Looks like a great budget laptop - 1.2kg would be good for those needing to get a laptop for school kids on a budget

  • Great price!

But why no touchscreen deals at all? :(

    • +13

Touchscreens make laptops heavier, more expensive and less reliable for almost zero practical benefit. Get a tablet or wacom device if you want to do digital art or drawing imo

      • +1

I'd say touchscreens has its use but only if the keyboard can be removed so you use them like a tablet (i.e. surface pro series and some others). But otherwise yea kinda weird using touch screen with keyboard dangling

Pretty good price, and surprisingly, Officeworks actually keeps same model (https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/acer-14-sw…) for those that want to price beat (OW stock check: https://ow.c0r3.xyz/result.php?product=ACSF31442R&state=ALL&…).

    • Oh? Does Officeworks pricematch Amazon(AU)?

      • +1

It should, as it meets its price beat terms and conditions. I've had Amazon listings price beaten by OW before, but not more than $100.

If you need to look at a thorough review of this laptop please refer to:

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Swift-3-SF314-42-in-Revie…

    • That review shows it to be a pretty decent laptop, especially for this bargain price.

Perfect cheap laptop for kids needing one for school as it has great battery life.

RAM soldered onto motherboard (no vacant RAM slots) for those wondering

  • +3

Soldered RAM is a bit of a dissapointment :( I forsee 8GB being limiting soon

  • typical acer issues

substandard screen and non upgradeable memory and it has barrel power and gen2 type c power

otherwise not much out there as far as ryzen for $700

  • Can you connect 2 seperate monitors to this laptop?

    • +1

Yes, it has a HDMI and Type C(Display Port out) ports.

  • I am confused, what is the weight as Amazon is showing 2.3kg

    Item Weight 2.32 kg

    • i assume it would include the laptop, charger and accessories

it says 1.2kg in the description of this post and the amazon link

      • Yea I would assume it's shipping weight?

    • +1

Pleased refer to the review I posted before. It says 1.2kg.

  • Any budget kids laptop with touchscreen?

    • Flex 5 Chromebook $499 on sale

      • Chromebook seriously wouldn't consider. Neither here nor there.

    • Vivobook 14 Flip is on special at Amazon for $769, Ryzen 3 4300U, 8GB (upgradeable) 128GB SSD. Unfortunately 1.5kg, so 300g heavier :-/

    • +2

The 4300U is faster than the previous generation R5 3500U.The Lenovo has a TN panel vs IPS. The Lenovo is not covered by Au warranty.

  • +4

I think the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip is a better deal for the extra $70.
Touch screen, one SODIMM slot so you're not stuck with 8GB RAM

  • Does anyone know how a processor like this would handle playing older (say 10+ year old) games?

I wouldn't mind a bit of CS:GO, but other than that, I'd probably be playing games like AoEII HD, maybe a version of the Sims. Should it handle those sort of games OK?

  • +2

Officeworks price beat these at $664.05 and had stock to collect immediately

  • Ordered from Officeworks $664.05 delivery tomorrow.

  • +1

Is this processor faster than i3 10th gen thanks
