, so I can’t be certain it needed it, but it worked first time.

              • @ATangk: Ok cheers!

                • @vr0ssi46: I mean if you want you can flash it again, just have to watch for the light flashing at the back, it isnt an actual light, the whole usb port lights up.

                  • @ATangk: Getting the cpu tomorrow so if it doesn't post will try it again.

                    • @vr0ssi46: Which one did you get?

                      • @ATangk: 5900x

                        • +1

@vr0ssi46: Nice, I've got the same one.

I remember having my entire computer assembled a week and a half, fully wired up and ready to go. Waited seemingly so long for the 5900x, but dropped it in and it fired up right away no qualms.

                        • +1

@vr0ssi46: If you don't mind me asking: how much did you pay? Around $859? I'm trying to decide between 5800x and 5900x (software dev)

                          • @RichardMelbourne: Yeah sure, so I got scalped @ MSY for 949 but I paid it willingly knowing that I had upcoming time off from work and limited time to build. Will likely claim CC protection in due course.

I would suggest the 5900x, I feel it is worth the additional premium above and beyond the 5800x. Really comes down to your use case though.

"Offering a DIY friendly and loyal comrade motherboard that features an enhanced performance, In-Game advantage which makes it all the more exhilarating and inspiring"
You seriously going to tell me this shit wasn't written by a 14 year old?

    • 🤣

      Thank you "loyal comrade"!

    • I love gamer marketing, it's so edgy and funny imo.

  • How is this one compare to Asus Dark hero viii ?

    • About 40% the cost.

    • This MSI motherboard is comparable to or better than much more expensive boards. IDK how it matches up with Dark Hero VIII though. This MSI board is one of the best X570 boards.

    • This one is not your enthusiast board imo

Not really sli capable, you'll be bandwidth limited

Pretty bad for ram overclocking, I've tried 6 pairs so it's probably the board or I'm just never winning the lottery

No dynamic OC so you'll lose a decent amount of performance on a 5900x and 5950x

Also no monoblock for it, so bit of a shame for watercooler

No clear cmos button, so if you have a loop with a vertical mounted gpu, you're only option is to flash bios after a failed overclock. Cmos jumper is too far away to wire it to the reset button (I think)

So generally only good for people that just want something that works

      • I wired my cmos to reset, never used it.

      • Whats dynamic oc and how do you lose performance on a 5900x or 5950x without it?

        Is it related to PBO?

        • PBO gives you better single core clock than manual OC, but manual OC gives you better performance in multi-core load.

On a normal board, you have to choose either or, but the dark hero let you do both at the same time

So you would also lose performance for 5600x and 5800x but their core count is low so it doesn't matter too much

Still waiting on pulling the trigger on this one.
How long do their sales usually last (assuming no stock issues)

just a friendly reminder that cyber Monday is next Monday

  • Does this one have a thunderbolt 3 header?

Can anyone confirm that PCByte is an MSI partner for the AC Valhalla redemption?

    • +2

PC Byte shows on the MSI website as an option for "where to buy" if that means anything.

      • Thanks I couldnt see it when i searched only showed mwave and a few others. I think thats good enough for the redemption as i cant find a specific list

EDIT: I can see why it didnt show up its under Auburn and not Sydney… :)

  • +4

This is one of those deals where "is it worth waiting" comes to mind, especially as PCByte have no Ryzen stock of 5800x or 5900x nor the ram im after to cut down on the postage charges… and Cyber Monday is coming up and this board is fairly well stocked elsewhere..

    • +1

Absolutely, I'm in the same boat man. The lowest this has been is $300 I think?

    • +1

Just thinking about hunting down good prices for more than a few components over black Friday stresses me out. Close enough is good enough just for my own sanity, I'll get this one and be happy with it.

      • Agreed. I don't want to risk missing out and having to pay full price so I'll just pull the trigger on deals that I can live with.

  • Is this for AMD chips?

    • Yes. Zen 3/ryzen 5000 cpus will require a bios update though.

      • noob question, you can update the bios without a cpu?

        • Only with motherboards with BIOS flashback. This motherboard has that feature.

  • One of the best X570 boards with a saving of about $40.

  • X570 issues with HP Reverb G2, just so you know
