Any eligibility criteria that prevents this deal if you've had an ANZ card previously?

    • +4

You don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months

      • Does ANZ travel rewards and frequent flyer platinum count?

        • Anz travel rewards - yes
          Frequent Flyer Platinum - no

          • @Drakesy: Sorry to ask again. I have a Qantas frequent flyer card visa platinum, can I apply?

          • +1

@Drakesy: Doesnt look like the Rewards Travel Adventure is specifically excluded? The ANZ Reward card is another standalone (base) card in the Reward range.

            • @ol mate: Tempted. Anyone knows how will the gift card be delivered, mail or email? I will leave Australia two months later. The Citibank credit card reward was delivered by email.

            • @ol mate: That'd be great if having held the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card in the last 12 months is exempt.

            • @ol mate:

Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria

I read this as all ANZ rewards cards

Please read the T's & C's guys it's not hard

              • +2

@Drakesy: I read that bolded part as referring to this card, otherwise why call out the black and platinum cards out separately?

Please look at the ANZ range of cards guys it's not that hard

        • the travel rewards card is a lemon now that they took free flights away - most cardholders including myself are cancelling, this would be a good way to recapture the outgoing members, would be stupid to not exclude this card imo.

          • +1

@plentifoo: Interestingly, the previous deal that I posted has the same blurb up front "Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria", but, includes this in the fine print.

"Offer not available where you currently hold an ANZ Rewards Classic, ANZ Rewards Platinum, ANZ Rewards Black or ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Reward Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Rewards credit cards within the previous 12 months"

Whereas, for this deal that sentence is NOT present.

To be honest, I applied and was approved for the previous deal before I noticed that the Rewards Travel Adventures card was included in the exclusion list (up until recently it was not mentioned in the fine print). Based on the more vague blurb up the front, I am definitely going to fight for my bonus if it is denied.

            • @endolphin: And fight we will …
Last time I had a discussion with a financial institution about fees, it did take a few weeks (a fee was charged, where it was initially mentioned there would not be any fees).
After insisting and escalating the complaint, I ended up getting $100 as "compensation for the troubles I had to go through" (that's on top of a refund of the fees).
              Never give up!

            • @endolphin: thanks for your help trying to make mud clear on exclusion t&cs. i've applied anyway, and if they approve it, then they're approving my eligibility for the bonus gift card as well. there's no way i'm signing up to yet another sh!tty ANZ credit card without something to show for it.

  • +1

You're eligible for this offer if you haven't held an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months.

  • +10

First 2000. So how do we know how many have applied?

    • +11

bleh. hate stupid requirements like that.

    • +6

Yeah might as well apply directly with ANZ and get 100,000 points (worth around $450). There's a deal posted a few days ago.

At least we know with certainty we'll get the points.

Here we have to hope that we belong to the 1st 2000 applicants. Meh

      • +1

But that has $95 fee with $50 credit. So total profit only $405 compared to this $500.

        • -1

          Or $0

      • …..

        Sheh.

  • +1

ANZ if you are going to post 'upgrade' cards in the mail, make it an upgrade to the best you have. We cut n bin anything less, whilst we ponder other offers and say goodbye to anz.

    • Somehow I don't think ANZ is going to be reading your comment.

Also small point but this is a third party offer not direct from ANZ.

  • It didnt mention if minimum income requirements exist, very weird…

  • +7

Spoke to finder and got told this article was last updated Oct.7, 2020 I think it would be highly unlikely you would still be in 1st 2,000 now. As others better to apply directly with ANZ and get 100,000 points (worth around $450)

    • +1

Would anz be able to tell if there has been 2000 applications already for this offer ?

      • They might and only ones would know (finder told me they cannot see numbers as done through ANZ website). Doubt though they will be giving you this information.

        • +1

I applied for the 100K rewards point and the application is in progress. Then I saw this and was thinking to switch to this one instead. Reached out to ANZ credit card team via email since they don't do phone support anymore. Let's see what they say.

          • +1
            • +1

@rvsure: ok, doesn't look like it's possible. I am on income verification stage with my current application. I asked the lady on the phone and she said she doesn't know anything about certain offer. She asked me to call 132273 instead. I have been finding 132273 pretty annoying to navigate through and to get to the right team. So I gave up after some time.

So I am going to withdraw my previous appliation and apply for this. Hopefully it wont affect my credit score and get me rejected.

    • +1

It shows at the top they have last updated yesterday 8 Dec 2020.

Available for a limited time and only via Finder, the ANZ Rewards Platinum offers a $500 gift card when you spend $1,500 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from approval.

  • +2

When you click the link to ANZ it states the offer you're applying for and makes no mention of the 2,000 cap. I think its reasonable to assume that once 2000 people have applied the link will simply divert to a page telling you the cap has been reached.

  • I just applied for this yesterday for the previous sale. Would I be eligible?

    • Cancel application and go again

  • +1

Oh no.. Yesterday, I got approved for the previous deal.

  • +1

fck me i just applied this last week

  • I don't see any reference to the first 2,000 applicants requirement, has it been removed?

  • Should I be getting this if I'm 20yo with an income of around $75,000 p/a and don't really need a credit card…? I wouldn't mind using the $500 towards a new phone or something.

I know I'll be able to pay back the balance but wondering if applying, spending the minimum amount to receive the GC, and then closing the card after will adversely affect my credit score?

    • -2

      No
      No

      • +1

? why not I would say yes @jr64, good income just don't use it for anything you wouldn't use it for without it. free $500 credit and make safe for any problems.

        • +2

          Yeah true. Should have been
          Yes
          No

    • +3

If you're responsible with money - i.e. don't actually increase your spending, just change how you spend it (change debit card to credit card) and pay your balance in full every single month, then yes.

If on honest self assessment that's not you, then don't get it.

  • +1

Just applied but was not approved. Very surprising as my income and assets should easily have met criteria. I can only think that the 2000 limit has been reached.

    • Have you recently applied for a credit card elsewhere?

      • Not in the past 2 months.

  • +9

Buy some anz shares and get the $500 back in dividends

      • +1

        Hi !

How much do I need to spend on anz shares to get $500 back?
        Thanks in advance

        • +1

About $20,000 at current share prices.

      • +1

Then pay tax on those dividends.

    • How many cards do you have hold now

    • +1

How much you owe on the house?

      • Zero. I own it outright. Well, there is a mortgage on it but it’s completely offset.

        • I suspect they don't consider it paid off if using offset.

    • +2

It’s the ozbargain account that ruled you out

    • +6

they prob realise that you actually won't use your credit card much or can easily pay it off— they want someone who has a hosue but makes only 50k a year so goes into debt, racks up interest debt because has trouble paying it off and then they can take the house. Banks.

    • -2

Annoying fact. If you invested that in Tesla 12 months ago it'd be worth 1.6 million now.

      • 20 20 vision in hindsight.

  • +1

"enjoy a $500 gift card when you spend $1,500 on eligible purchases"… so I have to spend $1,500 at specific stores or what?

    • +1

usually mean any purchases (shopping and bills). Does not include anything that's a cash advance (cash withdrawals, gambling etc)

    • From the ANZ offer website footnotes: Eligible purchase means purchases which are eligible to earn Reward Points. Purchases which are not eligible to earn Reward Points are described in the ANZ Rewards - Rewards Program Terms and Conditions, for example interest charges, fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes and reversed or refunded transactions will not count towards your qualifying eligible purchases.

  • Where in the Finders site or the ANZ application form does it say first 2000 applicants only?

    • It was originally 2000, looks like its been removed now and just says limited time.

  • +3

Applying for new credit affects your credit score even if you cancel the card. The reasoning is that you are considered a risk if you apply for credit alot despite closing the credit card. So only apply if you dont need a loan etc.

I found out the hard way as energy australia knocked back my application for a free tesla powerwall over a 7 year fixed energy plan due to my credit score. I checked my score as ive never missed a payment for any bill and saw all the credit cards ive applied for and cancelled after getting my rewards for signup.

    • How do you improve your score? Is there a certain time period the score goes up after cancelling credit cards? Eg cancel in Mar-20 and by Mar-21, it's one year so the score goes back up?

    • I go through about four a year pretty steadily, generally holding for ~11 months before cancelling.

Credit score is "excellent" from the three major AU providers.

      • Hey mate, do you think it's better to hold this card for a longer period of time whilst always paying the closing balance or to close it as soon as you get the gift card?

      • It doesn’t matter what your credit score is and whether or not it’s ‘Excellent’. They look at the number of credit enquiries and the amounts and a decision is made based on that.

        • The comment I was replying to mentions their score repeatedly, and so I addressed that. That said, in theory that sort of thing (number of enquiries, amounts of enquiries) is part of what goes into computing a score anyway - not that they seem to be very good systems.

Beyond that, I think you overestimate the amount of care and attention that lenders put into a credit card assessment. Lots of enquiries has never been a problem for me getting another card, or getting a home loan for that matter.

  • Can anyone explain '$1,500 on eligible purchases'? specific store? specific product?

    • Click on the link and go to ANZ website, scroll down to the T&C, you'll see :

Purchases which are not eligible to earn Reward Points are described in the ANZ Rewards - Rewards Program Terms and Conditions, for example interest charges, fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes and reversed or refunded transactions will not count towards your qualifying eligible purchases.

      • +1

Is there an exclusion for payments to government bodies- eg if I pay Rego does that count towards the 1.5k spend?

  • +2

Can you buy an iPhone on apple website and get a 500 gift card

  • So this offer is valid until 31st Jan?

    • Available for a limited time

Your guess is as good as mine!

  • Purchases which are not eligible to earn Reward Points are described in the ANZ Rewards - Rewards Program Terms and Conditions, for example interest charges, fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes and reversed or refunded transactions will not count towards your qualifying eligible purchases.

    • Thanks for the clarification… makes perfect sense.

    • I wonder if gift cards count as cash equivalent transactions.

      • They do not if buying from a retailer/superstore. ANZ will see EFTPOS transaction of the retailer. They won't know what you bought in that transaction.

      • ‘Cash Equivalent Transaction’ means transfers of funds
to or from other financial institutions, foreign exchange
        transactions, travellers cheque purchases, gambling
transactions, utility bills paid in person at a bank or Australia
Post or any bills paid using the Card in conjunction with
the BPAY scheme (if the billing merchant does not accept
credit card payment using the BPAY scheme) and any other
transaction that is treated as a cash advance.

  • Before you make a final submission, please bear in mind that the form that you have to fill is going to the very detail of your income and expenses.
I had been disapproved by them in the previous offer without any particular reason where in i have been offered the card from AMEX.
Don't ruin your credit report for $500 GC.

    • +7

I filled out like one box out of 20 and got approved. I think people are way too honest in these applications. I know I’ll pay it back before being charged interest. The application just becomes a box tick. I tell them what they want to hear.

      • Filled out the basics and needed to supply last 3 months payslips before the application can progress. Was your approval immediate?

        • +4

I got asked that, didn't supply anything, and a day and a half later got the approval email.

Last had a card with them about 2 or 3 years ago. Go figure

          • @Ironic fear:

didn't supply anything, and a day and a half later got the approval email.

            Lol nice one

    ANZ hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

    • +11

Let me guess, you've been rejected in the past.

  • Anyone know what the minimum income level to apply is? Looks like a $6k minimum credit line so I'm thinking it might be high

    • +1

$35k is the typical amount for one of these $6k limit Platinum cards, so not high at all.

  • sigh. i applied with the previous deal! darn it..

  • damn I just applied for the prev deal :(

  • +7

Just got off the phone with ANZ, seems you can do it without going to finder.

  • Thanks OP!. Applied.

  • +3

Sounds like u need to do a balance transfer to qualify, can anyone confirm?

    • +4

Offer only available to new and approved credit card applicants who apply for an ANZ Rewards Platinum credit card account with the balance transfer.

      Yep seems you are right

      • I can’t see that on the ANZ page after clicking through the Finder link

        1. This offer applies only once per eligible customer. Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $1,500 worth of eligible purchases within 3 months of approval to receive the bonus $500 Gift Card and waiver of the ANZ Rewards Platinum Annual Account Fee (“annual fee”) for the first year.
    • to qualify for what?
