Anyone not buying this due to boycott China goods? I wonder

You really think this going to catch on? I can guarantee you those who buy Apple products won't do it.

In all seriousness however. Doing this boycott China made goods will only result in us hurting ourselves.
We boycott their products. They do the same to us. We ultimately lose billions of dollars in trade. And China just goes elsewhere for the goods they want to buy.

      • +1

Is actually the aim of the boycott. Long term this is a good thing, we've become too dependant on China's trade.

In general, every time an Aussie buys an imported product they're also accepting that countries standards and codes of conduct. If we buy a car from China built by imprisoned Uyghurs then we're agreeing that's an acceptable practice. If we buy Olive Oil from Greece produced in poor sanitary conditions then we're agreeing to lower our health standards.

Products are more expensive in this country because of our excellent regulations, every time we try to save a few dollars by purchasing imported items we chip away at our high standards. Over the decades I've watched our high quality Au made items fade away as the factories shut down because people go for inferior imported "bargains", now countries like China can bend us over a barrel at will.

Regardless if boycotts work or not it's still important that people stand up and fight for what they believe.

        • I'm all for buying Australian made. If we produce it at all.

Feel free to tell our farmers and our fisherman. That they may not be able to put food on the table because they won't make enough money year on year to payback the debt they incur running their business because we are no longer trading with China. Or the small wine makers who may have to shut up shop because we no longer trade with China and they just can't find a market for their product.

every time an Aussie buys an imported product they're also accepting that countries standards and codes of conduct.

Go stand at an Apple store and tell everyone that comes in to said store exactly this. See how many will listen and turn around and not go in to said store. Point I am making is there will always be those subset of people that just don't care where their stuff is made. Matter of fact tell them get an LG phone. It's made in Korea. Or a Samsung. Its made in Vietnam. See how many you can convince not to get an iPhone.

I'm in for a gradual weaning of our dependency on China but what some people here want is we stop buying China made in one go. Which is not going to happen.

Gradual weaning of dependency means we will have time find new markets for our exports. And we may have to start manufacturing things again like cars. How long you reckon we can get that going? Doubt 5 years will be enough. 10 to 20 would be more realistic.

  • this vs

    at $1245 with LOVEKEANU ?

with i7-1165G7, Windows 10 Pro and better looking than Lenovo's.

  • How would this compare to an L15? They both seem well species for my uni work

    • +1

      L15 is more like the original E585 / E595.
E15 Gen2 is quite different to the L15 where it is lighter and slimmer.

      L15 over E15 Gen2
      2x USB-C (E15 only has one)
2x SODIMM slot (E15 only has one soldered and one SODIMM slot)
1x 2.5" bay for SSD (E15 doesnt have one)
      Serviceable keyboard (E15 has built-in)
microSD card reader (E15 doesnt have one)

      • Wow thanks for the detailed response! Appreciate it mate

  • Is this sent within Australia and claimable on tax?

    • not sure where it is coming from but invoice shows GST

  • Does Lenovo have an equivalent spec machine with a proper screen?

  • Thanks OP, looks like a nice deal!

Random Q, any chance this can run Valorant or CSGO at 60+ fps for the occasional game sesh? Not after high intensive graphical games. Or do I still need to go with a heftier gaming laptop in order to run these two?

  • imma seeking ~600 for sibling school

  • Is there any way to pay extra and upgrade the Wireless to Intel AX201

    I need Intel AX201 11ax, 2x2 + BT5.1 instead of the problematic RTL8822CE 11ac, 2x2 + BT5.0

  • I bought this along with a mouse and carry case which was only an extra $40, pretty good value. Lenovo have some fairly priced accessories that can you can add to your cart before checkout.

The coupon didn't apply for me, so I had to go on their very assistive live chat, create an account and then they added the coupon for me.

The RRP says $2199 but that's obviously quite inflated. How much would you guys rate the real price of a laptop like this? I'd estimate around $1200-1500 or so, so its still a pretty good deal.

I'm mainly going to be using this for programming and general web surfing, so it should do the job.

I worry about people saying that the screen quality is poor, but it can't be that bad for a $1050 laptop - right?

They said 10-15 business days to process, and 3-5 business days for delivery. To me, that's an average of about 17 business days to arrive, which is about 3-4 weeks. That nearly put me off, but given that it's such a powerful machine, with a great price tag, one year on-site warranty and the opportunity to buy fairly priced accessories put me at ease with the delivery times. Just hope it arrives before NYE hopefully.

Anyone else have any good reviews about Lenovo ThinkPads? I used to always associate them with teachers and businessmen, but thought I'd give it a try. I just want something that will last and is reliable, and heard Lenovo had a good reputation regarding those things.

    • Thinkpad T series were the Gold Standard when they were owned by IBM but the built quality has declined but still is one of the best in the market

Most people including myself buy the ThinkPad for the original IBM style keyboard as I have got used to it.

    • $2199 is Lenovo BS pricing, and you'd have to have rocks in your head to pay that.

Here's an example of what you could get for that sort of money.
