  • How does this compare to the 70S5 deal? I'm tempted to get this but 70S5 has Dolby vision and Dolby audio.. but S8 should be better than S5

    • +7

Hisense's marketing strategy seem to be to confuse the customer as much as possible.

    • size vs quality. up to you really whichever you prefer.

      • +6

Nothing worse than a big TV that looks terrible.

      • So you're saying quality of S8 is better than S5? That's based in the price diff of S5 and S8 models across the range ? But then Dolby wouldn't certify a crappy quality tv.

        • +2

I think you're on a different tangent. S8 is definitely a better picture quality than S5. You might need to visit a store to clarify it for yourself.

And also, for any TV I wouldn't rely on the internal speakers. Get a decent soundbar or amp/speakers if you got space. Haven't used TV speakers in over 7 years. They're all sh*t.

          • @aurotaro: Have a Dolby Atmos soundbar connected via shield tv. So asking more for the picture quality. Went instore but they didn't have any display models for the 70S5. 65S8 looked good though.

            • +1

@Dealayed: I'm sitting infront of the 70S5 right now watching Fox Sports Ultra HD and the picture is fantastic, can't fault it. Everything I've watched so far has been stellar for a cheap 70" TV.

  • Is this good for playing games?

    • +1

Monitors will always reduce input lag. I'm sure it works well for a majority of games if you're not tryna be a 1337 g4m3r.

Any thoughts between Hisense S8 vs TCL P715?

    • +1

      I need to know too!!

      • I got the 55" S8 few months back. Its great. TCL P715 is an android tv, where hisense 55 s8 is VIDAA. But the picture quality is definitely better in Hisense.
I have a mibox connected to it.

        • I was leaning towards TCL as it's an android tv. Don't really want the hassle of having to buy another device like chromecast or mibox to be able to cast to the TV, not to mention it's another thing to clutter the house.

  • Is this a good price? very tempted, but so many deals going around these days..
the problem is the OS.. would much prefer Android TV. do all hisense come with this VIDAA?

    • In Australia, yes.

      • I got confused (bought a Sony TV 15 years back). Is VIDAA better than android OS?

        • no, android will always be better as it's open to install apps.
keep in mind TVs are "Android TV" or the new name "Google TV"
although it's based on android OS, it's not the same and you can't install all the android apps, just a subset.
probably one of the reasons for the rebrand to "Google TV"

So $45 discount on a $900 tv? People seem desperate for a Black Friday bargain?

Maybe $900 was a good price to begin with for a hisense 65” (compared to the Eko / Kogan/Aldi types )

    • +1

Its already discounted from 1395 I believe

      • +2

Ah ok, yes makes sense then you are right

    • it's been $1395 for 3 months at JB

  • Thanks OP, impulse bought for spare room.

    • Thinking this for my bedroom. Finger can't pull the trigger.

      • Welcome to the club. I'm going to wait till boxing day because I'm not in a hurry.

        • Yeah same. If this was qled I would hit the buy button.

S5 vs S8 differences i could find on hisense website:

    S5 only does 2.4ghz wifi
    S5 has 8watt speakers

    S8 2.4ghz and 5ghz
    S8 has 10 watt speakers

Now the wifi is important for me as I have a microwave that causes havoc for 2.4ghz. The speakers is like comparing crappy speakers with hot garbage so negligible.

One more caveat the Hisense site does not have the S5 70 inch only the s5 58inch so these differences may not be correct

How is this TV for watching sport?

  • Will JB price match?

    • Spoke to them earlier today. They dont price match ebay

  • The only issue is the O/S. I wish it was Android. Need to install plex and Kodi.

    • +1

I've got an N7 from 2018 and it has Plex installed on the TV.

  • Does this have Disney+?

  • Has anyone had luck getting a local Good Guys store to sell for the same price as their eBay shop?

    • The eBay store definitely has limited stores for C&C (forced to do delivery). They generally don't price match eBay discounts but can always try your luck !

  • This is a great TV for the price although I paid around $900 for it a year ago. Picture quality is excellent and it comes with all the main streaming apps installed. I've never used the speakers, but why would you?

    • +2

      How is it for sport?

      • Seems good to me. I really only watch sport on the optus sports app using chrome cast though.

When we bought it we were planning to spend $2k+ on a better brand but this one stood out compared to other more expensive TVs in store.

    • -1

      For sound quality.
For people that can tell the difference.

  • What options do I have to watch optus sport with this TV ? Which Android box would you recommend ?

PS: I dont play games so I probably wont require a top notch solution like Shield TV.

    Thanks

    • Vodafone TV seems the best option for Andriod TV. Controller is Bluetooth so can attach the box to the back of the TV out of sight and it works perfectly.

      • Thanks, will Fire TV Stick Lite do the trick ?

      • forget it.. Vodafone TV or Foxtel now puck as extremely underpowered and slow.
better to get a mi box or a chromecast with google TV.

      • Vodafone tv box not available anymore.

  • Postage is 1k?

    Out of Stock?

  • Any idea how this one compares with Hitachi SM20 65 inch which is Android TV at $999 currently?

  • postage $35…No store near me for click and collect….

  • How well does this model stack up against their Q8? the 65Q8 is currently $1000 more https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hisense-65-inch-q8-4k-uled-s…

    • 65q8 has full array dimming and quantum dot.

The 65q7 can be had for $1205 with cashback, as far as I can tell the only difference between the Q7 and the Q8 is the speakers.

  • Amazing TVs. Always buy Hisense now over Samsungs.

  • why? whats your justification? just price?

    • Maybe he works for Hisense.

      • No just an overpaid Public Servant. Basically quality is the same as Samsung for a cheaper price and good warranties. 4K panels look amazing.

  • $832 C&C if you buy online via shopback

Need a van if you cannot take the TV upright. They will not let you lay it flat in your car.

      • +1

        Not in my experience.

How exactly would they stop you?

      • Yeah they will
I bought the exact same tv from jb yesterday. You just need to sign a waiver saying you’ve been told not to lay it flat and it’s not their responsibility if there are any issues when you get it home.

      • Yeah, I learned this the hard way today.

Measured up car and concluded it would fit on an angle. But, of course, this is not an ideal way to transport a TV and therefore voids the warranty. Delivery tomorrow it is…

FTA picture quality for me really sucks. Looks washed and black levels are more grey than black. I am expecting too much? Maybe it is the setting. Can someone send over the picture settings please.

  • The 55S8

    • That’s what bothers me when buying a cheap LCD. I’m still using a 10+ yr old Panasonic plasma. Picture is perfect.

  • The only thing I will miss in that price is built-in google chromecast. TCL tvs at this price point comes with built-in chromecast.

  • Played a blu-ray disc and it is just as bad. No defintion at all and colour bleeding. Do I contact vendor or Hisense for a replacement?

    • It must be faulty. I have a 55N7 and I am very happy with it. The picture quality is comparable to low end LG and Samsung tvs.

  • Good price, but doesn't have amazon prime on it.

  • Chromcast free or no?

  • Price gone up to $995

  • Is this one or Q60T 75" as budget is less than $2k. ?

  • so any feedback from the buyers so far on this model? I was contemplating buying this but it was too late. Hopefully it will be advertised again for this price soon.

    • I know everyone have different opinions but I will say don't buy this tv. The picture quality is shit. Looks washed out and grainy. I had the previous generation tv 55N7 which was better than this surprisingly. Don't just go for a bigger screen just because it's cheap. Go for a smaller one from a better brand. I am trying to sell mine now.

      • Thanks. I was impressed with the backlight dimming feature which I dont think you will find in <1k models. I thought this is meant to improve the quality. I'm trying to see whether this is better than the EKO and TCL c715 - both are similar to this.

        • Where did you find the TCL C715 available similar to this price ?

          • @koolchamp81: sorry 65 TCL probably around $1000 but I was looking at 55 TCL.

        • I read lot of issues about TCL tvs. Check whirlpool forums. They are not just about picture quality.

          • @apprentice: Waiting for Hisense 85q8 or Sony 9000h price to come down.

            • @koolchamp81: I was in the same boat but got tired of waiting for a good deal and made a rush decision to buy 65S8. Not sure if the prices will go any further down than the black friday price point.

              • @apprentice: Yeah, the sales this year haven't been really good. And moreover , when you need to buy it then you pay the best price at the time. Just enjoy ur new TV now.

  • How are others feeling about this TV?

I 'upgraded' from a 49“ Sony X70F. I'm finding the picture quality to be washed out and grainy on this Hisense 65s8 when streaming Netflix.

I'm unsure whether the problem is in my streaming quality or the TV itself. Viewing distance is 2m for me. With the larger screen, I suppose picture quality and low-res flaws become more apparent.

I've set stream quality to high but my internet connection is pretty slow so I'm not sure what's being delivered. Cheers Netflix for giving us no way to tell…

I find the TV to be quite good for gaming. I'd like to test a high quality Blu-Ray but don't have a player. Keen to hear others' experience.

    • Try YouTube 4K video. YouTube let’s you select the steaming quality so you can change to lower scales to see what is comparable. Not quite same test as Netflix’s compression would be different than YouTube but at least you know if your tv has any problems.

      • Ahhh yes indeed. Thanks for the tip :)
