    • It's not needed. There's an option in the application to choose if you want to or not.

      • +1

Is this confirmed? I don't find it clear whether the quote above I pasted is referring to the offer of 0% Balance Transfer or the offer of the gift card. May be worth confirming with ANZ directly

        • the quote refers to whatever the footnote is next to

        • Right, a bit confusing then! My hope is that they would have promoted it a bit more clearly if they were only aiming for balance transfers.

      • +1

Yeah but the t&cs seem to indicate that you need to

    • +1

I suspect there is a mistake putting the '2' next to the "waive annual fee" bit of text. Footnote 1 is on the offer heading (which references $0 annual fee and $500 gift card) and says "Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $1,500 worth of eligible purchases within 3 months of approval to receive the bonus $500 Gift Card and waiver of the ANZ Rewards Platinum Annual Account Fee (“annual fee”) for the first year." so looks like you don't need to balance transfer to qualify. Footnote 2 is on text "(1.5% Balance Transfer Fee applies)" under the heading but also on text saying " (including annual fee, currently $0 for first year, $95 thereafter)". The content of footnote 2 seems to refer to how to get the 1.5% balance transfer fee, so I think they made a mistake in putting it on the annual fee bit … will wait to see what people report back from chat and take screenshots either way…

      • What a $1 balance transfer? There’s nothing mentioned about a minimum amount of balance transfer?

  • I just tried anz online chat, they didn't think a balance transfer is needed. He didn't know what the gift card will be either..

    • My chatter said it was. The Ts & Cs aren't very clear and it does not state you must avail the BT offer.

  • +4

Fear not EVERYONE! i'm chatting to them now "Hi ANZ, my friends from Ozbargain and i would like to ask u some questions"

    • Thanks boss. Let us know if the balance tfer is required to qualify!

      • +4

so i got off the phone with them
        you do the following
        1) sign up
        2) get approved
        3) spend 1500 under 3 months (eligible items). Funny thing was i went through a massive list of what i was planning to buy and the person had to respond with yes and no.
        phone = yes
        woolies food = yes
        petrol = yes
        car insurance = yes
        council rates = no
        car rego = no
pay off another credit card = no
        4) will get giftt card and 1 year free after 30 days of completing the goal.

        simple right?????
        …my application was denied :P
        good luck everyone else

        • Did they mention whether the Balance Transfer was required?

  • +2

Looks like you can check your credit score on their site too https://www.finder.com.au/credit-score

    • You can get $5 to do that too (at least you could in the past).

  • i am applying for the card and i have a question. application asks me total amount owing to other lenders? i have home loans with anz along with other banks should i include them in my total?

    • Please be aware , checked with both finder as well as ANZ- first year fee will only be waived if you going ahead with balance transfer option at the point of application. The application itself will let you apply without selecting balance transfer but annual fee credit won’t be applied later. Take your call

      • Can you just do $500 balance transfer even when you have $4K to pay on CC to ensure you dont missout on $500 gift card?

      • Oh crap, I didn't do this.

Edit: That's ok. Will still be ahead $405 if I get the gift card.

      • But this is what the terms say, nothing about balance transfer required?

        1. This offer applies only once per eligible customer. Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $1,500 worth of eligible purchases within 3 months of approval to receive the bonus $500 Gift Card and waiver of the ANZ Rewards Platinum Annual Account Fee (“annual fee”) for the first year.
        • Clause 2 of the T & C does mention balance transfer:

          1. Offer only available to new and approved credit card applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Platinum credit card account with the balance transfer.

However, this could mean either way depends on how the phrase "ANZ Rewards Platinum credit card account with the balance transfer" is interpreted. If the phrase simply refers to what the account is called (i.e. the name of the account), then balance transfer is probably not required, but if "with the balance transfer" means you need to do a balance transfer, then the balance transfer is required.

So it is unknown, as it is not entirely clear, but I would tend to think that the former interpretation would be more likely.

          • @slimdusty: $1 balance transfer then?

            • @macr0hard: I suppose that would work hey? I don't know much about how balance transfer works as I've never done that before.

            • +1

@macr0hard: minimum balance transfer is $100, fee on that is 1.5%. I did this because I fear if not I won't get the $500. still waiting for approval though.

              • @samwww: But there’s no minimum amount required anywhere in the t&c?

                • @macr0hard: @macr0hard I take this to mean that $100 is the smallest balance transfer ANZ (?or the other card being transferred from?) lets you do (and is doing a BT just in case it is required to waive the annual fee, but trying to make it as small as possible to minimise the 1.5% fee)

                • +1

@macr0hard: I found it at the link. Can't remember where I clicked through from.

It is basically $1.50 fee which I am willing to pay to avoid any dispute if they claim I can't get the $500. Still waiting for approval though.

                  https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/balance-transfe…

"ANZ accepts balance transfers of $100 or more from certain non- ANZ accounts (for example, a credit, charge or store card account)."

                  • @samwww: got it, thanks, I'll do the same then :) I've never done balance transfer before so not sure what the process is. Do I just pay the other bank's CC and leave $100 left on the balance, then apply for this CC? I imagine I'd have to leave enough time just in case this CC is rejected I still have time to pay the other bank $100 so I wont incur interest?

                    • @macr0hard: I'm not actually sure. I assume they just credit the amount to your other card. I am leaving my other card with a bit of balance on it until that happens. I pay off each month anyway so it is pretty simple assuming that is how it works.

Mine was approved and I just had to do an ID check online.

Hope it all works out for all of us!

      • +1

Anyway, probably too late for me to change now, since I applied without balance transfer.

Well, they're contradicting themselves. In their own summary of the card they say :

"Gift card received when you spend $1,500 on eligible purchases within 3 months from approval. Reverts to standard balance transfer rate, currently 20.24% p.a. T&Cs, eligibility criteria, fees and charges apply (including annual fee, currently $0 for first year, $95 thereafter)."

That says the current annual fee is $0.
It doesn't say in their own summary that the annual fee is $95 and it's waived.

I would already complain to ANZ when they charge more than $0 for annual fee in the first year.

In the T&Cs they mention annual fee is $95 but can be waived in the first year.
I will hold them to the fact they mentioned the annual fee is $0 in the first year, whether they want to waive that $0 is up to them.

        • Good points. I'm in the same boat. I'll come back to this thread if anz tries to screw me over.

        • The annual fee waiver was in the paperwork (offer) I got when the card was approved. Ditto the balance transfer offer. What isn't on the paperwork is the $500 gift card, but I've seen that happen before with other offers. I've seen no T&Cs stating balance transfer is a requirement prior to applying, so have all the screenshots I need if they claim otherwise.

  • Can you still apply even if the first 2,000 applicants has been reached?

  • Seem like a lot of "if" and "maybe"…. I will pass. Don't want to be hit with an annual fee.

    • $500 will never be easy. I am sure ozbargainers will work out best way to get that money.

  • -3

I really don't understand why these deals are so popular and how normalised card hopping is. People would trade the integrity of their credit score and potential upside in getting loans for investments for a mere $500 gift card or equivalent points. Baffling

    • +7

Well if you aren't buying a house any time soon (most of the population), then there isn't really a problem. $500 free money is very lucrative.

      • +1

It's free money for minimal effort. I've done this a few times in the past and since I always pay my credit cards on time, I've always had an excellent credit score. Never had issues with getting home loans in the past.

    • Mortgage market is that competitive. I haven't gone in with a 'will I get the loan' mentality in 10 years. Now its "you need to offer more for me to take a loan with you".

    • +1

My credit score with all 3 credit agencies is excellent and I get 2-3 cards a year. Pays for cheap flights to/from Sydney and Melbourne. And in this case, gives me $500.

    • do this 10x a year and the benefits start to become material…

      • I'm on my 5th card this year and my credit score is only average since beginning of the year. But I have no problem with getting CC approval.

  • Great deal for anyone looking to do a Balance Transfer & is generally ontop of their finances.

  • I applied for the previous offer which was 100k points with an annual fee.
This offer is definitely far better.

I called to cancel my previous application (As they were onyl up to the stage where they review my payslips)
    They cancelled it.

I then tried to apply for this deal, but was immediately rejected (Despite being pretty much approved for the previous cc, with teh same details). The operator advised it is because the system thinks I want this deal as well as teh previous deal.

He said he will hve a rep call me tomorrow. I guarantee you they're gonna fcuk this up and this will be a complete waste of time, with a potential (small if anything) hit to my credit rating.

    Anyone in a similar boat?

    • +8

      Son, you got greedy.

    • i done this same thing apply, cancel, re-apply for better deal and instant decline.
then i was declined for every card I tried for after that.
lesson learnt, was a little greedy.
been 4 months since last applying for a credit card, hoping ive served my time

  • Heheh I dont think they would let me join up again. I did a balance transfer of my maxed out card to ANZ and paid it off within the 15 month interest free period. I called up to then cancel it and I had to speak to three different people to cancel it because they saw I had just done a balance transfer and not used it. They kept trying to convince me to keep it and I just said nope, please close it.

    • I wouldn’t worry about it. The banks had their worst year in our lifetimes and ANZ still made nearly $4B profit. (profanity) them over as much as you can

      • Oh I dont feel bad about it at all. Banks have been screwing people since day dot, it was just great to get my own back!

  • Is there any cancellations charge say when i cancel after redeeming the gift cards. Lets sat in 6 months time?

    • Nope there are no cancellation charges. I can’t think of any credit card that I have signed up with that has it. Only the annual fee (if there is one) will not be refunded if you cancel after it has been charged.

  • I applied and got approved yesterday for the ANZ card from the 100,000 points and $45 AF

How do i get them to apply this instead??

    • Ring them

    • Howd you go? Im in same boat lol

  • Ah, good ole ANZ. I have an ANZ plat Qantas ..should still be good to go (Can't do this with Westpac for example).. Anyone seen a good Qantas points card lately? I got the recent Westpac black, but opted for the free non Qantas version. Also, anyone reapplied for the Kogan card inside 12 months?

  • Thanks OP this is a fantastic credit churn!!

  • +2

I called ANZ today to clarify the balance transfer clause, and the consultant didn't even know about this offer, put me on hold and checked with their campaign team. I was then advised to not apply for it this week and wait for their campaign team to update them on it. So I guess I'll check with them again next week.

    • "Finder Exclusive: $500 gift card, $0 first year annual fee, 0% balance transfer offer

The ANZ Rewards Platinum offers a 0% balance transfer for 20 months (with a 1.5% fee), a $500 gift card when you meet the spend requirement and a $0 first year annual fee ($95 thereafter) when you apply via Finder by 5 January 2021.

Eligibility criteria, T&Cs and fees and charges apply. ACL 385509"

This is from the Facebook advertisement.
It only mentiones it offers balance transfer, nothing says it's required.

I won't be paying any fee the first year. If fee is not refunded when charged, then I'll definitely use the screenshots to file a complaint.

      • yeah i got that screenshot too, but they might say "well it does say T&Cs apply and it's your responsibility to check the T&Cs", and unfortunately i think the T&Cs mention balance transferred is required, as mentioned by a few other OBs

        • The first part is only referring to footnote 1. I don't see any requirement in that footnote for balance transfer.
"Receive 0% p.a. for 20 months on balance transfers and $0 annual fee in the first year as well as a $500 Gift Card (1)"

"1. Eligible purchase means purchases which are eligible to earn Reward Points. Purchases which are not eligible to earn Reward Points are described in the ANZ Rewards - Rewards Program Terms and Conditions, for example interest charges, fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes and reversed or refunded transactions will not count towards your qualifying eligible purchases. The bonus $500 Gift Card will be delivered to you within 30 days of the eligible spend criteria being met. If you transfer or cancel your new ANZ Rewards Platinum credit card account before the bonus $500 Gift Card is received, you may become ineligible for this offer. If any repayments are overdue before bonus $500 Gift Card is processed to your account, you will be ineligible for this offer until any overdue Minimum Monthly Repayment and amounts shown on your statement as being immediately payable have been paid. ANZ will not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever resulting from a delay in the process of receiving and/or approving an application or activating the card. Applications for credit are subject to ANZ’s credit approval criteria. The annual fee will be waived in the first year provided eligibility criteria are met. After the first year, an annual fee of $95 applies. These fees are current as at Friday, 16 August 2019 and are subject to change. For all applicable fees & charges please see the ANZ Personal Banking Account Fees and Charges and ANZ Personal Banking General Fees and Charges."

Anyway, probably safer to do $100 balance transfer, to be sure

  • Anyone got approved yet?

    • I applied yesterday and got approval email this afternoon.

  • Anyone knows how soon affect closing CC the status is updated on credit report? I closed one almost a month ago and it still shows as open in the latest credit report generated today :(

    • it takes sweet time but usually bank takes your copy of account close letter if there's any discrepancy

      • But when applying for new CC they’d just look at your credit report to decide if they’re gonna approve/reject. Unlike home loan applications I don’t think they’re asking for account closure letters

        • previously they were asking which credit card you have with what limit so they asked me to provider the letter when it wasn't matching with what they can see from the credit file.

these days they just ask to enter total credit limit across all open credit card so not sure how they changed it.

  • Can you buy $1500 gift cards and qualify as eligible purchase ?

    • -2

This would be sweet, maybe contact anz live chat and see what they say?

I’m curious if you could buy $1,500 of products and then once you receive your $500 gift card you just get a full refund of the $1,500 product/s and cancel your anz card 🤭.

      • Yes you can buy gift cards and it qualifies.

just get a full refund of the $1,500

And don't be a douchebag like this. And it may result in consequences after breaking the terms.

    • +1

I did it before with ANZ Qantas FF black card.
I bought Wish giftcards (5% discounted) at that time and 7-11 fuel gift cards.

  • For those who applied, how long after you supplied salary information were you approved/disapproved?

    • 1 business day. Said it takes up to 2.

  • $500 Gift Card every year I spend $1500 every 3 months, I'd apply for that.

  • +1

rejected.. just because my payslip has this "salary sacrifice" which makes my net lower.. but that salary sacrifice goes straight into my bank acc at a higher amount cause of tax purposes.. idiots shouldnt be behind this application processes if they cant read the payslip properly!

    • i got rejected as well. guess they knew i only wanted their gift card and not their credit card. lol

    • +1

yeah they aren't very good at reading payslips. The lady on the phone was like there is no "net YTD pay" on your payslip. I was like there is gross YTD and gross YTD Tax, you can subtract the YTD Tax from gross YTD pay which will give you net YTD pay and she wasn't happy with that.

    • The dude asked me why I have two salaries from the same employer. Explained that I salary sacrifice. He was OK with that and approved it.

  • +5

Received an email from Finder, and they are still clarifying with ANZ if the balance transfer is indeed part of the requirement to qualify for the gift card.
So better do the $100 balance transfer if you want to apply now.

    • thanks for the update - please keep posted!

  • Has anyone that previously had the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures Credit card successfully got the offer? I talked to ANZ on the phone and was advised that I won’t be eligible to get this offer if I had travel rewards card. However on their offer page travel rewards card is not stated in the terms.

  • +1

Got a call from ANZ (twice) confirming my expenses and also asking why I am applying for this card. I didn’t lie and said I’m applying for the gift card so I’ll see whether I get it or not. They didn’t say anything about the BT being necessary for the waiver (I have no balance to transfer)

    • Didn’t get it 🤷‍♂️

      • +1

That's lame, instead of basing on your credit worthiness, they denied your application because you are not going to be a profitable customer.

  • +2

This is the worst credit card application ever, I sent 13 weeks payslips as requested. Now days later they call wanting 3 months of bank statements as my payslips don't have my full name on it! Only has initials and last name, as well as full address..

    • +3

I think they’re just making it hard on purpose. You’ll probably jump through their hoops and they’ll say declined without any reason anyway 🤷‍♀️

  • I still didn't get any response, applied last week Wednesday and provided payslips on Thursday.
I guess they are not interested after refinancing to ANZ with refinance bonus and not wanting credit card during that application.

    • +1

It said after submitting my application it would take 5-7 business days. Got my approval yesterday after 6 business days.

      • It did say within 7 business days, so I'll see if they respond by Monday/Tuesday.

(Problem with taking screenshots is that I sometimes don't read all the text anymore, assuming I can still read it later; definitely the case for anything that comes after submitting.)

  • +1

I applied last thurs with payslips and was approved the day after.
I called today to check that the free annual fee and $500 gift card would be applied and they said it would. No mention about balance transfer. Hope this helps someone.

    • What number did you call? Everytime I call I get COVID has closed our offices…

      • +1

I called 13 22 73 but that was after I was approved. I'm not sure if the application team has a direct number though.

        • Thanks - I was told the application team is not accepting inbound calls and that they had to email the application team to give me a call back =/.

  • I applied last Thursday Morning and was approved by the afternoon. Card arrived in the mail yesterday

  • ANZ are so stupid. I got called up asking whether my wages are getting paid by cash or cheque. I tell them I get paid directly into my bank account. They now want to see 3 months of bank statements to verify income. I'm not going to supply them more than I already have.

  • Just got approved this morning, applied 9 Dec.

  • Unexpectedly, i got an instant rejection to my credit card application. It is really weird.

  • I was finally approved this afternoon after another call from anz. I applied on the 9th Dec..

  • Approved this evening. Applied on Sunday and received call yesterday chasing more payslips and Notice of assesment. Happy with that. I currently hold Frequent Flyer Black but still took a hit for credit check even though I'm existing customer. Easy $500 :)
