How does this compare with Acer Swift?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/587181

    • This over swift. The shell on this would last. It is a tank. Lots of corporates use these. You see some of the x250s still kicking about now like 10 years on. Swift would fall apart around 2nd / 3rd year.

Swift looks like 4 core not 6 core like this one.

Corporate users tend to lead heavily towards the Lenovo T, X, P and possibly L series,

The E-series is the pro-sumer model which lacks the premium materials found in the T-series. so you shouldn't expect to see a magnesium-alloy roll cage and carbon fiber.

        • +1 E series are definitely a step down but they're good units for the price.

Free ram slot here is great, keyboard is good.

The downside here is the screen, because I've seen better backlight and color reproduction on a Gameboy Colour

    • You're forever stuck with 8 GB of RAM on the Acer Swift due to soldered RAM.

The Lenovo has 1 vacant RAM slot.

On top of the other comments:
      - This has a shutter for the web-cam to close off when unused
      - Has an IR cam for Windows Hello face-unlock
      - More sturdy hinge mechanism for the screen that goes all the way to 180 degrees

      • This laptop theoretically has an IR camera to support Windows Hello as mentioned in the tech specs. However the only "current model" they have for sale is in a configuration with a regular non-IR camera, and there's no option to customize it.

    • swift is more portable but less upgradable.

Runs hot and has an average screen. Did I mention it runs hot?

    • Yep, it's an average screen.

However, I've only ever used it in day-to-day tasks and have yet to run into the running hot issue? It doesn't seem to be any toastier than any other laptop I've had and I don't think I've experienced any throttling yet. (Not that I was paying attention or monitoring, but usage has been pretty much uneventful)

The only two dings I have against it is the touchpad no longer has an option for momentum/inertia. And the fact that for the years I've been using Lenovo's this is the FIRST I've had that has required spudgers for opening!

  • Hey guys, how do I apply the Shopback cashback?

Anybody any comments regarding the dell ebay deal or this one:
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-New-Inspiron-15-5505-Laptop…

    • No opinion, I bought the Dell: 15.6" (maybe dim, but also got the $219 QHD 27" monitor deal); non soldered RAM (plan to add 8Gb dual channel bump to performance (?), can do same with Lenovo); 512GB SSD on Dell. Choice appears to depend on mainly on screen size, SSD, looks and build quality

      • yep….had the same conclusions and bought the Dell also..
SSD was a plus plus the fact that you can add 2x16GB for dual channel use on the Dell, which (I think) might be a problem with the Lenovo.

That promo code isn’t listed on ShopBack or Cashrewards so you won’t get the cash back

    • Yeah I thought so, it wasn't working for me. Cheers for the comment.

    • Removed from the description, thanks. It worked with the deal on Black Friday, interesting they don't have it today.

    • It's a code given by Lenovo on their site, you will get cashback with Cashrewards at least.

      • Yep, I tried this with Cashrewards - seems to have worked …

        • Tracking is different to approval, while it may have tracked, you'll probably notice that it won't be approved in a few days/weeks time.

Vs the Swift? Biggest issue - 1.2kg vs 1.64kg, that's around 35% more weight. If you need something light and portable, I'd say the E series shouldn't be on your radar… As mentioned in the Swift thread, the Asus Vivobook Flip S14 is 1.5kg but has a touchscreen and one SODIMM slot.

Gee that's a horrible website. I cannot find any of the four models I'm keeping an eye on - apparently they only have one model of chromebook (maybe true) on the site, and sort function doesn't work.
It's a not a great advert for a computer company to not have a properly working website.

    • The Chromebook thing is probably accurate, there are not a lot of Chromebooks available in the Australian market for some reason.

      • Well that would explain why the Duet is went out of stock so quickly everywhere despite mediocre specs.
        Thanks for the reply.

    • +1

Yeah, the website drives me nuts. It's hard to navigate and they constantly list "optional" features for laptops that aren't actually available as an option.

  • Any idea what happens if you try and put a 32GB SODIMM in?

Apparently someone has tried it and now has 40GB RAM.

I have this exact laptop, bought for around $950 AUD 4 months ago. I highly recommend this model to anyone.

It's built like a tank, battery life is amazing, fast processor and can even game too! The only downside i have is that the screen could be a bit better , but all aside it's good. Build quality is on point , it's using aluminium front and back so no flex what's soever.

Funny enough I've had the Acer swift before I sold it off and bought this one. I mean it's all down to personal opinion but it is s*it, fan noise was ridiculous, battery lasted like 3 hours browsing and the quality was an absolute Trainwreck. I had dead pixels and the keyboard is super flexy, don't think it would last a year at least that's why I switched to this Lenovo mad machine.

Did you get a power supply with your laptop?

The page linked offers: "Add Lenovo 65W Standard AC Adapter (USB Type-C)- ANZ for $58.00 $43.50" as a tickbox when adding the laptop to the cart.

      • +6

You get one in the box. This ain't Apple!

      • Yea haha, as the guy before me said 😂. I actually called them up because of the same thing. They just want you to buy an extra charger. I do agree the website is pretty bad for a big company such as lenovo

  • +2

Seems CR doesnt support Coupon CYBER.

  • Without shopback this is a pretty lame deal. Been this price off and on for months.

  • I almost bought it but then saw the 250 nit screen, but a great price

  • I don't think it is possible to purchase from that website. I tried Firefox but it won't display the credit card details frame. I tried Chrome but it won't even progress past the cart or allow logins.

    This is one unfriendly website.

I finally got through calling 1300 557 073 and ordered, was fairly painless over the phone. If you place the item you want into a shopping cart - then on the right hand side under the Estimated Total there is a link "SHOW CART ID" and if you click that it reveals a number you can tell the sales agent to complete the purchase. They'll have your shipping details if you've entered them.

  • I have absolutely no need for this since I bought a Ideapad S540 a couple of months back.

But still thinking about buying one anyway 🌝

  • can't customize ?

  • Great, got it for office work

Linking ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 (AMD) Platform Specifications (PDF) should you want to perform some upgrades yourself to this laptop.

    • Looks like it can be upgraded to 32gb RAM. 8GB soldered plus add up to 24GB in the spare RAM socket.
      From the linked pdf above…

      Chipset
      Memory
AMD SoC (System on Chip) platform
      20GB or 24GB max / 3200MHz DDR4, dual-channel capable
4GB or 8GB memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket

      • +1

See my earlier comment: somebody successfully tried putting in a 32GB RAM module - so I've ordered one and will give it a go, too.

        • 40GB of total RAM would be heaps.
I'm looking for durable not too heavy laptops with long battery life for my twins' year 11 and 12 school years.
Was looking at the Lenovo Flex 5 but for $829 it was just an i3 processor and 8GB soldered RAM with no spare RAM slot. The touchscreen of the Flex is it's advantage over an E14 but I prefer to be able to add more RAM.

  • "Verdict

Lenovo made a mistake with the ThinkPad E14 Gen 1: Downgrade the memory to single-channel for a thinner chassis. The Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 corrects this mistake. At the same time, if offers the best performance of any E ThinkPad until now, thanks to AMD Ryzen 4000.

With that in mind, the ThinkPad E series of course remains a budget-oriented laptop series. This explains the relatively dark and color-weak display, the missing microSD slot and the cheapened port selection. ThinkPads of the L and T series have advantages here, and the same goes for the available business features. Also, the ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 does heat up around the palmrest under load, and the materials used here make the chassis heavy and the battery life could be better.

If you are willing to lower your expectations for the screen and port selection, the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 can still be attractive. The very good input devices, compact chassis and quiet fan are all desirable attributes. The E14 AMD is pretty upgradable as well, and with AMD Renoir it has a great price-to-performance ratio. We can recommend the ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 for more price-sensitive customers."
