Phone Data Condom - USB 3.0 Charge-Only Data Blocker US$0.02 (~A$0.03) Delivered @ Fasttech

550

Heavily discounted USB data blocker. May sell out fast given the low price. Other options for postage available at a cost.

Details:

The USB 3.0 data blocker prevents accidental data exchange when your device is plugged into someone else’s computer or a public charging station which achieves this by blocking the data pins on any USB cable and allowing only power to flow through. This minimizes opportunities to steal your data or install malware on your mobile device.

Features:

  • Puts your device into charging mode - allows you to charge at high speed (up to 2.1A) from a computer USB socket or other USB charger.
  • Blocks data transfer in charging mode - your device will not go into 'data transfer' mode if connected to a computer, so you can use a computer just like a mains charger. This also prevents data hacking and any risk of viruses being loaded onto your device when charging from an unknown/public USB socket.
  • Malware block - Physically blocks 'data transfer' mode so there is no risk of data hacking / viruses when charging from an unknown USB socket.
  • Circuit protection - gives intelligent protection for current backflow
  • Compatible with Android and iOS devices
  • USB 3.0 connector backward works with USB 2.0, USB 1.0
  • 10-pin data serial port can be used for data debugging
This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2020

    "May sell out fast"… Iol.

If you pay people 50c per unit to take one, it'll go quickly.

    • Looks like they meant it!

Bought two so I can double-bag my device.

Great comment to read at the end of a busy, boring day!

      • +1

Sounds like your day was really really boring.

        • +4

Trust me, it was. I work from home full time now, on my own all day so extra boring.

  • I posted that comment in the listing as someone may buy lots to onsell as they cost a few cents each.

    • +1

Read onsell as Ansell, the rubber company that sells condoms.

    Site is ozbargained

    Edit: Fixed and ordered.

  • Brah you crashed the site.

Weren't devices like these made redundant once phones started prompting for whether to allow data transfer/trust the socket? If you're savvy enough to use one of these, you're probably savvy enough not to tap "Trust" when plugging into an unfamiliar USB charger.

    • Yep - This is totally unnecessary now (unless you have a phone older than 8 years or haven't updated your software in the past 8 years).

      • +1

There’s been numerous bypasses to that prompt via physical access exploiting flaws at a lower level unfortunately. They’re generally the kind of flaws hoarded by government agencies and the companies that sell to them so that device makers cannot fix them. Given that, I’d want to be verifying physically that this sort of device is what it says it is as well…

    • Why at 2 cents its so tempting even though part of me knows its gonna go into the landfill. U know what? Ill buy it for research purposes

    • I mean all this would do is not have the pins that connect data.

    • +4

      Physical beats software any day.

    • Yup . This will most probably also disable any type of fast charging - they usually require the data pins to communicate how much power they need.

    • +1

There's no guarantee that there isn't an exploit now or in the future that allows people to bypass that, so why not ditch the odds game and just make it physically impossible?

    • The gov has devices that can siphon your deets just being near it.

    • That makes two of us.

  • I was looking for some other condom

    3rd condom deal today…. impressive

  • If no one buys this and overwhelmed complaints received, would the government put them in a box next to public charging stations for people to take one for free?

    • Glory holes are never a good idea, even if you supply condiments

  • who the hell wears a condom? raw is much better!

  • nice ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • Like the name condom!!! Male socket… Female socket and now condom :) using the concepts correctly with devices lol

  • And its gone!

  • I'd use this if I were dating an Israeli spy.

    • How would you know?

  • Practicing safe charging.

  • +1

I didn't read the deal correctly and didn't realise it was in US currency!!
Cost me a full 11c Aus for 4 not the expected 8c.
    I feel so stupid 🤣

  • Remember boys, don’t discard the condom after each usage. Also works with WD-40 finally!

  • Guess the rest of us who missed out on this deal gotta raw dawggin' it

  • Instructions unclear, my friend is pregnant

  • I wonder why they even bothered using USB 3.0 connectors on this. If the purpose is to block the data lines entirely, then it should be functionally identical to a 2.0 port.

  • noob questions.
why r there so many pins out of the usb plug? is this a usb3.0 thing?
I thought just don't have the middle 2 data pins connected would work the same, so what do all the tiny components do?

    • if you mean "pairs" it's for faster transfer while remaining backwards compatible.
Extra pairs for data and extra pairs for power.

  • Finally, a condom that can be reused multiple times for ultimate savings!
    OzBargainers, rejoice!

  • Yipee. Arrived today :)

  • Mine arrived…all 10…kinda have regrets buying so many. I misread, and thought they block all writing to the USB device (when, in fact, they are a fancy thing that allows charging to the usb device only)…

  • Mine arrived today too. I was surprised how quick it was. I haven't tried one yet. I ordered 5.
